Carbon xerogels are mesoporous materials obtained upon pyrolysis of the dried gels resulting from polycondensation of resorcinol and formaldehyde. Treatment with nitric acid under severe conditions introduces high amounts of oxygen containing functional groups onto the surface of the material, leading however to the collapse of its porous structure. The resulting material is then used to support 1 wt.% Pt, Ir and Ru monometallic catalysts by wet impregnation using organometallic precursors. The catalysts are characterized by N2 adsorption–desorption isotherms at 77 K, temperature programmed desorption coupled with mass spectrometry, scanning and transmission electron microscopy, and H2 chemisorption. The liquid-phase selective hydrogenation of cinnamaldehyde to cinnamyl alcohol is used in order to assess the catalytic performance of the prepared materials. Pt and Ru catalysts are initially very selective towards the hydrogenation of the olefinic double bond, while Ir is mostly selective towards the carbonyl group. After a thermal post-reduction treatment at 973 K, selectivity towards cinnamyl alcohol is significantly improved regardless of the metal nature. The Pt catalyst exhibits the best behavior, a complete shift in C=C to C=O hydrogenation being detected. The improvement in selectivity is rationalized in terms of both an increase in metal particle size and a modification in the surface chemistry of the catalyst after the post-reduction treatment.  相似文献

We investigated cell proliferation and cell death in the olfactory epithelium (OE) of mice from birth to maturity using bromodeoxyuridine and terminal deoxynucleotidyl transferase nick end labeling. We show that cell death events and proliferative activity diminish concomitantly with age in the OE. Thus, the age-dependent and coordinate diminution in cell proliferative activity and cell death events may serve to maintain the thickness of the OE as mice mature and age.  相似文献

Research exploring specific associations of markers of negative energy balance and Ca in postpartum Jersey cows with lactation performance is lacking. Our objectives were to evaluate the associations of total Ca concentration (tCa) measured at 1 through 3 d in milk (DIM) and free fatty acids (FFA), β-hydroxybutyrate (BHB), and glucose measured at 3 DIM with (1) the risk of multiparous Jersey cows being diagnosed with early-lactation diseases and culling, (2) milk production in the first 9 wk of lactation, and (3) the risk of pregnancy in the first 150 DIM. A cohort study was performed in 1 dairy herd in Texas. Multivariable Poisson regression models were built to evaluate the association of the analytes of interest with the risks of early-lactation diseases and culling in the first 60 DIM (i.e., binary outcomes). Linear mixed models were used to evaluate the association of the analytes of interest with milk production within the first 9 wk of lactation, and a Cox proportional hazard model was built to assess the risk of pregnancy within 150 DIM. A total of 380 cows were used in the final analyses. Total Ca measured at 1 through 3 DIM was not associated with the risk of metritis. Cows with increased FFA and BHB had an increased risk of being diagnosed with metritis and clinical mastitis, respectively. Increased concentrations of glucose and FFA and decreased tCa at 3 DIM were associated with an increased risk of culling. Reduced tCa concentrations at 1 DIM (≤1.84 mmol/L) and 2 DIM (≤2.04 mmol/L) were associated with increased milk production across the first 9 wk of lactation compared with tCa concentrations above those thresholds. Total Ca was not associated with milk production when assessed at 3 DIM, whereas increased FFA (≥0.37 mmol/L) and decreased glucose (≤2.96 mmol/L) at 3 DIM were associated with increased milk production. None of the metabolites measured were associated with the risk of pregnancy in the first 150 DIM. Our results demonstrate that tCa concentration assessed in the first 3 DIM show temporary associations with milk production and culling in multiparous Jersey cows. Although increased concentration of FFA assessed at 3 DIM was associated with greater milk yield, it was a detrimental factor for the risk of metritis. This study attempted to better elucidate the relationship of tCa, FFA, BHB, and glucose assessed in early postpartum with health and performance of Jersey cows. Based on this study, assessments performed at 3 DIM using tCa concentration ≤1.99 mmol/L for increased risk of early-lactation culling and FFA ≥0.43 mmol/L for increased risk of metritis could be used as starting points. More studies evaluating the dynamics of energy balance markers and tCa in postpartum Jersey cows using a greater number of herds are needed to better inform dairy consultants on critical levels for exacerbated postpartum negative energy balance and subclinical hypocalcemia for the Jersey breed.  相似文献

The effects of surgical repair versus non-repair on cell morphology and type X collagen expression were investigated using a rat model of Achilles tendon avulsion. The animals were divided into four groups. In Group 1, tendon was reattached to the original attachment site by suturing through a drill hole in the calcaneus; in Group II, tendon was not reattached and a drill hole was not made; in Group III, tendon was not reattached but a drill hole was made; and the animals in Group IV were sham operated. In Group I (tendon reattached), at 2 weeks postoperatively, many hypertrophic chondrocytes appeared at the reattachment site adjacent to bone and type X collagen was detected immunologically both in the cells and in the extracellular matrix. After 4 weeks, the cells at the original site of attachment were arranged in rows along the newly formed tendon fibers and were stained with type X collagen antibody. By contrast, when tendon was not reattached (Groups II and III), a gap between the original attachment site and the tendon stump was observed through the entire postoperative period. At 8 weeks, the original attachment site was covered by fibrocartilaginous tissue and tendon became attached to the calcaneal fibrocartilage area, which is proximal to the original attachment site. Type X collagen was detected in the cells which were adjacent to bone. In Group IV (sham operation), there were no changes in histology or type X collagen distribution, either at the attachment site or in tendon and bone, compared with the non-operated control rats. These results suggest that surgical reattachment of tendon to the original site is important to help reorganize cells during the repair process. Type X collagen was identified immunohistochemically in the cells adjacent to bone in all the groups, suggesting that it may play a role in maintaining distinct areas of calcified and non-calcified fibrocartilage.  相似文献

The purpose of this study was to contribute to the understanding of the effect of titanium ions released from a metallic substrate on the molecular structure of hydroxyapatite. The effects of pH, time of incubation and concentration of titanium ions were investigated. The solids were analysed by X-ray diffraction, Fourier transform infrared spectroscopy, Fourier transform Raman spectroscopy, energy dispersive X-ray analysis and thermogravimetric analysis. The results clearly indicate the presence of a titanium phosphate, Ti(HPO4)2·nH2O (n=1–3), which probably has a double layered structure. The formation of this compound is dependent on the titanium concentration and its crystallinity increases with the time of incubation.  相似文献

This work describes the utilization of a Pt UME in the study of the hydrogen evolution reaction in 0.5 M H2SO4. A non-linear fitting procedure was employed in order to analyze polarization curves obtained at several temperatures (25–75 °C). The results revealed that the traditionally accepted model described by a Volmer–Tafel route fails to fit the obtained experimental data. In this sense, a new model was proposed involving the Volmer–Heyrovsky mechanism, being the Heyrovsky reaction rate determining step. To achieve the best fit between experimental and calculated data, the kinetic equations had to be proposed with a small value of the transfer coefficient (β<0.2). This unusual value was associated with an activationless process, which can also justify the limiting kinetic current (not diffusional) observed. Trying to get further insight into this possibility, the polarization studies were also performed on a surface modified by underpotentially deposited copper. With a degree of coverage as high as 0.8, the only observed effect on the polarization curves was a shift towards minor current values. This shift can be completely justified by the blocking of surface area. A change in mechanism was not observed albeit the Cu UPD eliminated the pairs of neighbor active sites necessary to the Volmer–Tafel pathway.  相似文献

Female SJL mice are more susceptible than male mice to experimental autoimmune encephalomyelitis (EAE) induced by myelin basic protein (MBP)-specific T lymphocytes. In the present study, we examined mechanisms involved in this gender-related difference in disease susceptibility. MBP-specific T lymphocytes derived from spleens of males during the effector phase of adoptive EAE produced significantly higher levels of IL-10, an anti-inflammatory cytokine in EAE. A protective effect of testosterone was then shown. Females implanted with dihydrotestosterone pellets demonstrated a significantly less severe course of EAE as compared with females implanted with placebo pellets. Finally, MBP-specific T lymphocytes derived from dihydrotestosterone-implanted females produced significantly higher levels of IL-10 than those from placebo. Together these data indicate that testosterone exerts a protective effect in EAE that is mediated at least in part by enhanced production of IL-10 by autoantigen-specific T lymphocytes.  相似文献

The combined use of computers and telecommunications and the latest evolution in the field of Artificial Intelligence brought along new ways of contracting and of expressing will and declarations. The question is, how far we can go in considering computer intelligence and autonomy, how can we legally deal with a new form of electronic behaviour capable of autonomous action? In the field of contracting, through Intelligent Electronic Agents, there is an imperious need of analysing the question of expression of consent, and two main possibilities have been proposed: considering electronic devices as mere machines or tools, or considering electronic devices as legal persons. Another possibility that has been frequently mentioned consists in the application of the rules of agency to electronic transactions. Meanwhile, the question remains: would it possible, under a Civil Law framework, to apply the notions of “legal personhood” and “representation” to electronic agents? It is obvious that existing legal norms are not fit for such an endeavouring challenge. Yet, the virtual world exists and it requires a new but realistic legal approach on software agents, in order to enhance the use of electronic commerce in a global world.  相似文献

New carbon composite materials were prepared by pyrolysis of mixture of coffee wastes and red mud at 700 °C with the inorganic: organic ratios of 1.9 (CC-1.9) and 2.2 (CC-2.2). These adsorbents were used to remove reactive orange 16 (RO-16) and reactive red 120 (RR-120) textile dyes from aqueous solution. The CC-1.9 and CC-2.2 materials were characterized using Fourier transform infrared spectroscopy, Nitrogen adsorption/desorption curves, scanning electron Microscopy and X-ray diffraction. The kinetic of adsorption data was fitted by general order kinetic model. A three-parameter isotherm model, Liu isotherm model, gave the best fit of the equilibrium data (298 to 323 K). The maximum amounts of dyes removed at 323 K were 144.8 (CC-1.9) and 139.5 mg g?1 (CC-2.2) for RO-16 dye and 95.76 (CC-1.9) and 93.80 mg g?1 (CC-2.2) for RR-120 dye. Two simulated dyehouse effluents were used to investigate the application of the adsorbents for effluent treatment.  相似文献
