This paper describes the Transmogrifier-2 (TM-2), a second-generation multifield programmable gate array (FPGA) rapid-prototyping system. The largest version of the system will comprise 16 boards that each contain two Altera 10K50 FPGA's, four I-Cube interconnect chips, and up to 8 Mbytes of memory. The inter-FPGA routing architecture of the TM-2 uses a novel interconnect structure, a nonuniform partial crossbar, that provides a constant delay between any two FPGA's in the system. The TM-2 architecture is modular and scalable, meaning that systems of various sizes can be constructed from copies of the same board, while maintaining routability and the constant delay feature. Other features include a system-level programmable clock that allows single-cycle access to off-chip memory, and programmable clock waveforms with edge resolution of 10 ns. The response of P. falciparum to chloroquine and pyrimethamine-sulfadoxine in vivo and chloroquine and amodiaquine in vitro was investigated in parasitaemic school children from six locations. Mean parasite sensitivity to chloroquine at day 7 was 74% (range 61-97) with parasite clearance rates between 2-3 days and complete defervescence in 85% of febrile children. Sensitivity declined in the four sites followed up to day 14 to 45% (range 37-53). Parasites were significantly more sensitive to pyrimethamine/sulfadoxine at 5/6 sites (100% day 7) but 5% of subjects became parasitaemic by day 14. In vitro isolates were significantly less sensitive to chloroquine than to amodiaquine with a mean 99% effective concentration of 348 mumol/L compared to 6.44 mumol/L. Clearly the role of chloroquine as the primary therapy for uncomplicated P. falciparum malaria should be reconsidered especially in the light of increasing disease severity and resurgence. Amodiaquine may be suitable alternative with pyrimethamine/sulfadoxine as second line and for more severe malaria prior to referral. The cost of alternative antimalarials and the dynamic and deteriorating pattern of resistance are powerful arguments for more objective slide diagnosis to minimise drug pressure and a regular drug sensitivity surveillance system. We believe that the latter should concentrate on measuring clinical drug efficacy in symptomatic outpatients rather than in asymptomatic children while the former needs more pragmatic and economical strategies possibly centred on seasonality and risk. 相似文献

1. The construction of three-dimensional models of CYP2B isozymes from rat (CYP2B1), rabbit (CYP2B4) and man (CYP2B6), based on a multiple sequence alignment with CYP102, a unique eukaryotic-like bacterial P450 (in terms of possessing an NADPH-dependent FAD- and FMN-containing oxidoreductase redox partner) of known crystal structure, is reported. 2. The enzyme models described are shown to be consistent with experimental evidence from site-directed mutagenesis studies, antibody recognition sites and amino acid residues identified as being associated with redox partner interactions, together with the location of a key serine residue (Ser-128) likely to be involved in protein kinaseA-mediated phosphorylation. 3. A substantial number of known substrates and inhibitors of CYP2B isozymes are shown to fit the putative active sites of the enzyme models in agreement with their reported position of metabolism or mode of inhibition respectively. In particular, there is complementarity between the characteristic non-planar geometries of CYP2B substrates and key groups in the enzymes' active sites. 4. This study is an attempt to analyze the relationships between EEG and dermatoglyphic patterns (DP) in 6-8 years girls. EEG-mapping was carried out in 80 healthy girls with different types of DP in 6 frequency band: delta, theta, alpha-1, alpha-2, alpha-3 and beta. Certain connection of the palmar and finger patterns with the EEG characteristics was revealed. The most pronounced differences were observed between subgroups with prevalence (8 and more) or absence of whorls on their hands fingertips, and between groups with presence or absence of certain pattern (whorl, loop or vestige) on thenar/interdigital 1 area (Th/1). Significant (p<0.05) increase of spectral density in alpha-2 and alpha-3 bands in children with whorls on hand fingertips were revealed in the first case. EEG of children with Th/1 pattern differed from the group without such pattern by increased spectral density in alpha-2, alpha-3 and beta bands. Multilayer coatings have been produced using unbalanced magnetron physical vapour deposition in which discrete layers of TiN and ZrN were co-deposited. It has been shown that the multilayers exhibited two-fold periodicity having values of 13 and 2.8 nm. This periodicity, measured both by cross-sectional transmission electron microscopy and low-angle X-ray diffraction, has been precisely related to the process parameters used. Analysis has shown that a third, previously unreported, phase existed within the coating having a lattice parameter comparable to that of TiN and a well-defined orientation relationship with the primary phases. The existence of this phase has been explained in terms of variations in the stoichometry of the coating due to non-uniform metal to nitrogen deposition rates within the chamber. Textural studies revealed that preferred orientation existed in the coating; the degree of which was greater in the ZrN layers than the TiN layers. 相似文献

The seasonal variation in the nutrient composition of Enhydra fluctuans and Marsilea quadrifolia, two edible semi-aquatic plants, was studied in order to promote their consumption as green leafy vegetables. Both plants had a high crude protein content throughout all harvesting seasons. Enhydra fluctuans had a low ash content and was a good source of beta-carotene (3.7 to 4.2 mg/100 g on a fresh weight basis). Marsilea quadrifolia exhibited wide fluctuations between seasons and was not very promising in nutrient composition when compared to other commonly used green leafy vegetables. 相似文献

PURPOSE: A bladder injury model was developed using protamine sulfate (PS) and endotoxin lipopolysaccharide (LPS) administered intravesically to female Sprague-Dawley rats. MATERIALS AND METHODS: Experimental and control animals were catheterized and intravesically exposed to PS-LPS, PS, LPS, or phosphate buffered saline. After 4, 24 or 72 hours, rats were sacrificed. Urines and bladder tissues were then obtained. Bladder mucosal permeability was evaluated by measuring 14C-urea uptake 24 hours after injury. Repeated instillations of PS/LPS were also made in another group of rats over a period of 5 weeks to attempt to establish a more serious mucosal injury, possibly reflected by altered staining of the collagen IV component of the urinary basement membrane (UBM). RESULTS: Histological examination of the tissues indicated a maximal inflammatory response in the mucosa 4 hours after instillation of PS/LPS. Neutrophils and macrophages in close proximity to the UBM and intraepithelially could be demonstrated. Bladder permeability was significantly altered (26.9% 14C-urea uptake) in rats assayed 24 hours after the PS/LPS treatment, but not after exposure to PS or LPS alone (11.9 and 17.5%, respectively). Protease activity detected in urines from experimental, but not control, animals coincided with the appearance of inflammatory cells in the lamina propria. Inflammatory injury did not appear to alter the collagen IV staining of the UBM. CONCLUSIONS: This rat bladder injury model is useful for examining controversial issues regarding bladder wall structure-function alterations induced by inflammation and possibly important in the pathobiological mechanisms involved in some patients with interstitial cystitis. 相似文献
