A numerical approach based on adjoint formulation of convection heat transfer is proposed to predict the change of heat transfer characteristics for arbitrary thermal and flow boundary perturbations. In order to obtain the adjoint system of the convection heat transfer problem, we formally linearize the governing equations by the perturbation method and then derive the adjoint system for the perturbation system. As a result, it is shown that the numerical solutions of the base and the adjoint problems enable us to predict the changes of heat transfer characteristics, such as the change of total heat transfer rate or the change of temperature at a specific location, when the thermal and flow boundary conditions are perturbed. We propose a numerical solution of an adjoint problem of forced convection heat transfer to evaluate the mean heat transfer characteristics under arbitrary thermal boundary conditions. Using the numerical solution of the adjoint problem under the Dirichlet condition, which can be computed by slightly modifying a conventional heat transfer code, we obtain an influence function of local surface temperature on total heat transfer. As a result, the total heat transfer for arbitrary surface temperature distributions can be calculated by the influence function. Similarly, using the numerical solution of the adjoint problem under the Neumann condition, we can also obtain an influence function of the local heat flux on the mean surface temperature. Experimental investigations were carried out on the characteristics of the thermal field of a wall plume ascending from a horizontal line heat source embedded on the low part of a vertical wall surface. For the stability analysis of the present wall plume field, a vibrating copper wire was set horizontally near the line heat source in the field and the wall plume field was disturbed by the vibrating wire. Some two-dimensional sinusoidal thermal disturbances were introduced into the wall plume field and the growth or diminution of the amplitude of temperature fluctuations by the artificial disturbance were measured in the wall plume field with a thermal probe. The response characteristics of the wall plume field to the disturbance frequency were also examined. Methane hydrates (MHs) have been recognized as an important material for use as a new energy resource. Recently, not only MHs, but also carbon dioxide hydrates (CO2-hydrates), have been attracting attention from the viewpoint of CO2 storage in the form of CO2-hydrates. It is essential, therefore, to investigate the mechanical behaviour of gas hydrate-bearing sediments in order to achieve safe MH extraction and to ensure the long-term stability of CO2-hydrate-storaged submarine sediments. In order to gain further knowledge of CO2-hydrate-bearing sediments, we carried out three kinds of laboratory experiments on synthetic CO2-hydrate-bearing sand specimens: (1) undrained triaxial compression tests with a constant strain rate, (2) undrained triaxial compression tests with a step-changed strain rate, and (3) dissociation tests on CO2-hydrate-bearing sand specimens using the thermal stimulation method.The main findings obtained from these three experiments are as follows: First, it was found that CO2-hydrate-bearing sand shows larger strength and larger positive dilatancy than water-saturated sand without CO2-hydrates under undrained conditions. Second, CO2-hydrate-bearing sand clearly exhibits strain rate dependency with an increase in hydrate saturation. It is interesting to note that hydrate saturation’s dependency on strength does not appear in cases where the strain rate is quite slow. Third, a drastic increase in pore pressure and extensive tensile strain are observed simultaneously during the dissociation of CO2-hydrates. The pore gas pressure of CO2, produced by the hydrate dissociation, can exceed the liquefied boundary of CO2-gas, and the increase in pore gas pressure can be limited by the liquefaction of CO2-gas.  相似文献

It is extremely important to have a good grasp of the acceptable limit of hepatectomy before operation because postoperative liver failure can take a fatal course; however, baseline data on the limit of hepatectomy have not been clearly defined. We therefore evaluated and compared the predicted remnant liver function obtained by computed tomography(CT) and technetium-99m diethylenetriamine penta-acetic acid-galactosyl human serum albumin (99mTc-GSA) liver scintigraphy in order to obtain precise data regarding remnant liver function before hepatectomy. We investigated 20 patients undergoing hepatectomy using the clearance rate of indocyanine green (KICG) as a parameter, and compared the predicted postoperative KICG obtained by CT and by transaxial single-photon emission tomographic (SPET) images acquired by 99mTc GSA liver scintigraphy before hepatectomy. In GSA studies, based on time-activity curves for the heart and liver, we compared HH15 (heart activity at 15 min divided by heart activity at 3 min), LHL15 (liver activity at 15 min divided by heart plus liver activity at 15 min) and KL (obtained from the time-activity curve for the liver) in 103 patients. In 58 patients without increased serum bilirubin, KL was compared with KICG. In four patients, occlusion of the right portal vein was performed with the aim of carrying out secondary hepatectomy, and changes in liver volume were compared between CT and 99mTc GSA liver scintigraphy. The correlation coefficient between the postoperative KICG predicted by CT and the actual postoperative KICG was rather poor, at r = 0.569 (P < 0.05); that between the postoperative KICG predicted by 99mTc GSA liver scintigraphy and the actual postoperative KICG was good, at r = 0.788 (P < 0.01); correlations between KL and HH15 and between KL and LHL15 in 103 patients were very good or good, at r = 0.906 (P < 0.001) and r = 0.807 (P < 0.001), respectively, and that between KL and KICG in 58 patients was very good, at r = 0.916 (P < 0.001). In all four cases of right portal vein occlusion, the remnant liver volume ratio was markedly increased after occlusion in GSA compared with CT, and the postoperative KICG predicted by GSA after occlusion was closer to the actual postoperative KICG than that predicted by CT. It is concluded that 99mTc GSA liver scintigraphy is useful for predicting remnant liver function before hepatectomy and for evaluating changes in regional liver function after occlusion of the portal vein unilaterally.  相似文献

A 52-year-old woman with visual loss of her left eye consulted a ophthalmology clinic. She was conducted left vitrectomy and administered corticosteroid under the diagnosis of uveitis of unknown cause. But her visual acuity was not improved. Although re-surgery was planned, pus retention was found in her left eye. After her left eye was resected, fever and general malaise appeared suddenly. Her chest X-ray film revealed diffuse micronodular opacities. Acid-fast bacilli were detected from her sputum and identified to be Mycobacterium tuberculosis. She was diagnosed miliary tuberculosis, and then antituberculous chemotherapy consisting of 4 drugs was started. Granulomatous inflammation destructing retina and numerous acid-fact bacilli were found in histologic examination of the resected eye. This case was thought to be miliary tuberculosis disseminated from intraocular tuberculosis. After 2 months of therapy, neurologic symptoms which might be caused by brain tuberucloma appeared and deteriorated rapidly. But by adding corticosteroid to antituberculous therapy, symptoms were diminished gradually.  相似文献

A polyclonal antibody against 2-amino-1-methyl-6-phenylimidazo[4,5-b]pyridine (PhIP)-DNA adducts was raised for their immunohistochemical demonstration in paraffin-embedded sections. Specificity of this antibody was confirmed by competitive ELISA. Positive signals were immunohistochemically detected in acetone-fixed but not in formalin- or ethanol-fixed sections from F344 rats treated by gavage with a single dose of PhIP at 37.5-300 mg/kg and killed at 1, 2, and 7 days thereafter. Dose-dependent positive staining was observed in almost all organs of both sexes, including the colon, prostate, and mammary gland but largely independent of the tumor response. Repair activity, judged by disappearance of adducts with time, differed according to the organ or cell type. One exception was hepatocytes, the liver incidentally being a nontarget organ. The results suggest that the generated antibody is applicable for detection of cells targeted by PhIP in paraffin-embedded sections and also for the investigation of the mechanisms of PhIP-carcinogenesis.  相似文献

The three-dimensional (3D) morphology of trabecular bone is frequently quantified using computer programs. However, there are no standardized implementations of morphology programs and many variations are possible. Even though programs may use the same basic method, results can be significantly different because of differences in implementation. Morphology data from different laboratories therefore may not be comparable. The method of directed secants, with parallel plate assumptions, is commonly used to quantify 3D morphology. We examined the effect of several variations in the implementation of this method on measurements of trabecular plate number (Tb.N), trabecular thickness, and trabecular spacing. Three-dimensional micromagnetic resonance images of 10 bovine trabecular bone specimens were analyzed using several variations of the directed secant method. An analysis of covariance with repeated measures suggested that variations in the algorithm used to count test line intersections, variations in the criteria used to classify a test coordinate as bone or marrow, and variations in the number of test grid rotations had significant effects on Tb.N (p < 0.0001). The largest difference in Tb.N (52%) was due to the method used to count test line intersections with the bone-marrow interface. Variations in the classification algorithm and variations in the number of test line grid rotations resulted in a 6% difference in Tb.N. The spacing of the test line grids did not affect Tb.N (p = 0.28), and all differences were independent of volume fraction (p = 0.67). These data show that there can be significant differences in trabecular bone morphology measurements due only to the method used for the measurements. To facilitate comparisons between laboratories, we have made validated computer programs to measure trabecular bone morphology available over the Internet.  相似文献

BACKGROUND: Left ventricular assist devices have been reported previously to reverse ventricular remodeling in patients with dilated cardiomyopathy. In patients with prolonged mechanical support, structural failure of the left ventricular assist device inflow valve can cause regurgitation into the left ventricle, which may affect adversely this process. METHODS: Left ventricular end-diastolic pressure-volume relation of hearts explanted from 8 patients with left ventricular assist device and 8 control subjects with idiopathic cardiomyopathy was determined ex vivo at the time of transplantation. RESULTS: Duration of mechanical support ranged from 210 to 276 days (mean +/- standard deviation = 283 +/- 76 days) in 3 patients with inflow valve regurgitation versus 100 to 155 days (132 +/- 22 days) in 5 patients without (p = 0.005). The end-diastolic pressure-volume relation of all hearts supported mechanically was shifted to the left toward normal controls. This effect was markedly attenuated in patients with inflow valve regurgitation. CONCLUSIONS: Mechanical assistance can cause reverse remodeling in patients with dilated cardiomyopathy as evidenced by the shift in the end-diastolic pressure-volume relation curve to the left. Inflow valve failure, associated with prolonged support, can attenuate changes in left ventricular structure and dimension. Ineffective pressure and volume unloading may explain these observations.  相似文献

Some studies have shown that locally applied basic fibroblast growth factor (FGF-2) enhances bone regeneration at a fracture site, while others have not been in agreement. We developed a new continuous FGF-2 delivery system designed to accelerate cytokine-induced new bone formation. A subperiosteal pocket was surgically formed in 36 eight-week-old male Wistar rats. The rats were administered 0, 1, 10, or 100 ng of FGF-2 contained in a collagen minipellet, mixed with allogeneic demineralized bone matrix in a dome-shaped Millipore filter and then placed into the pocket. New bone formation in the dome was evaluated at 2, 4, and 8 wks after placement. Soft x-ray radiographs disclosed an apparently larger radiopaque region in the 1-ng group at 4 wks compared with those in the other groups. Morphometrical analysis revealed that the new bone area in the 1-g group was significantly larger than that in the 0-g group (p<0.01). In the 100-ng FGF-2 group, new bone formation seemed suppressed. We concluded that continuous slow administration of a small amount of FGF-2 accelerates bone-derived osteogenic cytokine-induced new bone formation.  相似文献
