Performance of Indoor Infrared Wireless CDMA Systems with Angle Diversity

Indoor infrared communication systems is one of the possible ways of offering data rates in excess of 100 Mbit/s without the need for wiring. Multiple users can share an infrared channel by code division-multiple access (CDMA) techniques. However, the CDMA system performance is limited by both background noise and co-channel interference. In this paper we study the use of angle diversity for mitigating the effects of the noise and interference. The system considered uses on-off shift keying modulation with multibeam transmitters and imaging receivers. The overall system performance for different diversity combining techniques is evaluated and compared to a system without diversity. Numerical results for a 2-user CDMA system indicate that signal to noise and interference ratio (SNIR) improvement (over systems with no diversity) of 5 dB is obtained for at least 50% of an ensemble of 10000 sample evaluations. The generalized selection combining (GSC)--a new diversity technique yet to be implemented for infrared systems--offers the best performance even with its reduced complexity.     

Hf-doped and NH/sub 3/-nitrided high-K gate dielectric thin film with least drain current degradation and flatband voltage shift

A novel technique to form high-K dielectric of HfSiON by doping base oxide with Hf and nitridation with NH/sub 3/, sequentially, is proposed. The HfSiON gate dielectric demonstrates excellent device performances such as only 10% degradation of saturation drain current and almost 45 times of magnitude reduction in gate leakage compared with conventional SiO/sub 2/ gate at the approximately same equivalent oxide thickness. Additionally, negligible flatband voltage shift is achieved with this technique. Time-dependent dielectric breakdown tests indicate that the lifetime of HfSiON is longer than 10 years at V/sub dd/=2 V.     

转炉溅渣护炉改质剂的开发研究

影响转炉溅渣护炉效果的关键因素是终渣成分的控制,采用改质剂对转炉终渣成分进行调整,降低渣中FeO含量和炉渣温度,提高MgO含量和炉渣熔点及粘度,有利于改善炉渣与炉衬的粘结效果,并提高溅渣层的耐蚀性能,缩短溅渣起孕时间,在一定程度上抑制炉渣中铁的氧化物与炉衬中石墨的反应.     

D-AKAP2, a novel protein kinase A anchoring protein with a putative RGS domain

Subcellular localization directed by specific A kinase anchoring proteins (AKAPs) is a mechanism for compartmentalization of cAMP-dependent protein kinase (PKA). Using a two-hybrid screen, a novel AKAP was isolated. Because it interacts with both the type I and type II regulatory subunits, it was defined as a dual specific AKAP or D-AKAP1. Here we report the cloning and characterization of another novel cDNA isolated from that screen. This new member of the D-AKAP family, D-AKAP2, also binds both types of regulatory subunits. A message of 5 kb pairs was detected for D-AKAP2 in all embryonic stages and in all adult tissues tested. In brain, skeletal muscle, kidney, and testis, a 10-kb mRNA was identified. In testis, several small mRNAs were observed. Therefore, D-AKAP2 represents a novel family of proteins. cDNA cloning from a mouse testis library identified the full length D-AKAP2. It is composed of 372 amino acids which includes the R binding fragment, residues 333-372, at its C-terminus. Based on coprecipitation assays, the R binding domain interacts with the N-terminal dimerization domain of RIalpha and RIIalpha. A putative RGS domain was identified near the N-terminal region of D-AKAP2. The presence of this domain raises the intriguing possibility that D-AKAP2 may interact with a Galpha protein thus providing a link between the signaling machinery at the plasma membrane and the downstream kinase.     

Filter matrix estimation in automated DNA sequencing

In four-color fluorescence-based automated DNA sequencing, a 4×4 filter matrix parameterizes the relationship between the dye-intensity signals of interest and the data collected by an optical imaging system. The filter matrix is important because the estimated DNA sequence is based on the dye intensities that can only be recovered via inversion of the matrix. Here, the authors present a calibration method for the estimation of the columns of this matrix, using data generated through a special experiment in which DNA samples are labeled with only one fluorescent dye at a time. Simulations and applications of the method to real data are provided, with promising results     

Identification of cysteine pairs within the amino-terminal 5% of apolipoprotein B essential for hepatic lipoprotein assembly and secretion

There is growing evidence that the amino-terminal globular domain of apolipoprotein B (apoB) is essential for lipoprotein particle formation in the hepatic endoplasmic reticulum. To identify the structural requirements for its function in lipoprotein assembly, cysteine (Cys) pairs required to form the seven disulfide bonds within the amino-terminal 21% of apoB were replaced in groups or individually by serine. Substitution of Cys pairs required for formation of disulfide bonds 1-3 or 4-7 (numbered from amino to carboxyl terminus) completely blocked the secretion of apoB28 in transfected HepG2 cells. To identify the specific disulfide bonds required for secretion, Cys pairs were mutated individually. Substitution of Cys pairs required for disulfide bonds 1, 3, 5, 6, or 7 had little or no impact on apoB28 secretion or buoyant density. In contrast, individual substitution of Cys pair 2 (amino acid residues 51 and 70) or 4 (218 and 234) severely inhibited apoB28 secretion and its capacity to undergo intracellular assembly with lipid. The same assembly and secretion defects were observed when these mutations were expressed as part of apoB50. These studies provide direct evidence that the ability of the internal lipophilic regions of apoB to engage in the recruitment and sequestration of lipid during translation is critically dependent upon a structural configuration contained within or affected by the amino-terminal 5% of the protein.

在心电地图仪中记录到的体表心电信号往往由于电磁的影响而引进工频干扰．基于体表心电信号中工频干扰的特点，作者提出了一种滤除工频干扰的方法，即就单独—胸导联信号通过提高频谱的分辨率来估计工频干扰的频率；基于最小均方误差准则来估计各导联信号中工频干扰的幅度和相位。文中还给出了该算法的流程图和滤波性能分析。模拟结果表明了该算法的有效性。应用该算法对心电地图仪中的工频干扰进行对消，取得了满意的结果。     

Financial strain, received support, anticipated support, and depressive symptoms in the People's Republic of China.

The purpose of this study is to examine the interface between financial strain, informal received economic support, informal anticipated financial support, and psychological distress in later life. Data provided by a large probability sample of older adults in the People's Republic of China reveal that the relationship between financial difficulty and psychological distress is stronger for older adults who receive more economic assistance. However, the results involving anticipated support are in the opposite direction. More specifically, the association between financial problems and psychological distress is lower for older adults who believe that others stand ready to help in the future should the need arise.
