Preparation of a biopolymer chitosan‐polypropylene imine (CS‐PPI) as a biocompatible adsorbent and its reactive textile dyes removal potential were performed. Chemical specifications of CS‐PPI were determined using Fourier transform infrared, 1H‐NMR, and 13C‐NMR. The surface morphology of the CS‐PPI surface was characterized by scanning electron microscopy. Results confirmed that the linkages between the NH2 groups of PPI dendrimer and carboxylic groups of modified Chitosan were accomplished chemically. Two textile reactive dyes, reactive black 5 (RB5) and reactive red 198 (RR198), were used as model compounds. A response surface methodology was applied to estimate the simple and combined effects of the operating variables, including pH, dye concentration, time contact, and temperature. Under the optimal values of process parameters, the dye removal performance of 97 and 99% was achieved for RB5 and RR198, respectively. Furthermore, the isotherm and kinetic models of dyes adsorption were performed. Adsorption data represented that both examined dye followed the Langmuir isotherm. The adsorption kinetics of both reactive dyes were satisfied by pseudo‐second order equation. Based on this study, CS‐PPI due to having high adsorption capacity (6250 mg/g for RB5 and 5882.35 mg/g for RR198), biocompatibility and ecofriendly properties might be a suitable adsorbent for removal of reactive dyes from colored solutions. © 2012 Wiley Periodicals, Inc. The simultaneous influence of NaCl, KCl and KI salts and well known sodium dodecyl sulfate (SDS) surfactant on the interfacial tension (IFT) of conventionally used chemical system of toluene-water was studied. The concentration range of salts was within (0.010 to 0.075) mol/dm3 and of surfactant within (1.7 to 26.0)×10?5 mol/dm3. SDS adsorption on interface is highly intensified in the presence of salts and IFT can reach to 67.1% of its initial value. Accordingly, the role of ions was investigated and the order of salts effectiveness was revealed as KI?KCl>NaCl. The obtained data, with both effects, were nicely reproduced using an equation of state, based on Gibbs adsorption equation and the Langmuir isotherm. Two relevant important adsorption parameters exhibited reasonable variations. Furthermore, the general revealed linear variation of IFT with a previously defined “effective concentration” indicates the strong influence of the surfactant counterions.  相似文献

In this research, chitosan-poly(propylene)imine dendrimer hybrid (CS-PPI) was applied to wool fabrics; and weight gain and antibacterial properties of the grafted wool fabric by CS-PPI were investigated. A response surface methodology employed for optimization of the important factors such as pH, processing time, and CS-PPI and cross-linking agent (CA) concentrations. The physical properties showed sensible changes regardless of weight gain. The maximum weight gain was obtained when the wool fabrics were treated with pH 5, processing time 24 h, CS-PPI 20 %(owf) and CA 5 % over weight of fiber (owf). Scanning electron microscopy analysis showed the presence of foreign particles determinedly fixed to the surface of the wool fabric. Fourier transform infrared spectroscopy and differential scanning colorimetry revealed the grafting of CS-PPI onto wool fabric by forming novel chemical bonds between the wool and CS-PPI molecules. The treated wool fabrics showed broad-spectrum antimicrobial activity against gram-positive and gram-negative bacteria. Antimicrobial activities of the treated wool by CS-PPI at a concentration of 20 % over weight of fiber (owf) demonstrated 100 % bacterial growth inhibition, which was preserved more than 84 % even after being washed in 12 various conditions repeatedly. The grafted wool fabrics have antibacterial potential due to the antibacterial property of CS-PPI molecules. The mechanism of CS-PPI grafting onto wool fabric using CA was proposed. The findings of this study support the potential production of the new environmentally friendly textile fibers.  相似文献

The free radical terpolymerization of indene (In), methyl methacrylate (MMA) and acrylonitrile (AN) has been investigated. The rate of polymerization of all the binary systems involved has been measured dilatometrically for the homogeneous polymerization. The reactivity ratios of the three binary systems were calculated and were found to be equal to 0.031 and 0.397 for In/AN copolymers and 0.02 and 3.82 for In/MMA copolymers and finally 0.152 and 1.20 for AN/MMA copolymers. The rate of terpolymerization in bulk has been measured as well as the relationship between the monomer mixture composition and the obtained terpolymer in order to construct the compositional triangle. Also the effect of initiator concentration on the rate of terpolymerization was investigated. The activation energy of terpolymerization was determined. The terpolymers were characterized by spectral and thermo-gravimetric analyses. The data indicates that polyindene improves the thermal stability of the prepared terpolymers.  相似文献

Active Fiber Bragg Grating Hydrogen Sensors for All-Temperature Operation   总被引:1,自引:0,他引:1  
The use of liquid hydrogen as a fuel requires low-cost multipoint sensing of hydrogen gas for leak detection and location well below the 4% explosion limit of hydrogen. Herein is presented a multipoint in-fiber hydrogen sensor capable of hydrogen detection below 0.5% concentration with a response time of less than 10 s. Our solution entails use of a fiber Bragg grating (FBG) coated with a layer of hydrogen-absorbing palladium which, in turn, induces strain in the FBG in the presence of hydrogen. Infrared power laser light is used to induce heating in the palladium coating which dramatically decreases sensor response time and increases the sensor's sensitivity at low temperatures. This technology promises an inexpensive fiber solution for a multipoint hydrogen detection array with only one fiber feed-through  相似文献

Due to their advantages, facial recognition systems are among the most widely used biometric systems in recent years. However, their drawback is that they can easily be deceived by using 3D masks, which are replicas of real faces. To confirm this fact, we have tested the vulnerability to 3D masks attacks of the already approved Legendre moments invariants (LMI)-based face recognition method. This has been achieved by using the 3D mask attack database (3DMAD), which consists of real faces and faces with 3D masks. The obtained spoof false acceptance rate (SFAR) was close to 65%, which proves that this recognition system is vulnerable to 3D masks attacks. This is generally the case of other face recognition systems, with no anti-spoofing provision. In this paper, a face recognition method is proposed to prevent hackers from deceiving face recognition systems by using 3D masks of people belonging to the system database. This method combines the LMI and the linear discriminant analysis for characteristic features extraction, and the maximum likelihood for classification. With a 97.6% recognition rate and a SFAR equal to 0.83%, the results obtained may be considered as very satisfactory. These results, while obtained with a lower computational time, compare favorably with those of the state-of-the-art method that uses the same 3DMAD database.  相似文献
