The influence of tie-layer Melt Flow Index on the lap-shear strength of ultrasonic welds in oriented polypropylene (OPP) has been evaluated. The tie-layer Melt Flow Index was varied from 0.03 dg/min to 2600 dg/min; the highest lap-shear strength properties were obtained using tie-layers that had melt flow index values between 30 and 100 dg/min. When using low Melt Flow Index tie-layers, hot spot formation and concomitant changes in fusion zone and heat-affected-zone dimensions produced stress concentrations that promoted failure in oriented polypropylene material away from the bondline region. When very high Melt Flow Index (2600 dg/min) tie-layers were used, the mode of failure during lap-shear testing was a mix of cohesive, in oriented polypropylene, and adhesive failure. The molecular weight of material at the bondline was not markedly affected by the thermal cycle produced during ultrasonic welding. Only the flash ejected when using low Melt Flow Index tie-layers exhibited any evidence of degradation; it is suggested that the ejected flash may have been degraded because of a combination of thermal, cavitation, and thermo-oxidative processes. 相似文献

Summary Sedimentation experiments and X-ray photoelectron spectroscopy (XPS or ESCA) analyses have been used to study the effect of poly(methylmethacrylate) (PMMA) tacticity on aluminum oxide powder dispersion stability in a common solvent medium. The relative trends from sedimentation densities, and from surface analyses after solvent washing show that (PMMA) adsorption is greatest with isotactic polymer, where isotactic>atactic>syndiotactic adsorption. These results suggest that surface adsorption and hence dispersion stability can be influenced by polymer chain configuration as well as by chain conformation. 相似文献

Characteristics of a two-electrode DFB laser filter are studied both theoretically and experimentally. Using a matrix analysis of spontaneous emission, a continuous tuning range of 6.7 Å is achieved by changing both net field gains of the two electrodes. A total discontinuous tuning range of over 10 nm comprising alternating mode jumps and continuous tuning range of 4 Å are measured experimentally. The laser filter presents a FWHM bandwidth of 5 GHz which depends on the optical input power. In addition, it is demonstrated that a DFB laser filter can act as a frequency discriminator/photodetector, i.e., a narrow-band FM receiver, with a uniform bandwidth of 1.5 GHz. Using the two-electrode DFB laser for both transmitter and receiver, a two-channel FSK-WDM transmission system utilizing the discontinuous tuning range is reported. Choosing a standard speed for visual inspection is difficult using standard work measurement techniques. This paper uses a different approach, taking a model of human functioning in inspection and deriving an optimum speed of working so as to balance the cost of time against the cost of errors. Random search is used as the model and both self-paced and externally-paced conditions are derived for multiple fault types. In accord with the increasing concern about the global environmental issues, the absorption refrigeration heat-pump systems are currently being considered very promising and attractive. For the purpose of supporting the advanced R&D technology in this area, we have developed a novel correlation to represent the bubble-point pressures of LiBr H2O solutions. To identify possible sources of the observed differences in the career choices of women and men, three facets of career preferences were examined: the relative importance attributed to career-related aspects, the within-aspect preferences (i.e., desirable characteristics of occupations), and the structure of aspects derived from these within-aspect preferences. The career-related preferences of 2,000 young adults who were in the process of making their career decisions were analyzed. These career-related preferences were elicited during their dialogues with a computer-assisted career guidance system. The analyses revealed (a) only small gender differences in the relative importance of the aspects, (b) considerable gender differences in the within-aspect preferences, and (c) certain gender differences in the structure of aspects. High-Z metals constitute a particular challenge for large-scale ab initio electronic-structure calculations, as they require high resolution due to the presence of strongly localized states and require
many eigenstates to be computed due to the large number of electrons and need to accurately resolve the Fermi surface. Here,
we report recent findings on high-Z metals, using an efficient massively parallel planewave implementation on some of the largest computational architectures
currently available. We discuss the particular architectures employed and methodological advances required to harness them
effectively. We present a pair-correlation function for U, calculated using quantum molecular dynamics, and discuss relaxations
of Pu atoms in the vicinity of defects in aged and alloyed Pu. We find that the self-irradiation associated with aging has
a negligible effect on the compressibility of Pu relative to other factors such as alloying.

Summary Multicomponent intermacromolecular complexes have been prepared from some typical phenolic copolymers with a non-ionic polymer (e.g. PVP), and a polyelectrolyte (e.g. PAA). Some transition metal ions (e.g. Cu(II) and Ni (II)) have been incorporated in the complex through its unreacted co-ordinating groups. The formation of these complexes has been studied by several techniques, such as viscometry, conductometry, potentiometry, IR and UV spectrophotometry. It is possible to realize surface alloys by laser melting an electroless nickel layer containing chromium carbide particles predeposited on a mild steel substrate. By this way the surface alloy is expected to have not only a high nickel content but also an important chromium content in order to improve the corrosion resistance. The presence of chromium in solid solution results from the dissolution or melting of the carbide particles. Typical laser solidification microstructures are obtained. Dendrites consist of an austenitic Fe-Ni-Cr solid solution and interdendritic regions are constituted by an eutectic mixture containing the same austenitic solid solution and complex Fe, Ni, Cr carbides and phosphides. In comparison with a surface alloy obtained by laser melting of an electroless nickel layer without carbide particles, the corrosion resistance was slightly improved in saline aqueous solutions. The limited effect was due to the fact that the final chromium content in the present experimental conditions was not as high as that initially expected. 相似文献
