Summary Polyisobutylene-based polyurethane networks have been synthesized by crosslinking polyisobutylene glycols with tri-phenylmethane triisocyanate and their gas permeability, water absorption, hydrolytic stability, and air oven aging characteristics was examined by ASTM methods. The preparation of the polyurethane sheets is described. The oxygen permeability of polyisobutylene-based polyurethanes is lower than that of vulcanized butyl rubber and their water absorption is negligible. The hydrolytic stability of these new polyurethanes is outstanding and their mechanical properties (tensile strength, modulus, elongation) remain practically unchanged after four days of exposure to 85° steam. Similarly, air aging for two days at 128° affects little mechanical properties.  相似文献

A naturally occurring 1.4 nm tobermorite and a synthetic jennite were characterized by 27Al and 29Si magic angle spinning nuclear magnetic resonance (MASNMR) spectroscopy and their cation exchange properties were measured. 27Al MASNMR spectroscopy revealed that both the 1.4 nm tobermorite and synthetic jennite contained trace quantities of Al in tetrahedral coordination. The 1.4 nm tobermorite also contained octahedrally coordinated Al probably due to the presence of an aluminum compound as a trace impurity. The 29Si MASNMR spectrum of 1.4 nm tobermorite exhibited a strong resonance at −85.2 ppm and a small shoulder at −80 ppm which are attributed to chain middle groups (Q2) and end groups (disilicates) respectively. 29Si MASNMR spectroscopy of the synthetic jennite showed a strong resonance at −85.7 ppm and a moderately strong resonance at −81.4 ppm which correspond to single chains and end groups respectively. Jennite showed a considerably larger quantity of end groups than the 1.4 nm tobermorite. The unsubstituted 1.4 nm tobermorite and synthetic jennite exhibited only small cation exchange capacities.  相似文献

A class of antennas that utilizes arrays of elementary antennas as reflecting surfaces has been investigated. An antenna of this type is here called a Reflectarray. It has been found that the Reflectarray combines much of the simplicity of the reflector-type antenna with the performance versatility of the array type. The reflecting surfaces employed in these antennas are characterized by a surface impedance that can be synthesized to produce a variety of radiation patterns. The equations of the surface impedance as a function of the desired reflected phase front is derived for the lossless case and methods of realizing this surface impedance are presented. Experimental results of a waveguide array type Reflectarray are given including pencil beam, broad beam and scanning modes. Data on the effects of specific phase errors are presented.  相似文献

Dispersive mixing is most efficiently accomplished with pure straining flow. Vorticity in the flow field inhibits this extending action; accordingly, the presence of shearing flow will decrease the overall effectiveness of dispersive mixing processes. A method to reduce the vorticity by inducing lubricated flow through development of a nonuniform distribution of the components of a polymer blend is described.  相似文献

In high seismic regions it has often been the practice to use oversized base slabs for the major nuclear power plant structures in order to prevent, or at least minimize, the amount of dynamic base slab uplift which will result from the overturning moments developed during seismic ground motion. Two major reasons have been expressed as to why dynamic base slab uplift should be minimized: (1) As nuclear power plants are normally designed for seismic loadings based upon linear analysis, and since soil-structure interaction becomes nonlinear when only a portion of the base slab is in contact with the soil, linear elastic analysis may be unacceptable if base slab uplift occurs (as the resultant design loads may be incorrect), and (2) substantial uplift could cause excessive toe pressures in the supporting soil and significant impact forces when the slab recontacts the soil.The primary purpose of this paper is to evaluate the importance of the nonlinear soil-structure interaction effects resulting from substantial base slab uplift occurring during a seismic excitation. The structure considered for this investigation consisted of the containment building and prestressed concrete reactor vessel (PCRV) for a typical HTGR plant. A simplified dynamic mathematical model was utilized consisting of a conventional lumped mass structure with soil-structure interaction accounted for by translational and rotational springs whose properties are determined by elastic half space theory. Three different site soil conditions (a rock site, a moderately stiff soil, and a soft soil site) and two levels of horizontal ground motion (0.3 and 0.5 g earthquakes) were considered.Based upon the parametric cases analyzed in this investigation, it may be concluded that linear analysis (which ignores the nonlinear soil-structure interaction effects of base slab uplift) can be used to conservatively estimate the important behavior of the base slab even under conditions of substantial base slab uplift. For all cases investigated here, linear analysis resulted in higher base overturning moments, greater toe pressures, and greater heel uplift distances than nonlinear analyses. It may also be concluded that the nonlinear effect of uplift does not result in any significant lengthening of the fundamental period of the structure. Also, except in the short period region (period less than half of the fundamental period) only negligible differences exist between in-structure response spectra based on linear analysis and those based on nonlinear analysis.Finally, it may be concluded that for sites in which soil-structure interaction is not significant, as for the rock site, the peak structural response (shears and moments) at all locations above the base mat are not significantly influenced by the nonlinear effects of base slab uplift. However, for the two soil sites the peak shears and moments are, in a few instances, significantly different between linear and nonlinear analyses. As a result, linear analysis may be used to determine all structural response for rock sites even when there is substantial base slab uplift. However, for soil sites, nonlinear analyses are necessary if substantial base slab uplift occurs.  相似文献

Summary Di- and triblock copolymers of polyisobutylene PIB and poly(ethylene glycol) PEG have been prepared and characterized. The syntheses involved the capping with tolylene 2,4-diisocyanate TDI various molecular weight -phenyl--(p-phenol) polyisobutylenes C6H5-PIB-C6H4OH and ,-di-(p-phenol)polyisobutylenes HOC6H4-PIB-C6H4OH, or commercially available mono- and di-hydroxyl-terminated PEGs. In this manner a series of PIB-b-PEG diblock copolymers, and PEG-b-PIB-b-PEG and PIB-b-PEG-b-PIB triblock copolymers have been obtained. The complete removal of the prepolymers from these amphiphilic sequential copolymers by conventional solvent extraction techniques could not be achieved because of the very high emulsifying action of the latters. In contrast, satisfactory separation was obtained by column chromatography using mixed (polar/nonpolar) eluents. 2 health problems of critical size and tragic impact are mental illness and mental retardation. "There are now about 800,000 such patients in this Nation's institutions—600,000 for mental illness and over 200,000 for mental retardation." A 3-fold attack is proposed: (a) Ascertain causes and eradicate them. (b) Strengthen underlying resources of knowledge and of skilled manpower. (c) Strengthen and improve facilities serving the mentally ill and mentally retarded. A national program for mental health is proposed which emphasizes comprehensive community mental health centers, improved care in state mental institutions, and expansion of research activities and increase in professional manpower. A differential diagnosis between 2 types of school phobia can be made on the basis of any 7 of 10 differential symptoms. The rapid treatment program for Type 1, the neurotic crisis type of school phobia, is presented in 6 steps which extend over a 3 day period. All 50 cases over the past 8 yr. responded to the treatment with a complete remission of school phobia symptoms. Follow-up study indicates no evidence of any outbreaks of substitute symptoms. VSe2?xSx solid solutions are prepared for 0 ? x ? 2. Two types of phases : IT VSe2 and V5S8 are successively obtained when x increases with a gradual change of the lattice parameters in the intermediate range 0.6 ? x ? 1.2. Three types of magnetic behaviors are observed : weak paramagnetism with charge density wave for x < 0.2, increased paramagnetism with no distortion for 0.2 ? x ? 1.2 and antiferromagnetism for x > 1.2. This magnetization is ascribed to V3+ ions intercalated in the Van Der Waals gap. Electron microprobe chemical analysis is consistent with this interpretation.  相似文献

We assessed the efficacy of a new thyroxine radioimmunoassay kit (Abott) in which polyethylene glycol is used to separate bound from free hormone. Mean serum thyroxine was 88 +/- 15 (+/-SD) microgram/liter for 96 normal persons. Results for hypothyroid and hyperthyroid persons were clearly separated from those for normal individuals. Women taking oral contraceptive preparations showed variable increases in their serum thyroxine values. The coefficient of variation ranged from 1 to 3% within assay and from 5.4 to 11% among different assays. Excellent parallelism was demonstrated between thyroxine values estimated by this method and those obtained either by competitive protein binding or by a separate radioimmunoassay for the hormone.  相似文献
