A four-way very long instruction word (VLIW), 312-MHz geometry processor with peripheral component interconnect/accelerated graphic port bus bridge was implemented in a 0.21-μm, 2.5-V, three-layer-metal CMOS process. We adopted (1) a software bypass mechanism, (2) single-instruction multiple-data stream instructions, (3) four sets of floating-point multiply add and accumulate execution units, (4) special condition code registers and a branch condition generator for a clipping operation, and (5) automatic clock delay tuning methodology. As a result of these features, we achieved a performance of 2.5 GFLOPS and 6.5 million polygons per second for a three-dimensional geometry processor, which is the highest published performance as a single geometry processor. High yield of cell, lipid, and docosahexaenoic acid (DHA) from thraustochytrid strain 12B were achieved without the use of a complex medium and at low NaCl concentration which is detrimental to avoid unnecessary corrosion of steel tank equipment during cultivation. Culture medium that contained only 0.1% NaCl and 1% MgSO4 in an organic base solution containing 8% glucose, 1% yeast extract, and 1% peptone, referred here as NM medium, was found to be as good as or superior to the culture medium prepared from 50%(v/v) seawater with percentage lipid/dry cell weight (DCW) of 66.4%(w/w) and DHA yield up to 43.95 mg/g DCW for the thraustochytrid strain 12B. The NM medium was also applicable to the prominently high DHA-accumulating Schizochytrium limacinum SR21, and therefore this medium could probably be used for other thraustochytrid and other types of microbial strains as well. 相似文献

This paper presents a new methodology for the inverse analysis of time-dependent two-phase Stefan problems. The problem considered here is that of determining the time dependence of a phase-change interface at several observed temperatures. In our method, imaginary heat sources are arranged in an imaginary domain and then the phase-change interface is identified as the isothermal surface at the melting temperature by controlling the imaginary heat source intensities. Using delta-function imaginary heat sources and their corresponding Green functions, which are pre-calculated numerically, it is shown that the phase-change interface is determined non-iteratively at each time step. A macroazoinitiator (MAI) containing a poly(ethylene oxide) (PEO) block was used with a methyl methacrylate monomer to prepare polymer particles in ethanol/H2O solutions. The effects of the monomer/MAI ratio (RMI) and H2O content in the solutions on the molecular weight, particle diameters, and chemical structure of the resulting polymer particles were investigated. The reaction mixtures showed three kinds of states, which were milky colloid solutions, macrogels and/or precipitations, and clear solutions. The colloid solutions were obtained in the solutions with an H2O content of about 50–90 vol % and a RMI of 20–400. In the colloid solutions, core–shell nanospheres consisting of PEO shells and poly(methyl methacrylate) (PMMA) cores were predominantly obtained. In the specific conditions close to the area of gel and/or precipitation formation, particles connected about 0.5–5 μm in length were obtained. Multiblock copolymers nanospheres tended to be obtained with lower RMIs, and PMMA‐PEO‐PMMA tri‐bloc and/or PMMA‐PEO di‐block copolymer nanospheres were obtained with higher RMIs. The solubility of the monomer and the generated polymer in solutions may have affected the polymerization development and the state of the products. © 2008 Wiley Periodicals, Inc. A psychrotolerant bacterium, strain T-3 (identified as Psychrobacter piscatorii), that exhibited an extraordinarily high catalase activity was isolated from the drain pool of a plant that uses H(2)O(2) as a bleaching agent. Its cell extract exhibited a catalase activity (19,700 U·mg protein(-1)) that was higher than that of Micrococcus luteus used for industrial catalase production. Catalase was approximately 10% of the total proteins in the cell extract of the strain. The catalase (PktA) was purified homogeneously by only two purification steps, anion exchange and hydrophobic chromatographies. The purified catalase exhibited higher catalytic efficiency and higher sensitivity of activity at high temperatures than M. luteus catalase. The deduced amino acid sequence showed the highest homology with catalase of Psycrobacter cryohalolentis, a psychrotolelant bacterium obtained from Siberian permafrost. These findings suggest that the characteristics of the PktA molecule reflected the taxonomic relationship of the isolate as well as the environmental conditions (low temperatures and high concentrations of H(2)O(2)) under which the bacterium survives. Strain T-3 efficiently produces a catalase (PktA) at a higher rate than Exiguobacterium oxidotolerans, which produces a very strong activity of catalase (EktA) at a moderate rate, in order to adapt to high concentration of H(2)O(2). 相似文献

Successive reactive-ion etching and microphotoluminescence (PL) intensity mapping have been performed in order to investigate the sources of epitaxial growth-induced stacking faults (SFs) in thick 4H-SiC epilayers. Three kinds of SFs, i.e., 4SSFs, 3SSFs, and 2SSFs, have been identified in the samples. Two of these (3SSFs and 2SSFs) show similar nucleation behaviors, and their formation may be due to stress within the epitaxial layer. In contrast, 4SSFs nucleate at the epilayer–substrate interface and might be related to an unknown dislocation, which shows a rounded-shape etch pit in the substrate. 相似文献

Fine-grained silicon nitride ceramics were investigated mainly for their high-strain-rate plasticity. The preparation and densification of fine silicon nitride powder were reviewed. Commercial sub-micrometer powder was used as raw powder in the “as-received” state and then used after being ground and undergoing classification operation. Chemical vapor deposition and plasma processes were used for fabricating nanopowder because a further reduction in grain size caused by grinding had limitations. More recently, nanopowder has also been obtained by high-energy milling. This process in principle is the same as conventional planetary milling. For densification, primarily hot pressing was performed, although a similar process known as spark plasma sintering (SPS) has also recently been used. One of the advantages of SPS is its high heating rate. The high heating rate is advantageous because it reduces sintering time, achieving densification without grain growth. We prepared silicon nitride nanopowder by high-energy milling and then obtained nanoceramics by densifying the nanopowder by SPS. 相似文献

To estimate the risk factors for intellectual dysfunction and examine its prognosis in a community-residing (non-institutionalized) elderly population, a randomly selected sample of 1,473 elderly people aged 65 years and over living in S city, Osaka Prefecture, was studied in October 1992, and data were obtained from 1,383, a response rate of 93.9%. A cohort of 1,383 was followed for 42 months and follow-up was completed for 1,300 (94.0%). The main results were as follows: 1) The prevalence of intellectual dysfunction did not differ significantly between sexes, and there was an increasing prevalence of intellectual dysfunction with age in both sexes. The prevalence of severe intellectual dysfunction was found to increase highly at age 85 and over. 2) By univariate analysis, odds ratios for age older than 75 years, low Activities of Daily Living (ADL), urinary and fecal incontinence, and no participation in social activities were significantly higher than 1 in any level of mild, moderate, and severe intellectual dysfunction. In the multivariate analysis using logistic regression, age older than 75 years and urinary and fecal incontinence showed significant higher odds ratios than 1 for severe intellectual dysfunction, and low ADL and treatment for hypertension also showed significant higher odds ratios than 1 for moderate intellectual dysfunction. 3) From analysis using the Kaplan-Meier method, the cumulative survival rates decreased with a decline in intellectual functioning in both age groups of 65-74 and 75 years and older. 4) Application of the Cox proportional hazards model resulted in adjusted hazard ratio for severe intellectual dysfunction of 1.79 (95% confidence interval, 1.02-3.12), controlling for other factors such as sex, age, general health status, incontinence and social activities. 相似文献
