In this pilot study, we compared two protocols for robot-based rehabilitation of upper limb in multiple sclerosis (MS): a protocol involving reaching tasks (RT) requiring arm transport only and a protocol requiring both objects' reaching and manipulation (RMT). Twenty-two MS subjects were assigned to RT or RMT group. Both protocols consisted of eight sessions. During RT training, subjects moved the handle of a planar robotic manipulandum toward circular targets displayed on a screen. RMT protocol required patients to reach and manipulate real objects, by moving the robotic arm equipped with a handle which left the hand free for distal tasks. In both trainings, the robot generated resistive and perturbing forces. Subjects were evaluated with clinical and instrumental tests. The results confirmed that MS patients maintained the ability to adapt to the robot-generated forces and that the rate of motor learning increased across sessions. Robot-therapy significantly reduced arm tremor and improved arm kinematics and functional ability. Compared to RT, RMT protocol induced a significantly larger improvement in movements involving grasp (improvement in Grasp ARAT sub-score: RMT 77.4%, RT 29.5%, p=0.035) but not precision grip. Future studies are needed to evaluate if longer trainings and the use of robotic handles would significantly improve also fine manipulation. 相似文献

High‐Energy Ball Milling (HEBM) is proposed as a cost effective and environmental friendly technique to produce Co‐ and Mn‐ based oxides suitable for application as protective coating. Mixtures of manganese and cobalt oxides in different molar ratio (Co:Mn = 1:1 and Co:Mn = 2:1) were subjected to mechanochemical treatment up to 100 h and morpho‐structural evolution was evaluated. XRD analysis results show that the HEBM treatment promotes the solid‐state reaction of the starting compounds, with the formation of different crystalline phases when compared to high‐temperature solid‐state synthesis. SEM observations and N2 adsorption measurements suggest that all processed powders are composed by aggregates of nanometric particles. While long milling time is required to complete the reaction, 10 hours are enough to activate the powders to obtain the desired phases after a mild thermal treatment, as evidenced by in situ thermal XRD analysis. Electrical conductivity measures performed with the Van der Pauw method on sintered pellets evidence a significant difference between the two compositions, related to the dual‐phase nature of Co:Mn = 1:1 material at intermediate temperatures (i.e., T < 700°C), Co:Mn = 2:1 sample showing higher conductivity values in the whole tested range (500°C–800°C). 相似文献

Lignin powder, obtained from an abundant and low cost source, straw, through a low environmental impact process, the steam explosion, is used for the preparation of blends with low-density polyethylene (LDPE), linear low-density polyethylene (LLDPE), high-density polyethylene (HDPE) and atactic polystyrene (PS).The obtained blends are processable through the conventional techniques used for thermoplastics; the modulus slightly increases for most lignin-polymer blends, while the tensile stress and elongation reduce. Extra virgin olive oil (EVOO) with its nutraceutical characteristics substantially contributes as a major nutrient to the health benefit of the Mediterranean diet. Unfortunately, the adulteration of EVOO with less expensive oils (e.g., peanut and corn oils), has become one of the biggest source of agricultural fraud in the European Union, with important health implications for consumers, mainly due to the introduction of seed oil-derived allergens causing, especially in children, severe food allergy phenomena. In this regard, revealing adulterations of EVOO is of fundamental importance for health care and prevention reasons, especially in children. To this aim, effective analytical methods to assess EVOO purity are necessary. Here, we propose a simple, rapid, robust and very sensitive method for non-specialized mass spectrometric laboratory, based on the matrix-assisted laser desorption/ionization mass spectrometry (MALDI-TOF MS) coupled to unsupervised hierarchical clustering (UHC), principal component (PCA) and Pearson’s correlation analyses, to reveal corn oil (CO) adulterations in EVOO at very low levels (down to 0.5%). 相似文献

Imidazolium poly(butylene terephthalate) ionomers with ionic groups located randomly along the polymer chain or selectively as end-groups (telechelic) have been prepared in order to determine their antimicrobial (AM) activity. Two different approaches have been followed for the linkage of the imidazolium to the polymer backbone: a covalent bond and an ionic aggregation to sulfonated groups covalently bonded to the polymer. The ionic groups have been linked to the polymer in order to improve the long-term AM activity since the low molecular weight additives commonly used tends to migrate toward the surface during use. We have found that imidazolium ionomers present AM activity comparable with that of commercial antimicrobial agents such as Triclosan. The AM activity depends on the polymer architecture, the telechelic approach being more active compared to the random approach. We have proved that imidazolium ionomers retain their high AM activity even after 6 days in water at 60 °C while Triclosan consistently loses his activity. 相似文献

Chemically assisted primary sedimentation (CAPS) or chemically enhanced primary treatment (CEPT) consists of adding chemicals in order to increase the coagulation, flocculation and sedimentation of raw wastewater. Over the last twenty years, the use of CAPS has increased due to the development of better coagulants and flocculation enhancers, stricter standards as well as the need for low-energy treatment technologies, especially in developing countries. This paper defines a very simple multi-criteria procedure to be used in order to select the best combination of coagulant and dose when using jar tests. It is based on the adoption of the following 5 criteria: COD percentage removal, sludge volume after 2 h, coagulant dose, coagulant cost, pH percentage variation. The mathematical affordability of the procedure was tested by comparing it with the well known analytic hierarchy process. 相似文献
