Peri-catheter calcification is an unusual and previously unreported complication of central venous (CV) catheterization in infants. A 1. 9 Fr Silastic CV catheter was placed in a term infant for administration of total parenteral nutrition and antibiotics following intra-abdominal sepsis. The catheter was removed, without complication, at a later date after another septic episode. Imaging studies performed in the investigation of a possible intra-abdominal abscess revealed a cylindrical density within a clot in the inferior vena cava (IVC). The density was presumed to be a retained catheter fragment. Further investigation indicated total occlusion of the IVC. Surgical exploration of the IVC revealed only a calcified thrombus. This case represents a rare and previously unreported complication of CV catheterization in infants. Diagnosing this condition on radiographic evidence alone can be difficult. It is hoped that awareness of the potential for this complication will avoid unnecessary invasive procedures in the future. We also suggest a high level of clinical suspicion and routine Doppler ultrasound investigations to detect IVC thrombosis when indwelling CV catheters are used in infants. 相似文献

Nimonic 80A is a nickel-chrome superalloy, commonly used due to its high resistance against creep, oxidation, and temperature corrosion. This paper presents the material constitutive models of Nimonic 80A superalloy. Johnson–Cook (JC) and modified JC model is preferred among the different material constitutive equations (Zerill Armstrong, Bodner Partom, Arrhenius type) due to its accuracy in the literature. Three different types of compression tests were applied to determine the equation parameters. Firstly, quasi-static tests were performed at room temperature. These tests were conducted at 10?3, 10?2, and 10?1 s?1 strain rates. Secondly, compression tests were performed at room temperature at high strain rates (370–954 s?1) using the Split-Hopkinson pressure bar. Finally, compression tests were performed at a temperature level from 24 to 200 °C at the reference strain rate (10?3 s?1). Johnson–Cook and modified JC model parameters of Nimonic 80A were determined with the data obtained from these tests, and they were finally verified statistically. 相似文献

A mathematical model of the dynamics and heat transfer of the film embossing process has been developed. The thermal analysis around the preheat roll is determined from an unsteady, two-dimensional heat conduction equation along with appropriate boundary conditions by neglecting the curvature of the preheat roll and choosing a Lagrangian reference frame. The heat transfer occurring between the preheat roll and the embossing rolls is based on a one-dimensional analysis, including both convective and radiative effects. The deformation occurring in the nip region is analyzed for two different situations. For the case where the surface features are small in comparison with the film thickness, a modified one-dimennsional calendering analysis is given, accounting for the irregular geometry of the embossing roll surface. For the case where the polymer does not make complete contact with the surface of the engraved channel, the local deformation is determined by means of a simple one-dimensional cavity filling model. The required pressure distribution is determined by means of a simple one-dimensional cavity filling model, The required pressure distribution is determined by means of a conventional calendering analysis. Experimental studies were conducted to investigate thermal and interfacial properties of two in‐house synthesized amido‐amine‐based cationic gemini surfactants namely: dodecanoic acid [3‐({4‐[(3‐dodecanoylamino‐propyl)‐dimethyl‐amino]‐butyl}‐dimethyl‐amino)‐propyl]‐amide dibromide ( 12‐4‐12 ) and dodecanoic acid [3‐({6‐[(3‐dodecanoylamino‐propyl)‐dimethyl‐amino]‐hexyl}‐dimethyl‐amino)‐propyl]‐amide dibromide ( 12‐6‐12 ). Thermogravimetric analysis showed the excellent thermal stability of surfactants and no structural degradation was observed at temperatures up to 250 °C. The long‐term thermal stability of the surfactants was investigated with the aid of spectroscopic techniques such as nuclear magnetic resonance (NMR (1H and 13C) and Fourier transform infrared (FTIR) spectroscopy. Both surfactants were found to be thermally stable, and no changes in structure were observed after aging for 10 days at 90 °C. The interfacial tension of the surfactants was measured at three different temperatures (30, 60, and 80 °C), and the results showed a decrease in interfacial tension with increasing temperature and increasing spacer length of the surfactants. Rheological measurements were used to assess the interactions between the cationic gemini surfactant and cationic polyacrylamide. The addition of cationic surfactant reduced the viscosity and storage modulus of the polymer at low shear rate and frequency due to surfactant–polymer interactions and charge screening. The investigated surfactant–polymer system has great potential in high‐temperature carbonate reservoirs, where conventional anionic surfactants are not recommended due to high adsorption. 相似文献

Ultra-fine nanoparticles, mono-dispersed nanospheres and nanorods of Y(OH)3 and Y2O3 were successfully prepared via electrodeposition from chloride bath at different temperatures of 10, 25, 40 and 80 °C followed by heat-treatments at 600 °C in dry air atmosphere. Thermal behavior of the hydroxide samples was investigated by differential scanning calorimetry (DSC) and thermogravimetric (TG) analysis. The structural and morphological characteristics of the products were determined by X-ray diffraction (XRD), FT-IR, scanning and transmission electron microscopy (SEM and TEM). Effects of bath temperature on the mechanism of base electrogeneration and deposit formation on the cathode surface were proposed and discussed. Two-dimensional MoS2 nanoparticles (2D-nps) exhibit artificial enzyme properties that can be regulated at bio-nanointerfaces. We discovered that protein lipase is able to tune the peroxidase-like activity of MoS2 2D-nps, offering low-nanomolar, label-free detection and identification in samples with unknown identity. The inhibition of the peroxidase-like activity of the MoS2 2D-nps was demonstrated to be concentration dependent, and as low as 5 nm lipase was detected with this approach. The results were compared with those obtained with several other proteins that did not display any significant interference with the nanozyme behavior of the MoS2 2D-nps. This unique response of lipase was characterized and exploited for the successful identification of lipase in six unknown samples by using qualitative visual inspection and a quantitative statistical analysis method. The developed methodology in this approach is noteworthy for many aspects; MoS2 2D-nps are neither labeled with a signaling moiety nor modified with any ligands for signal readout. Only the intrinsic nanozyme activity of the MoS2 2D-nps is exploited for this detection approach. No analytical equipment is necessary for the visual detection of lipase. The synthesis of the water-soluble MoS2 2D-nps is low costing and can be performed in bulk scale. Exploring the properties of 2D-nps and their interactions with biological materials reveals highly interesting yet instrumental features that offer the development of novel bioanalytical approaches. 相似文献

In this study, we synthesized poly (vinyl acetate-co-divinyl benzene) microspheres with various monomer/cross-linker contents for oral/topical sustained drug release applications and determined the micromechanical properties by nanoindentation. Experiments involving the supercritical extraction of bitumen using various solvent mixtures were carried out in a 2-l batch autoclave to determine the effect of modifier type and concentration on deasphalted oil (DAO) yield and quality. Athabasca bitumen was used as the feedstock and n-pentane was used as the primary solvent for extraction. Acetone, toluene, methanol and ethyl acetate were each added to n-pentane as modifiers in different concentrations to form the solvent mixtures. Extraction temperatures and pressures were maintained at around 200 °C and 1100 psi to achieve supercritical conditions for solvents, and the solvent-to-feed volume ratio was kept around 6.5. Higher DAO yields were obtained with increasing modifier concentrations in n-pentane. DAO yields ranged from 79 to 92 wt.% of the bitumen, with n-pentane/toluene mixtures providing the highest yields and n-pentane/methanol mixtures producing the lowest. Increases in DAO yield were accompanied by higher nickel, vanadium, nitrogen, sulfur and microcarbon residue content in DAO. Moreover, it was found that n-pentane/methanol and n-pentane/acetone solvent mixtures had lower selectivities for metals impurities than the other modifiers, while n-pentane/toluene had the highest selectivities. 相似文献
