Distributive justice development and social class.

Two studies assessed distributive justice development in lower- and middle-class children attending social-class-integrated schools. In Exp I, 28 middle- and 28 lower-class (MC and LC) White children from kindergarten and Grade 3 were given the Distributive Justice Scale and a vocabulary test. Results show that regardless of grade, LC Ss lagged behind MC Ss in distributive justice development, even when vocabulary was controlled. In Exp II, 32 MC and 32 LC Black Ss from kindergarten and Grade 3 were given the same measures plus sociometric peer ratings. Results replicated those of Exp I. Malignant tumors of the small intestine

Primary malignant tumors of the small intestine are uncommon. The average annual incidence rate over a period of 30 years in Saskatchewan was 0.7 and 0.6 per 100,000 for male and females, respectively. The 209 patients who comprise the series represent 1.6% of the total number who had gastrointestinal cancers over the same period. The distribution of the tumors by site and histologic type is described. Both carcinoid and adenocarcinomatous tumors of the small intestine are associated with a high incidence of primary malignant neoplasms in other sites (17.0 and 20.3%, respectively). One patient with Peutz-Jeghers syndrome is of interest because of the malignant change which occurred in more than one of the small bowel polyps and because of consequent liver metastases. The reason for the poor prognosis in noncarcinoid small bowel malignant neoplasms is probably due to late diagnosis. The five-year disease-free survival in these tumors was 22.5%. Malignant carcinoids had a better overall five-year survival rate of 64%. For those confined to the bowel wall, the five-year survival rate was 73%, compared to 59% for those extending to nodes or metastasizing to distant organs.     

The assessment of anxiety by physiological behavioral measures.

There is little research to support the contention that clearly defined patterns of physiological-behavioral responses associated with anxiety arousal can be distinguished from other arousal patterns. Intercorrelations among physiological measures of anxiety obtained under either resting states or under stress are generally low. No studies have been reported in which several measures of behavior were obtained simultaneously with a variety of physiological measures under conditions likely to be fear arousing. The Skew in Clinical Psychology: Fact or Artifact?

The present author intends to examine in more detail the apparent disproportion in publication rates observed when clinical psychologists are contrasted with their experimental brethren (L. The relationship between GSR and speech disturbances in psychotherapy.

"… the relationship between points of emotional arousal or anxiety as defined by the GSR and the occurrence of speech disturbances in psychotherapy [was investigated]. Synchronized GSR and verbal recordings… provided the basic data." Speech disturbances were maximal at times coincident with GSR deflections and decreased in frequency on either side of GSR deflections. Additional validity is provided for both speech disturbances and the GSR as measures of momentary changes in anxiety level in psychotherapy. Off-eutectic composite solidification and properties in Al-Ni and Al-Co alloys

To investigate the range of coupled eutectic growth in Al-Co alloys from 1 to 4 wt% Co and Al-Ni alloys from 5 to 10 wt% Ni directional solidification, using rates from 0.8×10^–2 cm/sec to 10.6×10^–2 cm/sec, was employed. Both alloy systems exhibited coupled zones skewed towards the hypereutectic compositions. Fully eutectic structures were obtained in the ranges Al-1 wt% Co to Al-3 wt% Co and Al-5.7 wt% Ni to Al-9.2 wt% Ni.The off-eutectic alloys which exhibit a fully eutectic structure behave as reinforcing composite materials, with the tensile strength and microhardness increasing as the volume fraction of the strengthening phase increases.
