In the proposed low-loss structure, a region whose refractive index is altered for reducing bending losses becomes much smaller. The beam propagation method is used to evaluate the loss of the modified corner bend proposed here. The validity of the results is confirmed in some cases through a comparison with those of a combination of the finite-element and boundary-element methods. Also, it is shown that the propagation characteristics of the proposed structure can be easily explained by using Snell's law  相似文献

The finite-element method has been applied to the scattering by an inhomogeneous H-plane discontinuity of arbitrary shape in a rectangular waveguide. As an example of the method, a right-angle corner bend and a waveguide-type dielectric filter are considered. Our results agree well with earlier theoretical and experimental results.  相似文献

A scalar finite-element method is used for investigating propagation characteristics of dual-mode highly elliptical-core fibers. The dispersion property, polarization modal birefringence, and spatial modal birefringence are calculated. To improve the accuracy of solutions, isoparametric curvilinear elements are introduced. The applicability of the scalar finite-element method for highly elliptical-core fibers is assessed by comparing the results obtained with the vector finite-element method. An approximate simple approach, in which an elliptical-core is replaced by an appropriate rectangular-core, is also examined  相似文献

Aldehyde oxidase (AO; EC 1.2.3.1) activity was measured in seedlings of wild type or an auxin-overproducing mutant, superroot1 (sur1), of Arabidopsis thaliana. Activity staining for AO after native polyacrylamide gel electrophoresis separation of seedling extracts revealed that there were three major bands with AO activity (AO1-3) in wild-type and mutant seedlings. One of them (AO1) had a higher substrate preference for indole-3-aldehyde. This AO activity was significantly higher in sur1 mutant seedlings than in the wild type. The difference in activity was most apparent 7 d after germination, the same time required for the appearance of the remarkable sur1 phenotype, which includes epinastic cotyledons, elongated hypocotyls, and enhanced root development. Higher activity was observed in the root and hypocotyl region of the mutant seedlings. We also assayed the indole-3-acetaldehyde oxidase activity in extracts by high-performance liquid chromatography detection of indole-3-acetic acid (IAA). The activity was about 5 times higher in the extract of the sur1 seedlings, indicating that AO1 also has a substrate preference for abscisic aldehyde. Treatment of the wild-type seedlings with picloram or IAA caused no significant increase in AO1 activity. This result suggested that the higher activity of AO1 in sur1 mutant seedlings was not induced by IAA accumulation and, thus, strongly supports the possible role of AO1 in IAA biosynthesis in Arabidopsis seedlings.  相似文献

A unified computer-aided numerical approach, based on the finite-element method, is developed for analyzing optical waves guided by dielectric slab waveguiding structures with arbitrary nonlinear media. In the formulations, both TE and TM polarizations are considered. For the TM case, the biaxial nature of nonlinear refractive index is considered without any approximation. Numerical results are presented for nonlinear TE and TM waves propagating in symmetric slab waveguides. Dynamic mechanical properties of photopolymerizable poly(vinyl alcohol) (PVA)–monoacrylate blends were investigated by measuring dynamic shear modulus G′ and loss tangent, tan δ. The dynamic mechanical properties of the blends before being exposed to UV irradiation were governed by the weight percent of the monomers which act as plasticizers. On the other hand, the UV-irradiated blends seemed to be typical two-phase materials since they revealed two tan δ maxima whose positions were independent of the monomer content. Those two maxima were assigned to PVA and photopolymerized acrylates with reference to the dynamic mechanical data of PVA and a PVA-polyacrylamide polyblend. Those dynamic mechanical data suggested that insolubilization of the blend type photopolymers should be caused by a decrease in solubility due to graft polymerization of acrylate monomers onto PVA.  相似文献

The OSE Project aims at developing the technology to utilize solar energy for heating, cooling and hot water supply on the basis of various technology for energy conservation in buildings. For the first step of this project a solar heating and cooling system with flat plate collectors and absorption refrigeration machine was installed in a house in 1974.
