A simple method is proposed to estimate coalescence stability of protein-stabilized emulsions. Coalescence was accelerated through agitation and measured by change in emulsion turbidity over time. A coalescence index (CI) was determined and used to compare emulsions stabilized with casein, whey (WPI) and soy protein isolates (SPI). CI increased when stirring rate increased. Casein produced more stable emulsions, followed by WPI and SPI. High homogenization pressure increased coalescence stability of WPI and SPI-stabilized emulsions and decreased coalescence stability of casein-stabilized emulsions. Microscopic examination, showed agitation of the emulsion had clearly induced formation of large oil droplets which acted as coalescence nuclei. 相似文献

Field emission scanning electron microscopy (FE-SEM) and X-ray diffraction (XRD) have been used to study the microstructural changes and phase development that take place during the hydration of cubic (pure) and orthorhombic (Na-doped) tricalcium aluminate (C3A) and gypsum in the absence and presence of lime. The results demonstrate that important differences occur in the hydration of each C3A polymorph and gypsum when no lime is added; orthorhombic C3A reacts faster with gypsum than the cubic phase, forming longer ettringite needles; however, the presence of lime slows down the formation of ettringite in the orthorhombic sample. Twenty-three strains of lactic acid enterococci isolated from dromedary raw milks in Southern Algeria were investigated for their proteolytic activity and ability to produce biogenic amines by decarboxylating amino acids: histidine, tyrosine and ornithine. All strains tested displayed proteolytic activities, but none of them were able to produce detectable biogenic amines in the usual adequate laboratory media, namely, Joosten and Northolt medium and Leuschner medium. Polymerase chain reaction experiments indicate a positive correlation between the absence of the hdc and odc genes and the lack of histamine and putrescine production for all tested strains. By contrast, all strains appeared to possess tdc gene, but no correlation was found with a negative expression of tyrosine decarboxylase.

Solid oxide fuel cells (SOFCs) supported on porous steel substrates are recently gaining much attention, because fabrication cost of SOFC might be significantly reduced. In this paper high temperature properties of porous stainless steel 316 L for application in SOFCs are evaluated. The 316 L was investigated using thermogravimetric analysis, XRD analysis and electrical measurements of scales formed on steel surface. The YSZ ceramic electrolyte was deposited on the 316 L and interaction of formed interlayer was evaluated. The results show that the 316 L is applicable only for SOFCs operated below 500 °C. 相似文献

Cryptococcal meningitis has a high mortality rate of central nervous infection. The patients usually die of the disease itself, or complications from increased intracranial pressure. Early diagnosis and treatment, including surgical drainage, will improve the results. In this series, twenty-one patients with high intracranial pressure (ICP > 300 mmH2 O) are presented. Fourteen received implantation of Ommaya reservoir to aspirate cerebrospinal fluid (CSF) for relief of symptoms of ICP. Meanwhile 4 of these 14 patients also received intraventricular injection of amphotericin B because of poor response to systemic drugs. Another seven patient received systemic drug therapy only. Survival during therapy occurred in 11 of 14 patients in the surgical group, compared with only 1 of 7 patients treated by drug therapy alone (P = 0.019). In the 14 patients who received implantation of an Ommaya reservoir, there was one complication of CSF leakage when the reservoir ruptured because of repeated aspiration. For patients with cryptococcal meningitis with high ICP, early implantation of an Ommaya reservoir will improve the survival rate. 相似文献
