Methyl methacrylate (MMA), methoxy poly(ethylene glycol) monomaleate (MPEG), and acrylamidoglycolic acid (AGA) terpolymeric microgels (MGs) have been synthesized by free‐radical surfactant‐free emulsion polymerization. MPEG was synthesized from maleic anhydride and methoxy poly(ethylene glycol). The MGs were crosslinked with ethylene glycol dimethacrylate, and the chemical crosslinking was confirmed by Fourier transform infrared spectroscopy. 5‐Fluorouracil (5‐FU), a model anticancer drug, has been loaded into the MGs by in situ and adsorption methods. Empty as well as drug‐loaded MGs were then characterized by transmission electron microscopy (TEM), differential scanning calorimetry (DSC), and X‐ray diffraction (XRD). DSC and XRD studies indicated a molecular level dispersion of the drug in PMMA MGs during in situ loading. TEM images showed the formation of spherical MGs. In vitro release of 5‐FU from the crosslinked poly(MMA‐co‐AGA‐co‐MPEG) MGs were investigated at both pH 7.4 and 1.2 buffer medium that controlled release of the drug up to ~ 18 h. Both the encapsulation efficiency and the release patterns were dependent on the amount of crosslinking agent and the amount of drug loaded. © 2008 Wiley Periodicals, Inc. Cyclooxygenase-2 (COX-2) has been used as an excellent traceable biomarker, and exists maximally in Golgi apparatus (Cancer cells). Celecoxib (CCB) is a selective inhibitor for COX-2, and has been used as one of non-steroidal anti-inflammatory drug. Herein we report the conjugation of nile blue (NB) with CCB via a six-carbon linkage to form a fluorescence probe NB-C6-CCB for the detection of COX-2. NB-C6-CCB displays strong fluorescence with the emission peak centered at near-infrared wavelength (700 nm) in tumor cells or tumor tissues with high expression of COX-2. Importantly, NB-C6-CCB can discriminate cancer cells (MCF-7) fluorescence intensity from normal ones (COS-7) in the co-culture medium under confocal microscope. Subcellular localization of the NB-C6-CCB preferentially points to the Golgi apparatus and increases the fluorescent intensity. The competitive analysis (with CCB) and Native-PAGE analysis confirmed that NB-C6-CCB shows selective binding affinity towards COX-2 enzyme. Competitive analysis with CCB (flow cytometry assay) revealed the fluorescence intensity fluctuation due to pretreatment of CCB with different concentrations, indicating that the NB-C6-CCB is a precise or sensitive probe for the COX-2. Tumor tissue (depth: 500 µm), organs and mice imaging tests show excellent near-infrared visualization, specific localization and identification of tumors.  相似文献

This paper explores the flow of dusty fluid over a stretching rotating disk with thermal radiation. Further, the convective boundary condition is considered in this modeling. The described governing equations are reduced to ordinary differential equations by using apt similarity transformations and then they are numerically solved using Runge–Kutta–Fehlberg-45 scheme. To gain a clear understanding of the current boundary layer flow problem, the graphical results of the velocity and thermal profiles, shear stresses at the disk, and Nusselt number are drawn. Results reveal that the increase in the value of the porosity parameter reduces the velocity of both particle and fluid phases. The increase in the value of the Biot number improves the temperature gradient of both particle and fluid phases. The rise in the value of the radiation parameter advances the heat transference of both phases. The rise in the value of the Biot number improves the rate of heat transfer. Finally, increasing the value of the radiation parameter improves the rate of heat transfer.  相似文献

Many such tests have been proposed by researchers from time to time. We present an adequate set of tests, which every new finite element should pass. Correlations between the energy gap, optical electronegativity and bulk modulus are given for compound and ternary chalcopyrite semiconductors. Bulk modulus and electronic polarizability values have been evaluated from the optical electronegativity. In recent years, aluminium based cast composites have gained popularity in all the emerging fields of technology owing to their superior high stiffness and strength. The properties of cast composites are dictated largely by the solidification phenomenon, which needs to be well understood by foundry technologists. Information on the solidification studies of cast composites is scarce. However, the theoretical prediction of the solidification behaviour of cast composites by the use of commercially available finite element analysis (FEA) software has not yet been reported. The theoretical prediction can definitely yield good lot of information as regards the cooling rates of the cast composites saving enormous time in experimentation. In light of the above, the present investigation is aimed at the prediction of cooling curves of Al 6061–SiCp composites using finite element analysis. L-shaped composite castings were prepared using stir cast technique. The temperature of the composite during solidification was measured by K-type thermocouple, from which the cooling curves were constructed. Experiments were carried out over a range of particle weight percentage of 2–6 wt% in steps of 2 wt%. Comparison of the cooling curves of Al 6061–SiCp composite with the un-reinforced alloy reveals significant decrease in cooling rate with the addition of SiC particles. A two-dimensional transient heat transfer model was used in commercial finite element analysis software to predict the cooling curves of composite castings. The predicted cooling curves are compared with results obtained from experiments and found to be in good agreement.  相似文献

The pervaporation (PV) separation performance of ZSM‐5‐ and Na‐Y‐type zeolite‐filled sodium alginate (NaAlg) membranes were compared with those of pure NaAlg and semi‐interpenetrating polymer network (semi‐IPN) membranes of poly(vinyl alcohol) (PVA) with polyaniline (PANI) for the dehydration of acetonitrile. The PV separation characteristics of the zeolite‐filled membranes showed a dependence on the nature of the zeolites. The variation of the acidity function of the ZSM‐5 zeolite had an influence on the flux and selectivity of the membranes when compared to unfilled membranes. The crosslinked membranes were characterized by differential scanning calorimetry, X‐ray diffraction, scanning electron microscopy, and Fourier transform infrared spectroscopy. Increasing the PANI content of the semi‐IPN network increased the separation selectivity. Among the NaAlg membranes, the plain NaAlg membrane showed the highest selectivity of 414 at 30 mass % water in the feed mixture, whereas the Na‐Y‐ and ZSM‐5 (40)‐filled NaAlg membranes exhibited much lower values of selectivity, that is, 7.3 and 4.3, respectively for 30 mass % water in the feed. When the flux and selectivity data of ZSM‐5 (250)‐filled NaAlg membranes were compared with that of Na‐Y‐ or ZSM‐5 (40)‐filled NaAlg membranes, a noticeable increase in the selectivity for the ZSM‐5 (250)‐filled NaAlg membrane was observed, but a somewhat comparable flux was observed compared to the plain NaAlg membrane. For the first time, PANI was polymerized with PVA to yield a semi‐IPN. The total flux and water flux increased systematically, whereas the selectivity decreased greatly from 251.87 to 5.95 with increasing amounts of water in the feed. © 2005 Wiley Periodicals, Inc. Acrylamide was grafted onto acacia gum in different ratios (1 : 1, 1 : 3, and 1 : 5). The graft copolymers formed were characterized by FTIR, rheological measurements, and differential thermal analysis. Tablets were prepared from these polymers loaded with two antihypertensive drugs, viz., diltiazem hydrochloride and nifedipine. The in vitro release experiments were carried out in simulated gastric and intestinal conditions. The graft copolymer prepared in the ratio 1 : 5 of acacia gum : acrylamide matrix was found to be a suitable matrix to investigate the controlled release of diltiazem hydrochloride and nifedipine. The drug release continued up to 6 and 14 h, respectively, for diltiazem hydrochloride and nifedipine. The release mechanism was investigated by using the mathematical equations proposed by Higuchi, Hixson‐Crowell, and Kopcha. Based on the release kinetics data, a correlation was attempted between the erosion‐controlled release and the dissolution‐controlled release. © 2004 Wiley Periodicals, Inc.
