Vibration isolation using open or filled trenches   总被引:12,自引:0,他引:12  
The problem of structural isolation from ground transmitted vibrations by open or infilled trenches under conditions of plane strain is numerically studied. The soil medium is assumed to be linear elastic or viscoelastic, homogeneous and isotropic. Horizontally propagating Rayleigh waves or waves generated by the motion of a rigid foundation or by surface blasting are considered in this work. The formulation and solution of the problem is accomplished by the boundary element method in the frequency domain for harmonic disturbances or in conjunction with Laplace transform for transient disturbances. The proposed method, which requires a discretisation of only the trench perimeter, the soil-foundation interface and some portion of the free soil surface on either side of the trench appears to be better than either finite element or finite difference techniques. Some parametric studies are also conducted to assess the importance of the various geometrical, material and dynamic input parameters and provide useful guidelines to the design engineer.  相似文献

Performance evaluation of mathematical expression recognition systems is attempted. The proposed method assumes expressions (input as well as recognition output) are coded following MathML or TEX/LaTEX (which also gets converted into MathML) format. Since any MathML representation follows a tree structure, evaluation of performance has been modeled as a tree-matching problem. The tree corresponding to the expression generated by the recognizer is compared with the groundtruthed one by comparing the corresponding Euler strings. The changes required to convert the tree corresponding to the expression generated by the recognizer into the groundtruthed one are noted. The number of changes required to make such a conversion is basically the distance between the trees. This distance gives the performance measure for the system under testing. The proposed algorithm also pinpoints the positions of the changes in the output MathML file. Testing of the proposed evaluation method considers a set of example groundtruthed expressions and their corresponding recognized results produced by an expression recognition system.  相似文献

Anomaly Detection Using Real-Valued Negative Selection   总被引:23,自引:0,他引:23  
This paper describes a real-valued representation for the negative selection algorithm and its applications to anomaly detection. In many anomaly detection applications, only positive (normal) samples are available for training purpose. However, conventional classification algorithms need samples for all classes (e.g. normal and abnormal) during the training phase. This approach uses only normal samples to generate abnormal samples, which are used as input to a classification algorithm. This hybrid approach is compared against an anomaly detection technique that uses self-organizing maps to cluster the normal data sets (samples). Experiments are performed with different data sets and some results are reported.  相似文献

Student modelling is an important process for adaptive virtual learning environments. Student models include a range of information about the learners such as their domain competence, learning style or cognitive traits. To be able to adapt to the learners’ needs in an appropriate way, a reliable student model is necessary, but getting enough information about a learner is quite challenging. Therefore, mechanisms are needed to support the detection process of the required information. In this paper, we investigate the relationship between learning styles, in particular, those pertaining to the Felder–Silverman learning style model and working memory capacity, one of the cognitive traits included in the cognitive trait model. The identified relationship is derived from links between learning styles, cognitive styles, and working memory capacity which are based on studies from the literature. As a result, we demonstrate that learners with high working memory capacity tend to prefer a reflective, intuitive, and sequential learning style whereas learners with low working memory capacity tend to prefer an active, sensing, visual, and global learning style. This interaction can be used to improve the student model. Systems which are able to detect either only cognitive traits or only learning styles retrieve additional information through the identified relationship. Otherwise, for systems that already incorporate learning styles and cognitive traits, the interaction can be used to improve the detection process of both by including the additional information of a learning style into the detection process of cognitive traits and vice versa. Scale is a widely used notion in computer vision and image understanding that evolved in the form of scale-space theory where the key idea is to represent and analyze an image at various resolutions. Recently, we introduced a notion of local morphometric scale referred to as “tensor scale” using an ellipsoidal model that yields a unified representation of structure size, orientation and anisotropy. In the previous work, tensor scale was described using a 2-D algorithmic approach and a precise analytic definition was missing. Also, the application of tensor scale in 3-D using the previous framework is not practical due to high computational complexity. In this paper, an analytic definition of tensor scale is formulated for n-dimensional (n-D) images that captures local structure size, orientation and anisotropy. Also, an efficient computational solution in 2- and 3-D using several novel differential geometric approaches is presented and the accuracy of results is experimentally examined. Also, a matrix representation of tensor scale is derived facilitating several operations including tensor field smoothing to capture larger contextual knowledge. Finally, the applications of tensor scale in image filtering and n-linear interpolation are presented and the performance of their results is examined in comparison with respective state-of-art methods. Specifically, the performance of tensor scale based image filtering is compared with gradient and Weickert’s structure tensor based diffusive filtering algorithms. Also, the performance of tensor scale based n-linear interpolation is evaluated in comparison with standard n-linear and windowed-sinc interpolation methods.  相似文献

Nanocrystalline β-tricalcium phosphate (β-TCP) powder was synthesized using reverse micelle as a template system. Cyclohexane was used as the oil phase, aqueous solutions of calcium nitrate and phosphoric acid as the aqueous phase, and poly(oxyethylene)5 nonylphenol ether (NP-5) and/or poly(oxyethylene)12 nonylphenol ether (NP-12) as the surfactants. The powder were synthesized at a fixed Ca/P molar ratio of 1.5 at a pH of 10. The synthesized powder were calcined at 800°C to obtain monophasic β-TCP. Particle size, morphology, and surface area of the synthesized powder were dependent on the chemistry of the surfactant and composition of the microemulsion. The powder were characterized using a BET surface area analyzer, powder X-ray diffraction, dynamic light scattering technique, and transmission electron microscopy. TCP nanoparticles had a particle size between 32 and 135 nm, and a BET-specific average surface area between 57 and 103 m2/g with controlled morphology. The powder were consolidated and sintered at 1250°C in a 3 kW microwave furnace in the form of a compact disk. Human osteoprecursor cells (osteoblastic precursor cell line 1 [OPC1]) were used to assess the biocompatibility of TCP disks after 1, 5, and 11 days in culture using scanning electron microscopy, MTT assay, and alkaline phosphatase expressions. Disk samples were biocompatible and showed excellent OPC1 cell adhesion, growth, and proliferation. Biocompatible β-TCP nanopowder were synthesized with controlled particle size, morphology, and surface area using a reverse micelle-mediated template system.  相似文献

Analyzing the Structure and Evolution of Massive Telecom Graphs   总被引:2,自引:0,他引:2  
With the ever-growing competition in telecommunications markets, operators have to increasingly rely on business intelligence to offer the right incentives to their customers. Existing approaches for telecom business intelligence have almost solely focused on the individual behavior of customers. In this paper, we use the call detail records of a mobile operator to construct call graphs, that is, graphs induced by people calling each other. We determine the structural properties of these graphs and also introduce the Treasure-Hunt model to describe the shape of mobile call graphs. Moreover, we determine how the structure of these call graphs evolve over time. Finally, since short messaging service (SMS) is becoming a preferred mode of communication among many sections of the society, we study the properties of the SMS graph. Our analysis indicates several interesting similarities and differences between the SMS graph and the corresponding call graph. We believe that our analysis techniques can allow telecom operators to better understand the social behavior of their customers and potentially provide major insights for designing effective incentives.  相似文献

Aluminophosphate zeolite is an artificial material which shows strange hydrophilicity. We have been investigating the reason by quantum mechanics, and found that the hydrophilicity of this zeolite depended on the local geometric deformation, and speculated that the site-specific hydrophilicity might be explained by differences in the stiffness of the local deformation determined by the location with the pore structure. In order to test these ideas, we construct a reliable force field based on the new MS-Q approach developed by Demiralp, Cagin, and Goddard. Our force field well reproduces the experimental structure of VPI-5.  相似文献
