Intensive research in the area of medical nanotechnology, especially to cope with the bacterial resistance against conventional antibiotics, has shown strong antimicrobial action of metallic and metal-oxide nanomaterials towards a wide variety of bacteria. However, the important remaining problem is that nanomaterials with highest antibacterial activity generally express also a high level of cytotoxicity for mammalian cells. Here we present gallium nanoparticles as a new solution to this problem. We developed a nanocomposite from bioactive hydroxyapatite nanorods (84?wt %) and antibacterial nanospheres of elemental gallium (16?wt %) with mode diameter of 22?±?11?nm. In direct comparison, such nanocomposite with gallium nanoparticles exhibited better antibacterial properties against Pseudomonas aeruginosa and lower in-vitro cytotoxicity for human lung fibroblasts IMR-90 and mouse fibroblasts L929 (efficient antibacterial action and low toxicity from 0.1 to 1?g/L) than the nanocomposite of hydroxyapatite and silver nanoparticles (efficient antibacterial action and low toxicity from 0.2 to 0.25?g/L). This is the first report of a biomaterial composite with gallium nanoparticles. The observed strong antibacterial properties and low cytotoxicity make the investigated material promising for the prevention of implantation–induced infections that are frequently caused by P. aeruginosa.  相似文献

A nanofabrication method for the production of ultra-dense planar metallic nanowire arrays scalable to wafer-size is presented. The method is based on an efficient template deposition process to grow diverse metallic nanowire arrays with extreme regularity in only two steps. First, III–V semiconductor substrates are irradiated by a low-energy ion beam at an elevated temperature, forming a highly ordered nanogroove pattern by a “reverse epitaxy” process due to self-assembly of surface vacancies. Second, diverse metallic nanowire arrays (Au, Fe, Ni, Co, FeAl alloy) are fabricated on these III–V templates by deposition at a glancing incidence angle. This method allows for the fabrication of metallic nanowire arrays with periodicities down to 45 nm scaled up to wafer-size fabrication. As typical noble and magnetic metals, the Au and Fe nanowire arrays produced here exhibited large anisotropic optical and magnetic properties, respectively. The excitation of localized surface plasmon resonances (LSPRs) of the Au nanowire arrays resulted in a high electric field enhancement, which was used to detect phthalocyanine (CoPc) in surface-enhanced Raman scattering (SERS). Furthermore, the Fe nanowire arrays showed a very high in-plane magnetic anisotropy of approximately 412 mT, which may be the largest in-plane magnetic anisotropy field yet reported that is solely induced via shape anisotropy within the plane of a thin film.

We demonstrate experimentally the compression of optical pulses, spectrally broadened by self-phase modulation occurring in the rod of a mode-locked Q-switched YLF laser, with an unchirped, apodized fiber Bragg grating in transmission. The compression is due to the strong dispersion of the Bragg grating at frequencies close to the edge of the photonic bandgap, in the passband, where the transmission is high. With the systems investigated, an 80-ps pulse, which is spectrally broadened, owing to self-phase modulation, with a peak nonlinear phase shift of D? = 7, is compressed to approximately 15 ps, in good agreement with theory and numerical simulations. The results demonstrate that photonic bandgap structures are promising devices for efficient pulse compression.  相似文献

This paper presents a Computational Intelligence scheme to deal with subjective human inspection tasks in the industry that are subjective measurements. The scheme is used to solve two cosmetic subjective measurements tasks, classification of cosmetic defects and detection of non-uniform color regions in a translucent film. The first problem is solved with two approaches supervised and unsupervised Artificial Neural Networks. Both techniques yield the same performance, 92.35% of correct classification. Considering that a human inspector has a performance between 85% and 90%, the performance achieved is acceptable. The second problem is faced with a hybrid system based on fuzzy clustering and a Self-Organizing Map. The hybrid approach involves management of uncertainty through fuzzy theory and unsupervised training supported by the SOM. The proposed system is able to find non-uniform color regions with better resolution than a human inspector. The system also showed to be more sensitive than a simple fuzzy clustering approach.  相似文献

ContextModel-Driven Development (MDD) is an alternative approach for information systems development. The basic underlying concept of this approach is the definition of abstract models that can be transformed to obtain models near implementation. One fairly widespread proposal in this sphere is that of Model Driven Architecture (MDA). Business process models are abstract models which additionally contain key information about the tasks that are being carried out to achieve the company’s goals, and two notations currently exist for modelling business processes: the Unified Modelling Language (UML), through activity diagrams, and the Business Process Modelling Notation (BPMN).ObjectiveOur research is particularly focused on security requirements, in such a way that security is modelled along with the other aspects that are included in a business process. To this end, in earlier works we have defined a metamodel called secure business process (SBP), which may assist in the process of developing software as a source of highly valuable requirements (including very abstract security requirements), which are transformed into models with a lower abstraction level, such as analysis class diagrams and use case diagrams through the approach presented in this paper.MethodWe have defined all the transformation rules necessary to obtain analysis class diagrams and use case diagrams from SBP, and refined them through the characteristic iterative process of the action-research method.ResultsWe have obtained a set of rules and a checklist that make it possible to automatically obtain a set of UML analysis classes and use cases, starting from SBP models. Our approach has additionally been applied in a real environment in the area of the payment of electrical energy consumption.ConclusionsThe application of our proposal shows that our semi-automatic process can be used to obtain a set of useful artifacts for software development processes.  相似文献

ContextDiagnosing processes in a small company requires process assessment practices which give qualitative and quantitative results; these should offer an overall view of the process capability. The purpose is to obtain relevant information about the running of processes, for use in their control and improvement. However, small organizations have some problems in running process assessment, due to their specific characteristics and limitations.ObjectiveThis paper presents a methodology for assessing software processes which assist the activity of software process diagnosis in small organizations. There is an attempt to address issues such as the fact that: (i) process assessment is expensive and typically requires major company resources and (ii) many light assessment methods do not provide information that is detailed enough for diagnosing and improving processes.MethodTo achieve all this, the METvalCOMPETISOFT assessment methodology was developed. This methodology: (i) incorporates the strategy of internal assessments known as rapid assessment, meaning that these assessments do not take up too much time or use an excessive quantity of resources, nor are they too rigorous and (ii) meets all the requirements described in the literature for an assessment proposal which is customized to the typical features of small companies.ResultsThis paper also describes the experience of the application of this methodology in eight small software organizations that took part in the COMPETISOFT project. The results obtained show that this approach allows us to obtain reliable information about the strengths and weaknesses of software processes, along with information to companies on opportunities for improvement.ConclusionThe assessment methodology proposed sets out the elements needed to assist with diagnosing the process in small organizations step-by-step while seeking to make its application economically feasible in terms of resources and time. From the initial application it may be seen that this assessment methodology can be useful, practical and suitable for diagnosing processes in this type of organizations.  相似文献

Vehicular sensing where vehicles on the road continuously gather, process, and share location-relevant sensor data (e.g., road condition, traffic flow) is emerging as a new network paradigm for sensor information sharing in urban environments. Recently, smartphones have also received a lot of attention for their potential as portable vehicular urban sensing platforms, as they are equipped with a variety of environment and motion sensors (e.g., audio/video, accelerometer, and GPS) and multiple wireless interfaces (e.g., WiFi, Bluetooth and 2/3G). The ability to take a smartphone on board a vehicle and to complement the sensors of the latter with advanced smartphone capabilities is of immense interest to the industry. In this paper we survey recent vehicular sensor network developments and identify new trends. In particular we review the way sensor information is collected, stored and harvested using inter-vehicular communications (e.g., mobility-assist mobility-assisted dissemination and geographic storage), as well using the infrastructure (e.g., centralized and distributed storage in the wired Internet). The comparative performance of the various sensing schemes is important to us. Thus, we review key results by carefully examining and explaining the evaluation methodology, in the process gaining insight into vehicular sensor network design. Our comparative study confirms that system performance is impacted by a variety of factors such as wireless access methods, mobility, user location, and popularity of the information.  相似文献

Currently, the design of aesthetic products is a process that requires a set of activities where digital models and physical mockups play a key role. Typically, these are modified (and built) several times before reaching the desired design, increasing the development time and, consequently, the final product cost. In this paper, we present an innovative design environment for computer-aided design (CAD) surface analysis. Our system relies on a direct visuo-haptic display system, which enables users to visualize models using a stereoscopic view, and allows the evaluation of sectional curves using touch. Profile curves are rendered using an haptic device that deforms a plastic strip, thanks to a set of actuators, to reproduce the curvature of the shape co-located with the virtual model. By touching the strip, users are able to evaluate shape characteristics, such as curvature or discontinuities (rendered using sound), and to assess the surface quality. We believe that future computer-aided systems (CAS)/CAD systems based on our approach will contribute in improving the design process at industrial level. Moreover, these will allow companies to reduce the product development time by reducing the number of physical mockups necessary for the product design evaluation and by increasing the quality of the final product, allowing a wider exploration and comparative evaluation of alternatives in the given time.  相似文献
