Multiscale morphological segmentation of gray-scale images   总被引:17,自引:0,他引:17  
In this paper, the authors have proposed a method of segmenting gray level images using multiscale morphology. The approach resembles the watershed algorithm in the sense that the dark (respectively bright) features which are basically canyons (respectively mountains) on the surface topography of the gray level image are gradually filled (respectively clipped) using multiscale morphological closing (respectively opening) by reconstruction with isotropic structuring element. The algorithm detects valid segments at each scale using three criteria namely growing, merging and saturation. Segments extracted at various scales are integrated in the final result. The algorithm is composed of two passes preceded by a preprocessing step for simplifying small scale details of the image that might cause over-segmentation. In the first pass feature images at various scales are extracted and kept in respective level of morphological towers. In the second pass, potential features contributing to the formation of segments at various scales are detected. Finally the algorithm traces the contours of all such contributing features at various scales. The scheme after its implementation is executed on a set of test images (synthetic as well as real) and the results are compared with those of few other standard methods. A quantitative measure of performance is also formulated for comparing the methods.  相似文献

Usable groundwater resources have strategic significance, given the arid climate of Kuwait. Assessment of groundwater resources through modelling is considered of paramount importance for sustained long‐term development of this resource. A conceptual model of the regional hydrogeology of the area has been developed based on the available data. Three aquifers were recognized within the Dammam Formation‐Kuwait Group sequence. VTDN software was used for numerical simulation of the groundwater flow in this aquifer system under steady‐state conditions. Calibration runs made to date suggest that the model is sensitive to the vertical coefficient of permeability of the aquitards and the horizontal transmissi‐vities of the aquifers. The water balance achieved shows that the contribution from the natural recharge from precipitation is insignificant.  相似文献

Using the Langmuir-Blodgett (LB) technique, novel copper bis(3-hydroxypropyloxy-hexaisopentyloxy)phthalocyanine molecules were deposited on quartz substrates. It is argued on the basis of pressure-area isotherms that films are deposited as monolayers. Optical absorption spectroscopy suggests that the deposited films were uniform. A.c. measurements were performed on LB films in a planar configuration at different temperatures. The power-law dependence of the conductivity on frequency is explained in terms of electronic conduction through hopping over a coulombic barrier 0.66 eV high. The Debye relaxation time is estimated to be of the order 811 µs at room temperature.  相似文献

A bioprocessing approach for the extraction of base, nuclear and precious metals from refractory and lean grade ores has been reviewed in this paper. Characteristic morphological features ofThiobacillus ferrooxidans, the organism which has been extensively used for biooxidation of sulphide ores have been discussed. Mechanisms of chemoautotrophy and mineral oxidation have been illustrated. The current engineering applications of this microorganism have also been brought out. Various methods for accelerating the growth ofThiobacillus ferrooxidans for faster biooxidation and genetic manipulation for development of desired strains have been outlined.  相似文献

A quantitative model that explains the spectral response, internal quantum efficiency, total short-circuit current, open-circuit voltage, and efficiency of high-efficiency solar cells with textured front surface and Lambertian back-surface reflectors is presented. A comparison of the textured cell characteristics is made with those of planar cells, and the separate roles of the front surface reflection coefficient and internal quantum efficiency in enhancing the short-circuit current have been investigated. It is shown that, in the case of large diffusion lengths, almost all the contribution to the increase of spectral response on texturization is due to the reduced reflection coefficient whereas, for small diffusion lengths, there is a significant increase in internal quantum efficiency on texturization, especially in the region of higher wavelengths. However, there is a small decrease in open-circuit voltage for large diffusion lengths, whereas no significant change is observed for small diffusion lengths on texturization. Nevertheless, there is a net gain in power conversion efficiency which is larger for smaller diffusion lengths  相似文献

In this paper an internal axis method Hamiltonian model has been applied to evaluate the torsional-rotational molecular parameters of asymmetrically substituted methyl mercaptan (CH2DSH) using previously observed microwave transitions. The torsional barrier potential barrier functions V1, V2 and V3 have been refined. The observed microwave transition frequencies have also been fitted to an energy expansion model, which allowed accurate predictions of yet unobserved transition frequencies with microwave accuracy. These values are independent of the Hamiltonian model used and will prove valuable for astrophysical detection. The matrix elements between various torsional sub-levels upto the fourth excited torsional state in the ground vibrational state.  相似文献

The numbers of argyrophilic nucleolar organizer regions (AgNORs) were quantified in oral carcinomas (n = 39) with or without human papillomavirus (HPV) infection. The AgNOR counts of the HPV-positive samples (7.15 +/- 2.13) were not significantly (P = 0.09) higher than those of the HPV-negative ones (6.16 +/- 1.89). Furthermore, the lesions infected with multiple HPV types had greater counts than those with HPV type 16/18 infection alone. Significant differences were observed between the mean counts of the poorly (10.50 +/- 0.54), moderately (7.31 +/- 1.07) and well- (5.12 +/- 0.85) differentiated carcinomas. The mean AgNOR numbers in the oral carcinomas at TNM stages III/IV were found to be significantly (P < 0.01) higher than the numbers in corresponding stage II lesions. Cytokinetics of the lesions assessed by the bromodeoxyuridine (Brdu) labelling index (LI%) showed a linear correlation (r = 0.91; P < 0.0001) with their respective mean AgNOR counts.  相似文献

High-resolution infrared (IR) and far infrared (FIR) Fourier transform absorption spectra have been employed to investigate assignments of FIR laser lines reported from optically-pumped13CH3OH. The spectroscopic measurements are used in conjunction with the reported IR pump and FIR laser frequencies to form closed combination loops for several systems, serving to confirm the assignments and in some cases to improve the accuracy of the FIR laser frequencies. Frequency predictions from combination differences are also presented for a number of potential new FIR laser lines.  相似文献

Abstract.  Limestone drains are an integral component of some of the most efficacious passive systems for the treatment of acid rock drainage (ARD). A critical design parameter for a limestone drain is the mass of limestone that will be required for effective treatment. This in turn depends on the flow rate, limestone dissolution rate, and associated hydraulic detention time necessary to achieve a certain effluent alkalinity for a given design life. Rates of alkalinity generation and limestone dissolution, and the quality of the limestone in terms of weight fraction of CaCO3 and percentage CaCO3 available must be known to determine the required mass of limestone. These parameters were experimentally determined for a natural and synthetic suite of ARD waters. The experimental results show that the empirical change in the alkalinity over time cannot simply be modeled as a first-order process. During the initial stage, the concentration increase is extremely fast, giving a linear and steep rise in the alkalinity. Alkalinity concentrations peaked at elapsed times of 90 to 180 minutes and then declined to a nearly constant value. The decline in alkalinity corresponds with a decline in concentrations of dissolved iron and aluminum, implying that the consumption of alkalinity by the hydrolysis of these metals is faster than the rate of alkalinity production by the dissolution of limestone, so that the reaction appears zero order in the early stage and pseudo-first order later. Because the changes in concentration were complex, considerable uncertainty exists in the rate constants for estimating alkalinity concentration. This causes problems in design equations based solely on a limestone dissolution rate that is estimated from alkalinity generation rates. A more applicable design procedure, combining the kinetics of alkalinity production and consumption with the hydraulics and chemical equilibrium of the system, is illustrated.
