Searching for moving targets in large environments is a challenging task that is relevant in several problem domains, such as capturing an invader in a camp, guarding security facilities, and searching for victims in large-scale search and rescue scenarios. The guaranteed search problem is to coordinate the search of a team of agents to guarantee the discovery of all targets. In this paper we present a self-contained solution to this problem in 2.5D real-world domains represented by digital elevation models (DEMs). We introduce hierarchical sampling on DEMs for selecting heuristically the close to minimal set of locations from which the entire surface of the DEM can be guarded. Locations are utilized to form a search graph on which search strategies for mobile agents are computed. For these strategies schedules are derived which include agent paths that are directly executable in the terrain. Presented experimental results demonstrate the performance of the method. The practical feasibility of our approach has been validated during a field experiment at the Gascola robot training site where teams of humans equipped with iPads successfully searched for adversarial and omniscient evaders. The field demonstration is the largest-scale implementation of a guaranteed search algorithm to date.  相似文献

Human hands sweat in different circumstances and the presence of sweat can alter the friction between the hand and contacting surface. It is, therefore, important to understand how hand moisture varies between people, during different activities and the effect of this on friction. In this study, a survey of fingertip moisture was done. Friction tests were then carried out to investigate the effect of moisture. Moisture was added to the surface of the finger, the finger was soaked in water, and water was added to the counter-surface; the friction of the contact was then measured. It was found that the friction increased, up until a certain level of moisture and then decreased. The increase in friction has previously been explained by viscous shearing, water absorption and capillary adhesion. The results from the experiments enabled the mechanisms to be investigated analytically. This study found that water absorption is the principle mechanism responsible for the increase in friction, followed by capillary adhesion, although it was not conclusively proved that this contributes significantly. Both these mechanisms increase friction by increasing the area of contact and therefore adhesion. Viscous shearing in the liquid bridges has negligible effect. There are, however, many limitations in the modelling that need further exploration.  相似文献

Despite the dangers associated with drink walking, limited research is currently available regarding the factors which influence individuals to engage in this risky behaviour. This study examined the influence of psychosocial factors upon individuals’ intentions to drink walk across four experimental scenarios (and a control condition). Specifically, a 2 × 2 repeated measures design was utilised in which all of the scenarios incorporated a risky pedestrian crossing situation (i.e., a pedestrian crossing against a red man signal) but differed according to the level of group identity (i.e., low/strangers and high/friends) and conformity (low and high). Individuals were assessed for their intentions to drink walk within each of these different scenarios. Undergraduate students (N = 151), aged 17–30 years, completed a questionnaire. Overall, most of the study's hypotheses were supported with individuals reporting the highest intentions to drink walk when in the presence of friends (i.e., high group identity) and their friends were said to be also crossing against the red man signal (i.e., high conformity). The findings may have significant implications for the design of countermeasures to reduce drink walking. For instance, the current findings would suggest that potentially effective strategies may be to promote resilience to peer influence as well as highlight the negative consequences associated with following the behaviour of other intoxicated pedestrians who are crossing against a red signal.  相似文献

We present the results of a non-destructive measuring method allowing us to characterize the evolution of solder joints during thermal cycling ageing tests. The method uses a high resolution optical probe to detect selectively pure Joule and Peltier thermal responses of the solder joint subject to a given current pulse. The results show the Peltier and Joule responses to be good indicators for the evaluation of the age and the degradation of solder joints.  相似文献

Prevalence of type 2 diabetes increased from 2.5% of the US population in 1990 to 10.5% in 2018. This creates a major public health problem, due to increases in long-term complications of diabetes, including neuropathy, retinopathy, nephropathy, skin ulcers, amputations, and atherosclerotic cardiovascular disease. In this review, we evaluated the scientific basis that supports the use of physiologic insulin resensitization. Insulin resistance is the primary cause of type 2 diabetes. Insulin resistance leads to increasing insulin secretion, leading to beta-cell exhaustion or burnout. This triggers a cascade leading to islet cell destruction and the long-term complications of type 2 diabetes. Concurrent with insulin resistance, the regular bursts of insulin from the pancreas become irregular. This has been treated by the precise administration of insulin more physiologically. There is consistent evidence that this treatment modality can reverse the diabetes-associated complications of neuropathy, diabetic ulcers, nephropathy, and retinopathy, and that it lowers HbA1c. In conclusion, physiologic insulin resensitization has a persuasive scientific basis, significant treatment potential, and likely cost benefits.  相似文献

Numerical models of various donor/attenuator systems utilized in gap tests were evaluated with the DYNA2D hydrocode. Three donor (pressed pentolite)/attenuator (PMMA) configurations were tested. Case I and Case 2 had a pentolite donor which was 2 cm × 2 cm right cylinder; the cell size was smaller in Case 1. Case 3 utilized a composite pentolite donor 2.07 cm long but having stepped diameters of one and two cm; the cell size was quite similar to that of Case 2. Peak (axial) pressure versus distance results from Case 1 were scaled and Compared to experimental data for both the NOL large scale gap test (LSGT) and the NSWC expanded large scale gap test (ELSGT). The comparison was found to be very good for the LSGT but less satisfactory for the ELSGT. Peak (axial) pressure versus distance results from Case 1 were the also compared to Case 2, a coarser zoned model similar to Case 1, and Case 3. This comparison showed that the composite donor produced peak (axial) pressures similar to those from the LSGT model. Normalized peak pressure versus radial distance and shock profiles were compared for the three cases and found to be quite similar. Additional normalized peak pressure versus radial distance and normalized pressure versus time information from Case 1 is plotted to show how the pentolite/PMMA rarefaction affects both the axial and radial pressure-time histories.  相似文献

It remains controversial whether exposure to environmental radiofrequency signals (RF) impacts cell status or response to cellular stress such as apoptosis or autophagy. We used two label-free techniques, cellular impedancemetry and Digital Holographic Microscopy (DHM), to assess the overall cellular response during RF exposure alone, or during co-exposure to RF and chemical treatments known to induce either apoptosis or autophagy. Two human cell lines (SH-SY5Y and HCT116) and two cultures of primary rat cortex cells (astrocytes and co-culture of neurons and glial cells) were exposed to RF using an 1800 MHz carrier wave modulated with various environmental signals (GSM: Global System for Mobile Communications, 2G signal), UMTS (Universal Mobile Telecommunications System, 3G signal), LTE (Long-Term Evolution, 4G signal, and Wi-Fi) or unmodulated RF (continuous wave, CW). The specific absorption rates (S.A.R.) used were 1.5 and 6 W/kg during DHM experiments and ranged from 5 to 24 W/kg during the recording of cellular impedance. Cells were continuously exposed for three to five consecutive days while the temporal phenotypic signature of cells behavior was recorded at constant temperature. Statistical analysis of the results does not indicate that RF-EMF exposure impacted the global behavior of healthy, apoptotic, or autophagic cells, even at S.A.R. levels higher than the guidelines, provided that the temperature was kept constant.  相似文献

A new gelcasting system based on aqueous-based alumina-poly(vinyl alcohol) (PVA) suspensions cross-linked by an organotitanate coupling agent has been developed. The chemorheological properties of this system exhibited a strong compositional dependence. A sol-gel phase diagram was established, which yielded the critical titanium concentration ([Ti]c) required for gelation at a given PVA volume fraction as well as the minimum PVA volume fraction (φminPVA= 0.0245) and titanium concentration ([Ti]min= 9.984 × 10-4 g of Ti/mL) below which gelation was not observed irrespective of solution composition. The gelation time of suspensions of constant PVA volume fraction (φsolnPVA) decreased with increased cross-linking agent concentration, temperature, and solids volume fraction. The steady-state viscosity and elastic modulus of polymer solutions (φsolnPVA= 0.05) of varying [Ti] were well described by the percolation model, giving scaling exponents of 0.84 and 1.79, respectively. The steady-state elastic modulus of gelcasting suspensions, which provided a measure of their handling strength in the as-gelled state, increased with increased solids volume fraction.  相似文献
