APROMORE: An advanced process model repository

Business process models are becoming available in large numbers due to their widespread use in many industrial applications such as enterprise and quality engineering projects. On the one hand, this raises a challenge as to their proper management: how can it be ensured that the proper process model is always available to the interested stakeholder? On the other hand, the richness of a large set of process models also offers opportunities, for example with respect to the re-use of existing model parts for new models. This paper describes the functionality and architecture of an advanced process model repository, named APROMORE. This tool brings together a rich set of features for the analysis, management and usage of large sets of process models, drawing from state-of-the art research in the field of process modeling. A prototype of the platform is presented in this paper, demonstrating its feasibility, as well as an outlook on the further development of APROMORE.     

Configurable multi-perspective business process models

A configurable process model provides a consolidated view of a family of business processes. It promotes the reuse of proven practices by providing analysts with a generic modeling artifact from which to derive individual process models. Unfortunately, the scope of existing notations for configurable process modeling is restricted, thus hindering their applicability. Specifically, these notations focus on capturing tasks and control-flow dependencies, neglecting equally important ingredients of business processes such as data and resources. This research fills this gap by proposing a configurable process modeling notation incorporating features for capturing resources, data and physical objects involved in the performance of tasks. The proposal has been implemented in a toolset that assists analysts during the configuration phase and guarantees the correctness of the resulting process models. The approach has been validated by means of a case study from the film industry.

Spoken-word audio collections cover many domains, including radio and television broadcasts, oral narratives, governmental proceedings, lectures, and telephone conversations. The collection, access, and preservation of such data is stimulated by political, economic, cultural, and educational needs. This paper outlines the major issues in the field, reviews the current state of technology, examines the rapidly changing policy issues relating to privacy and copyright, and presents issues relating to the collection and preservation of spoken audio content .     

PolyMorph: Increasing the Spelling Efficiency of P300 by Selection Matrix PolyMorphism and Sentence-Based Predictions

One application of the P300 brain electric signal is sentence spelling, which enables subjects who have lost control of their motor pathways to communicate by selecting characters in a matrix containing all alphabet symbols. This technology still suffers from both low communication/high error rates. A P300 speller, named PolyMorph, which jointly introduces the selection matrix polymorphism (reducing the matrix size by removing useless symbols) and sentence-based predictions (which forecast words on the basis of language statistics) is presented. This is accomplished by using a custom dynamic knowledge-base, tailored to the subject lexicon, and updated in real time with the selections of the subject. The effectiveness of the presented speller is measured in vivo and in silico. The results suggest that the use of PolyMorph increases the number of spelt characters per time unit and reduces the error rate.     

Life tables of Xylocoris flavipes (Hemiptera: Anthocoridae) feeding on Tribolium castaneum (Coleoptera: Tenebrionidae)

Effects of four constant temperatures (19°C, 21°C, 24°C, and 32°C) on the development and reproduction of Xylocoris flavipes (Reuter) (Heteroptera: Anthocoridae) and on its predatory activity against the red flour beetle, Tribolium castaneum (Herbst) (Coleoptera: Tenebrionidae) were investigated. Survival of eggs and larvae was high at 24°C and 32°C. At 19°C none of the larvae survived longer than the first instar, whereas at 21°C the number of the larvae completing the immature stage was extremely low. Developmental time was significantly shorter at 32°C. Females lived longer at 21°C, but no differences were observed at 24°C and 32°C. Fecundity was greatly reduced at 21°C and was higher at 32°C. At 21°C, the intrinsic rate of increase (r_m) reached the minimum (0.0004), and gradually increased with temperature (0.054 at 24°C and 0.137 at 32°C). At 24°C larvae consumed more prey during their development, but at 32°C the predation rate per day was higher. For adults both total predation rate and predation rate per day were higher at 32°C. The performance of the anthocorid at the various temperatures is discussed in relation to its practical use as a control agent for stored product insects.
