Low impact development (LID) strategies are being encouraged in many communities as an approach to reduce potential adverse impacts of development on receiving streams. Many questions exist regarding how well various LID strategies perform in different settings, just as similar questions have been raised regarding performance of traditional stormwater best management practices (BMPs). Whereas historical focus on BMP performance has been water quality concentrations or loads, characterization of volume reduction benefits for both conventional and LID practices is increasingly an objective of researchers and stormwater managers. More than a decade ago, Urban Water Resources Research Council (UWRRC) members worked to develop a set of standardized monitoring and reporting protocols for traditional BMPs and to establish a master database for the purpose of evaluating BMP performance and the factors affecting performance. This effort culminated in the International Stormwater BMP Database (www.bmpdatabase.org), which contains data for more than 360 BMPs and continues to operate as a clearinghouse for stormwater BMP data and performance analyses. During 2008–2009, the International Stormwater BMP Database project expanded to better integrate LID into the database and develop a set of metrics that can be used to characterize BMP performance with regard to surface runoff volume reduction. This paper provides a condensed overview and progress report on the LID-focused effort, including the following topics: (1)?monitoring guidance for LID at the overall site development level, (2)?an overview of recent changes to the International Stormwater BMP Database to better accommodate LID studies, (3)?a summary of LID studies currently included in the database, and (4)?a proposed approach for evaluating performance of LID studies with regard to reducing surface runoff volumes.  相似文献

In light of IASB??s statement to drop stewardship as a separate objective of financial accounting and the ongoing debate about increasing the disclosure of soft information, we investigate the economic consequences of publicly reported soft information from a stewardship perspective. In an LEN model we include market price as a performance measure and investigate whether the principal benefits from disclosing additional information. While the principal can only use contractible performance measures in the contract with the agent, capital market participants can only use disclosed information when pricing firm value. We find that the disclosure of information can decrease the principal??s expected net profit. This result follows from either a noisier or a less congruent market price as a consequence of disclosing additional information. Thus, we present a rationale for partial disclosure in the absence of proprietary costs or the uncertainty of information endowment.  相似文献

The relation between texture and microstructure and the macroscopic solidification direction has been investigated for an austenitic 316L stainless steel weld. The fusion zone has been characterised by EBSD. Texture development has been simulated by thermal Finite Element Analysis coupled with a simple model of preferential <100>‐oriented solidification following the solidification direction. The thermal part is validated by means of thermocouple measurements at several locations on the specimen. The predicted texture is in very good agreement with the measured one.  相似文献

The hollow clay brick is the typical building unit that is employed not only over the whole Greece but also in many other Mediterranean countries. Nevertheless, its design is completely empirical. In this study, the design of the hollow clay brick is analyzed by employing a finite element package. To carry out this analysis, the thermal conductivity of the solid clay is measured by the transient hot-wire technique. As a consequence of the analysis, an improvement of 24 % in the design of the hollow clay brick is proposed.  相似文献

Different approaches to study wetting and adhesion by applying density-functional theory (DFT) methods are highlighted. The ab initio thermodynamics method is used to demonstrate the link between the calculated work of separation and the work of adhesion and wetting angles from sessile-drop measurements. An approach to extend DFT calculations to the case of large-scale interfaces relevant for wetting systems is also discussed.  相似文献

This paper presents the results of an experimental study carried out on a porous, water-saturated limestone. First, a set of poroelastic parameters is obtained from a wide range of experiments (drained, undrained, pore pressure loading and unjacketed tests) conducted on the same sample at the same stress state. A “null” test, inspired from unsaturated soil testing, is added to confirm the previous results, in particular the value of the Biot coefficient. Then, the variation of the measured parameters between samples is investigated. Finally, the influence of the stress state is studied in the framework of semilinear poroelasticity. Several expressions are compared to model the evolution of the drained bulk modulus as a function of Terzaghi's effective stress.  相似文献

In this paper, we propose a robust wavelet domain method for noise filtering in medical images. The proposed method adapts itself to various types of image noise as well as to the preference of the medical expert; a single parameter can be used to balance the preservation of (expert-dependent) relevant details against the degree of noise reduction. The algorithm exploits generally valid knowledge about the correlation of significant image features across the resolution scales to perform a preliminary coefficient classification. This preliminary coefficient classification is used to empirically estimate the statistical distributions of the coefficients that represent useful image features on the one hand and mainly noise on the other. The adaptation to the spatial context in the image is achieved by using a wavelet domain indicator of the local spatial activity. The proposed method is of low complexity, both in its implementation and execution time. The results demonstrate its usefulness for noise suppression in medical ultrasound and magnetic resonance imaging. In these applications, the proposed method clearly outperforms single-resolution spatially adaptive algorithms, in terms of quantitative performance measures as well as in terms of visual quality of the images.  相似文献
