To begin investigation of the contribution of the superior colliculus to unrestrained navigation, the nature of behavioral representation by individual neurons was identified as rats performed a spatial memory task. Similar to what has been observed for hippocampus, many superior collicular cells showed elevated firing as animals traversed particular locations on the maze, and also during directional movement. However, when compared to hippocampal place fields, superior collicular location fields were found to be more broad and did not exhibit mnemonic properties. Organism-centered spatial coding was illustrated by other neurons that discharged preferentially during right or left turns made by the animal on the maze, or after lateralized sensory presentation of somatosensory, visual, or auditory stimuli. Nonspatial movement-related neurons increased or decreased firing when animals engaged in specific behaviors on the maze regardless of location or direction of movement. Manipulations of the visual environment showed that many, but not all, spatial cells were dependent on visual information. The majority of movement-related cells, however, did not require visual information to establish or maintain the correlates. Several superior collicular cells fired in response to multiple maze behaviors; in some of these cases a dissociation of visual sensitivity to one component of the behavioral correlate, but not the other, could be achieved for a single cell. This suggests that multiple modalities influence the activity of single neurons in superior colliculus of behaving rats. Similarly, several sensory-related cells showed dramatic increases in firing rate during the presentation of multisensory stimuli compared to the unimodal stimuli. These data reveal for the first time how previous findings of sensory/motor representation by the superior colliculus of restrained/anesthetized animals might be manifested in freely behaving rats performing a navigational task. Furthermore, the findings of both visually dependent and visually independent spatial coding suggest that superior colliculus may be involved in sending visual information for establishing spatial representations in efferent structures and for directing spatially-guided movements.  相似文献

The waveguide and material dispersion are investigated for various silica-based single-mode optical fibres with arbitrary refractive-index profiles. It is shown that in the case of the doubly clad optical fibre with an index difference between the core and the outer cladding ?1=1% and that between the inner cladding and the outer ?2=?1%, the diameter of the core 2a=7.2 ?m, and the thickness of the inner cladding t=0.3a, the total dispersion is reduced within ± 1 ps/km/nm over a wide spectral range of ?=1.35?1.67 ?m.  相似文献

Gamma-ray-induced graft copolymerization of butadiene with vinyl monomers onto PVC was attempted to improve the physical properties of PVC. The Izod impact strength was increased from 2 kg·cm/cm2 to more than 100 kg·cm/cm2 by grafting ca. 10% butadiene. But the tensile strength and melt flow were decreased by the grafting. The electron micrograph showed that the mass of polybutadiene in the graft copolymer had a convenient diameter (0.1–1 μ) for absorbing the impact energy. The weatherability of PVC grafted with butadiene was improved by cografting of butadiene with acrylates and methacrylates which had long side chains.  相似文献

The conventional methods (CM) of intraarterial (IA) chemotherapy for inflammatory breast cancer were catheterizations from superior epigastric and brachial artery under general anesthesia. Since 1997, we selected the Seldinger's methods (SM) for ten cases of the disease to control local effects and simplify the technique. Complications of the SM were slight, and side effects were equal to those with CM. The postoperative pathological findings of the SM showed the direct effects of chemotherapy to tumor cells (degenerative and necrotic changes) as compared with the embolism-like effects of CM. But the overall histological effects of chemotherapy by SM were almost equal to those for CM. The strong points of the SM were as follows: 1) More selective IA chemotherapy is available, 2) one can find the passage of the aim vessels and no trouble related to catheter, 3) general anesthesia is not necessary, and the techniques are simple, 4) the wounds are not remarkable. The disadvantages are as follows: 1) Patients must rest the day of IA chemotherapy, 2) in 20% of the procedures, one can not search the vessels, and 3) in 4 cases complications of stiffness of Mj or Mn pectral muscles were found. In future, we expect more effective results by dose escalation or combination chemotherapy.  相似文献

Abstract: In this study, the behavior and enterotoxin production by 10 different coagulase negative Staphylococcus (CNS) strains inoculated in cooked ham, reconstituted skimmed milk, and confectionery cream in the presence or absence of background microbiota have been investigated. After inoculation (103 CFU/g), foods were incubated at 25, 30, and 37 °C and aerobic mesophilic and CNS counts were carried out at 12, 24, 48, and 72 h. Staphylococcal enterotoxins (SE) detection was performed by SET-RPLA (Oxoid, Basingstoke, U.K.) and mini-Vidas® (bioMérieux, La Balme les Grottes, France). CNS counts increased during incubation and approached 106 to 107 CFU/g after 12 h at 37 °C in the 3 foods studied. At 25 °C, counts reached 106 to 107 CFU/g only after 24 to 48 h. The interference of background microbiota on CNS behavior was only observed when they grew in sliced cooked ham, which presented a high initial total count (105 CFU/g). Significantly higher counts of CNS isolated from raw cow's milk in comparison with food handlers isolates were found in reconstituted milk and confectionery cream. Although CNS strains were able to produce SEA, SEB, and SED in culture media, in foods, in the presence or absence of background microbiota S. chromogenes LE0598 was the only strain able to produce SEs. Despite the scarcity of reports on CNS involvement with foodborne disease outbreaks, the results found here support the CNS growth and SE production in foods even in the presence of background microbiota and may affect food safety.  相似文献

It is the object of this investigation to examine the effect of an axial force on the frequencies of linearly tapered beams with ends restrained elastically against rotation. The buckling of the system is also discussed. The fundamental eigenfrequencies of the beams with two types of linear tapers are obtained numerically by means of the Ritz method. Numerical results for various taper ratios are shown in graphs and tables against the axial forces and the degrees of end fixity.  相似文献
