In this study, seed slurry from a single addition anti-solvent plug flow crystallization of benzoic acid was used to seed the equivalent batch cooling crystallization. The experimental conditions were carried out to simulate automated self-seeding. This involves withdrawal of solution from a batch crystallizer, which is then mixed with anti-solvent within a plug flow crystallizer, in order to generate a seed slurry which is fed directly back to the batch crystallizer. This seeding strategy allowed the final CSD of the batch crystallization to be controlled by variation of the crystal size from the plug flow seeding device at a constant seed loading. The ability to use unequal feed/anti-solvent inlet flowrates (in the Roughton vortex mixer) proved effective in controlling the batch CSD at 2% seed loading and constant feed composition.  相似文献

Maternal obesity increases the risk of health complications in offspring, but whether these effects are exacerbated by offspring exposure to unhealthy diets warrants further investigation. Female Sprague-Dawley rats were fed either standard chow (n = 15) or ‘cafeteria’ (Caf, n = 21) diets across pre-pregnancy, gestation, and lactation. Male and female offspring were weaned onto chow or Caf diet (2–3/sex/litter), forming four groups; behavioural and metabolic parameters were assessed. At weaning, offspring from Caf dams were smaller and lighter, but had more retroperitoneal (RP) fat, with a larger effect in males. Maternal Caf diet significantly increased relative expression of ACACA and Fasn in male and female weanling liver, but not CPT-1, SREBP and PGC1; PPARα was increased in males from Caf dams. Maternal obesity enhanced the impact of postweaning Caf exposure on adult body weight, RP fat, liver mass, and plasma leptin in males but not females. Offspring from Caf dams appeared to exhibit reduced anxiety-like behaviour on the elevated plus maze. Hepatic CPT-1 expression was reduced only in adult males from Caf fed dams. Post weaning Caf diet consumption did not alter liver gene expression in the adult offspring. Maternal obesity exacerbated the obesogenic phenotype produced by postweaning Caf diet in male, but not female offspring. Thus, the impact of maternal obesity on adiposity and liver gene expression appeared more marked in males. Our data underline the sex-specific detrimental effects of maternal obesity on offspring.  相似文献

A testing program was conducted to determine the time-temperature response of the principal compliances of a unidirectional graphite/epoxy composite. It is shown that two components of the compliance matrix are time and temperature independent. In addition, the compliance matrix is found to be symmetric for the viscoelastic composite. The time-temperature superposition principle is used to determine shift factors. It is shown that shift factors are independent of fiber orientation for fiber angles that vary from 10 to 90° with respect to the load direction.  相似文献

Ten healthy beef cattle in a commercial abbatoir were treated intravenously before slaughter with a commercial papain-based tenderising injection (Pro Ten). Animals were observed for behavioural and clinical abnormalities following treatment. Serum enzyme activities were measured pre-treatment and post-treatment immediately pre-slaughter < 6 min later to detect liver and muscle damage. Carcases were examined grossly post mortem. Histological examination of liver, kidney and muscle followed. Nine contemporary, age-matched controls were similarly examined. It was concluded that ProTen treatment did not cause any detectable hepatocellular or renal damage and there was no significant difference in the parameters examined between treated and untreated cattle. A decision to ban the use of ProTen in cattle could not therefore be based on the premise that it interfered with the animal's welfare in the period following injection under the conditions pertaining in this experiment.  相似文献

A numerical study is conducted to investigate the influence of inlet flow condition on tip leakage flow (TLF) and stall margin in a transonic axial rotor.A commercial software package FLUENT,is used in the simulation.The rotor investigated in this paper is ND_TAC rotor,which is the rotor of one-stage transonic compressor in the University of Notre Dame.Three varied inlet flow conditions are simulated.The inlet boundary condition with hub distortion provides higher axial velocity for the incoming flow near tip region than that for the clean inflow,while the incoming main flow possesses lower axial velocity near the tip region at tip distortion inlet boundary condition.Among the total pressure ratio curves for the three inlet flow conditions,it is found that the hub dis-torted inlet boundary condition improves the stall margin,while the tip distorted inlet boundary condition dete-riorates compressor stability.The axial location of interface between tip leakage flow (TLF) and incoming main flow (MF) in the tip gap and the axial momentum ratio of TLF to MF are further examined.It is demonstrated that the axial momentum balance is the mechanism for interface movement.The hub distorted inflow could de-crease the axial momentum ratio,suppress the movement of the interface between TLF and MF towards blade leading edge plane and thus enhance compressor stability.  相似文献

Ionothermal synthesis, the use of ionic liquids as both solvent and template (structure-directing agent), has been used to prepare zeolites and inorganic-organic hybrids such as metal-organic frameworks. The underlying properties of the ionothermal method are discussed, and it is compared with traditional hydrothermal preparative methods. The materials resulting from ionothermal synthesis are described, and any structural features that can be related to the ionic liquid used as the solvent are discussed. Water quality of Scottish rivers: spatial and temporal trends   总被引:6,自引:0,他引:6  
The Harmonised Monitoring Scheme (HMS) was initiated in 1974 and represents the best-organised source of temporal and spatial data describing water quality for the major mainland rivers of Scotland, England and Wales. This paper presents the first detailed analysis of HMS data for Scotland, and identifies temporal changes in water quality from 1974 to 1995. From a concomitant analysis of catchment land cover characteristics, water quality indices have been linked with potential 'drivers' of change, influencing both point and diffuse sources. Nitrate concentrations between rivers are highly correlated with the amount of arable land, and relationships exist between grassland cover, orthphosphate-P and suspended solids concentrations. Similarly, urban catchments are highly correlated with ammonium-N, orthophosphate-P and suspended solids. Spatial and temporal trends in water quality for the rivers of Scotland are discussed.  相似文献

The effects of Co on RuO2/Al2O3's activities for water gas shift (WGS) and methanation were studied. Catalysts were characterized with BET, XRD, SEM/EDS, H2-TPR and CO-TPR. The effects of various parameters, such as calcination temperature, Ru–Co loading, Ru/Co ratio, inlet CO concentration and H2O/CO ratio on the activities of catalysts were investigated. There existed CoI (strongly interact with RuO2) and CoII (weakly interact with RuO2). For Co/RuO2/Al2O3 (Ru/Co = 1, AT = 350), only CoI existed as bimetallic Co–Ru nanoparticles. This unique structure led this catalyst to achieve the highest CO conversion of 98.6% exceeding WGS's theoretical thermodynamic equilibrium limit due to the co-occurrence of methanation. Co/RuO2/Al2O3 was more favorable to catalyze CO methanation than CO2 methanation. The apparent activation energies of forward and reverse WGS catalyzed by Co/RuO2/Al2O3 were 37.8 and 74.6 kJ mol−1, respectively. The difference was corresponding well to the enthalpy change (−41.1 kJ mol−1) of WGS.  相似文献

Sonar emits pulses of sound and uses the reflected echoes to gain information about target objects. It offers a low cost, complementary sensing modality for small robotic platforms. Although existing analytical approaches often assume independence across echoes, real sonar data can have more complicated structures due to device setup or experimental design. In this article, we consider sonar echo data collected from multiple terrain substrates with a dual-channel sonar head. Our goals are to identify the differential sonar responses to terrains and study the effectiveness of this dual-channel design in discriminating targets. We describe a unified analytical framework that achieves these goals rigorously, simultaneously, and automatically. The analysis was done by treating the echo envelope signals as functional responses and the terrain/channel information as covariates in a functional regression setting. We adopt functional mixed models that facilitate the estimation of terrain and channel effects while capturing the complex hierarchical structure in data. This unified analytical framework incorporates both Gaussian models and robust models. We fit the models using a full Bayesian approach, which enables us to perform multiple inferential tasks under the same modeling framework, including selecting models, estimating the effects of interest, identifying significant local regions, discriminating terrain types, and describing the discriminatory power of local regions. Our analysis of the sonar-terrain data identifies time regions that reflect differential sonar responses to terrains. The discriminant analysis suggests that a multi- or dual-channel design achieves target identification performance comparable with or better than a single-channel design.
