The density of heat transfer rate from a vertical array of flat tubes in cross flow is maximized under fixed pressure drop using constructal design. With the constructal design, the tube arrangement is found such that the heat currents from the tubes to the coolant flow easily. The constraint in the present constructal design is the volume where the tubes are arranged inside it. The two degrees of freedom available inside the volume are the tube‐to‐tube spacing and the length of the flat part of the tubes (tube flatness). The tubes are heated with constant surface temperature. The equations of continuity, momentums, and energy for steady, two‐dimensional, and laminar forced convection are solved by means of a finite‐volume method. The ranges of the present study are Bejan number (dimensionless pressure drop) (103Be ≤ 105) and tube flatness (dimensionless length of the tube flat part) (0 ≤ F ≤ 0.8). The coolant used is air with Prandtl number (Pr = 0.72). The results reveal that the maximum heat transfer density decreases when the tube flatness decreases at constant Bejan number. At constant tube flatness, the heat transfer density increases as the dimensionless pressure drop (Bejan number) increases. Also, the optimal tube‐to‐tube spacing is constant, irrespective of the tube flatness at constant Bejan number.  相似文献

Waste or by-products contains a substantial amount of nutrients. Fish silage is an alternative way for assessment of fish discards and waste generated in the fish processing industries. The aim of the study was to evaluate the potential use of discard species (Equulites klunzingeri, marine fish and Carassius gibelio, freshwater fish) for fish silage and chemical quality of fish oil extracted from fish silages prepared with acid and fermented methods. Lipid quality of fish oils extracted from fish silages with LAB strains was evaluated in terms of thiobarbituric acid (TBA), peroxide value (PV), p-Anisidine (AV), totox values and fatty acid composition. The results showed that PV, TBA, AV and totox values of all extracted fish oils were within the acceptable limits for edible oils. Recovered fish oils from silage contained high level of polyunsaturated fatty acids (PUFAs), especially eicosapentaenoic acid (EPA) and docosahexaenoic acid (DHA), serving as a source of good quality fish oil for human consumption.  相似文献

A 28.5-kb plasmid, isolated from Lactococcus lactis subsp. lactis MPL56, causes complete inhibition of four lactococcal phages. Cell wall characteristics of wild-type strain MPL56 were compared with its 28.5 kb plasmid-cured, phage-sensitive derivative MPL56-22. After proteolytic enzyme treatments, adsorption of phages occurred at high levels, an example is 94.6–98.5% in MPL56 cells. Analysis of cell wall extracts of MPL56-22 by sodium dodecyl sulphate–polyacrylamide gel electrophoresis (SDS–PAGE) indicated that the only difference between strains was the 55.4 kDa band in protein patterns of MPL56. Adsorption of the four phages was completely inhibited when MPL56-22 cells were subjected to SDS, Triton-X-100, HCl and NaOH treatments. Lectins that were specific for glucose/mannose and N-acetylglucosamine did not prevent adsorption of phages in cell wall extracts of MPL 56-22. However a lectin specific for galactose (MCA; Momordica charantia ) completely inhibited adsorption of these phages in cell wall extracts of MPL56-22. HPLC patterns of cell wall carbohydrates of MPL56-22 and its HCl treated preparations showed that the most prevalent difference was the galactose on untreated MPL56-22 cell wall chromatograms.  相似文献

Listeria monocytogenes has continuously become a significant threat to consumers worldwide. The use of chemical-derived preservatives that are commonly associated with safety and nutritional issues has prompted the use of natural-based preservatives as a better alternative. Many bacterial strains including Paenibacillus polymyxa Kp10 have been reported to produce various antimicrobial proteins and compounds that are considered more natural. However, their stability in various physicochemical conditions should be examined before being applied in various types of food. In this study, the stability of four previously identified antilisterial proteins in P. polymyxa Kp10 upon exposure to several physicochemical conditions was examined. More than 80% residual antilisterial activity is conserved upon heat and proteinase K treatment. But, sensitivity to 24 h trypsin digestion has been observed. P1 and P2 proteins (histone-like DNA binding proteins HU) were sensitive to alkaline pH (pH 10-12) as compared with other proteins. More than 70% and 97% residual antilisterial activity were recovered after incubation in raw beef homogenates and simulated meat gravy model, respectively. However, the antilisterial activity of most proteins was highly compromised in chicken and salmon meat homogenates, and UHT cow milk. Inoculation of these proteins into Listeria-contaminated simulated meat gravy showed that all proteins exerted a bactericidal action against L. monocytogenes. P1 and P2 shared almost similar antilisterial activity rates, while P4 was the most potent antilisterial protein. The findings in this study could provide important preliminary data for future applications of these proteins as preservative in food products especially beef-based meat products.  相似文献

Cultivated Agaricus bisporus possess the ability to bioaccumulate seven heavy metals (Pb, Cd, Hg, Fe, Cu, Mn, and Zn). The cultivated champignon mushroom A. bisporus was grown in soil composts of 16 different compositions. An edible mushroom, A. bisporus was also cultivated on humic compost artificially fortified with the seven heavy metals at five different concentrations (0.1 mg/kg, 0.5 mg/kg, 1.0 mg/kg, 3.0 mg/kg, and 10.0 mg/kg) and on control substrate (0 mg/kg) on a dry weight basis. The method of measuring bioaccumulation was flame atomic absorption spectrophotometry.  相似文献
