A new technique is described for feeding printed antennas. A microstrip antenna on one substrate is coupled through an electrically small aperture to a microstrip feed line on a perpendicularly oriented substrate. No direct connection is made to the patch. This paper describes an attempt to characterize the deterioration of a structural material's mechanical properties by nonlinear
acoustics. In this particular case, the damage was caused by “thermal embrittlement” during which the material, here the nickel-based
alloy Inconel 718, loses a significant fraction of its fracture toughness. Harmonic generation was the experimental method
used to characterize the microstructural changes in the material as a function of exposure time at elevated temperatures.
Tests were performed on two heats of Inconel 718 with slightly different chemistries, with one heat showing particular sensitivity
of the fracture toughness to the elevated temperature exposure with corresponding higher changes in the nonlinearity parameter.
As a mechanical measure of the fracture toughness deterioration, a small specimen punch test was used in which the ductility
of a thin slice of material is determined. A clear difference between the two heats was noted in the metallographic examination,
which is reflected in the harmonic generation as well as the punch test data. An explanation for the changes of the harmonic

In recent years, dual-cure chemistry has been exploited to realize interpenetrating networks (IPNs) that provide enhanced thermo-mechanical properties. In this contribution, photoinduced curing of (meth)acrylates is used to build the desired 3D structure, whereas the thermally triggered polymerization reaction of 2H-chromene functionalized building blocks is utilized to create the IPN. This strategy combines the advantages of traditional UV-curable monomers with high-performance thermosets. After the successful synthesis of the bispropargyl ether derivative, i.e., 4,4′-(propane-2,2-diyl)bis((ethynyloxy)benzene), its thermally induced conversion to the corresponding 2H chromene functionalized prepolymer is studied by Fourier-transform infrared spectroscopy and gel permeation chromatography. The network formation as well as the printability of various formulations containing different amounts of the thermo-curable building block is investigated. The obtained IPNs provide enhanced thermo-mechanical properties making these resins suitable for the additive manufacturing of functional 3D parts for high-performance applications. 相似文献

Conventional fluids for peritoneal dialysis (PD) contain reactive glucose degradation products (GDPs) as a result of glucose breakdown during heat-sterilization. GDPs in PD fluids (PDFs) have been associated with the progressive alteration of the peritoneal membrane during long-term PD by cytotoxic effects and formation of advanced glycation endproducts (AGEs). In this study, we investigated the possible fate of two characteristic GDPs, 3-deoxyglucosone (3-DG) and glyoxal, during PD. In vivo, 3-DG and glyoxal concentrations, which were analyzed by high-performance liquid chromatography (HPLC), decreased in PDFs by 78% and 88% during 4 h of dwell time. The PDFs were then incubated in vitro in the presence of the most important reaction partners of GDPs in the peritoneal cavity. Neither human peritoneal mesothelial cells, human peritoneal fibroblasts, soluble protein, an insoluble collagen surface, nor components of spent dialysate led to a significant reduction of 3-DG or glyoxal after 6 h. Only after long-term incubation, a noticeable decrease of 3-DG was observed (-37% after three weeks), more likely due to spontaneous degradation reaction than formation of advanced glycation endproducts. These results suggest that in the course of PD, 3-DG, and glyoxal are absorbed into the organism and thus might contribute to the systemic pool of reactive carbonyl compounds. 相似文献

The present investigation reports on the application of a new antioxidant activity assay for the examination of flavonoids. It has been shown that the high-performance liquid chromatography with electrochemical detection (HPLC–ED) measurements allow to obtain additional information about the antioxidative properties of pure compounds by measuring their half-wave potential, the chromatographic peak height, and the product of the peak height and exponent of potential. In comparison to the classical electrochemical measurements, the HPLC–ED is characterized by a much smaller detection limit. The results were compared with the standard photometric measurement based on 1,1-diphenyl-2-picrylhydrazyl radicals. The possible antioxidant activity forecasting is also discussed. 相似文献

Polyphenolic grape seed extract (0.1 w/v%) was encapsulated in liposomes (1% soy lecithin) by high pressure homogenization at 22?500 psi. Liposomes containing grape extract had mean particle diameters of <100 nm compared to control liposomes that contained no extract and that had mean particle diameters of <40 nm. Liposomes with grape seed extract were long-term oxidatively stable, e.g. significantly less hexanal (<15 μmol L(-1)) was formed during storage for 150 days compared to liposomes without extract (>717 μmol L(-1)). Over 80% of the polyphenolic compounds in grape seed extract were incorporated into the liposomal membrane rather than into their interior and compounds remained integrated even if the system pH was changed. Coated liposomes were prepared by alternately adding a cationic polymer (chitosan) and an anionic polymer (citrus pectin). Up to 4 coats could be deposited onto the liposomes without incurring aggregation, i.e. dispersions were physically stable during storage for up to 150 days. Deposition of multiple biopolymer coats onto liposomes decreased the amount of polyphenols that reacted with the Folin-Ciocalteu reagent, suggesting that the polyphenols were no longer exposed to the aqueous phase. Our results hence indicate that polymer-coated liposomes are highly capable carrier systems for polyphenols that may have reduced interactions with ingredients in complex media such as foods. 相似文献

The effect of sonication time and kind of liquid medium on polyphenol retention and microstructure changes during predrying treatment of apple tissue was investigated. The apple cubes from ‘Idared’ cultivar were submerged in water or sucrose solution and sonicated indirectly in beakers placed in a water bath fitted with ultrasound transducers (25 kHz, 0.1 W/cm3) at 40 °C. The treatment was conducted with and without ultrasound applied for 45 and 90 min. The content of individual polyphenols was monitored by a reverse-phase high-performance liquid chromatography (RP-HPLC) method. The dominant phenolic compounds in apple were procyanidins, accounting for 56 % of total polyphenols. While a significant effect of sonication on mass transfer intensification was observed when the samples were dehydrated in sucrose solution, almost no negative effects of ultrasound application were perceived on polyphenols concentration, except for dimers of catechin. When using ultrasound in water solution, an increase in polyphenol compound losses was noted. Furthermore, the ultrasound energy caused an apple tissue structure modification which additionally affected polyphenol retention during predrying treatment. 相似文献

The study compared the growth capability of probiotic (Lactobacillus acidophilus La05, Lactobacillus casei Lc01 and Bifidobacterium animalis Bb12) and non-probiotic (Lactobacillus delbrueckii subsp bulgaricus and Streptococcus thermophilus) cultures on twenty-one culture media grouped according to selectivity: non-selective agars, selective agars without antibiotics and MRS agars containing different combinations of lithium chloride, cystein, bile salts and antibiotics. Four of these media were selected for quantitative enumeration of L. acidophilus La05, L. casei Lc01, and B. animalis Bb12. The best culture media and incubation conditions for enumeration of the probiotic cultures were: B. animalis: MRS agar with dicloxacillin, 37 °C or 42 °C, anaerobiosis; L. acidophilus: MRS agar with bile salts, 37 °C or 42 °C, aerobiosis; L. casei: MRS agar with lithium chloride and sodium propionate, 37 °C or 42 °C, aerobiosis or anaerobiosis. Plating on MRS with glucose replaced by maltose, 37 °C or 42 °C, anaerobiosis, will distinguish probiotic from non-probiotic cultures. For enumeration of each probiotic in a mixed culture, the following media and incubation conditions were recommended: B. animalis: 4ABC-MRS, 42 °C, anaerobiosis, L. acidophilus: LC medium, 42 °C, aerobiosis or anaerobiosis and L. casei: LP-MRS, 42 °C, aerobiosis or anaerobiosis. Scanning electron microscopy (SEM), atomic force microscopy (AFM), as well as iodine and nitrogen sorption measurements were applied to investigate potato and corn starch granules surface after an action of Bacillus subtilis α-amylase. The SEM images revealed holes and pits (corn starch) or scratches (potato starch) on the surface of modified granules. These results were confirmed by AFM investigation which showed the presence of depressions of approximately 121 nm in diameter. Structure of the surface was not uniform. It consisted of small particles, amylopectin blocklets, of approximately 20 nm in diameter. They became more distinctive after α-amylolysis. Values of iodine binding capacity (IBC) obtained for hydrolyzed granules were lower than for native ones which indicated that the amylose and amylopectin chains building their surface were shortened. Specific surface area, volume and average diameter of mesopores increased for both starches after α-amylolysis. 相似文献

Fatigue crack initiation in Al 2219-T851 for fully reversed loading(R = σ/σmax =?1) parallel to the material rolling direction is found to occur at intermetallic inclusions at the specimen surface. The inclusions are not involved in crack initiation for fatigue perpendicular to the rolling direction, and for this orientation crack initiation is at grain boundaries and specimens have an increased fatigue life. Except for fatigue at low peak stress, multiple numbers of microcracks are formed and for selected failed specimens the number of cracks has been determined as a function of crack length. Such crack length distribution measurements show that there is significant retardation of microcracks by interaction with grain boundaries. Furthermore it is found that the coalescence of microcracks provides a mechanism for cracking to “jump“ grain boundaries and reduce fatigue lifetime. The effect of relative humidity on this process is to increase the observed mean crack length, and decrease the number of crack initiations apparently due to weakening of the matrix-intermetallic interface at potential initiation sites. The overall result is that no significant dependence of fatigue life on relative humidity is found. 相似文献
