Vascular inflammation is an important factor which can promote diabetic complications. In this study, the inhibitory effects of aqueous extract from Prunella vulgaris (APV) on high glucose (HG)-induced expression of cell adhesion molecules in human umbilical vein endothelial cells (HUVEC) are reported. APV decreased HG-induced expression of intercellular adhesion molecule-1 (ICAM-1), vascular cell adhesion molecule-1 (VCAM-1), and E-selectin. APV also dose-dependently inhibited HG-induced adhesion of HL-60 monocytic cells. APV suppressed p65 NF-κB activation in HG-treated cells. APV significantly inhibited the formation of intracellular reactive oxygen species (ROS). HG-stimulated HUVEC secreted gelatinases, however, APV inhibited it. APV induced Akt phosphorylation as well as activation of heme oxygenase-1 (HO-1), eNOS, and nuclear factor E2-related factor 2 (Nrf2), which may protect vascular inflammation caused by HG. In conclusion, APV exerts anti-inflammatory effect via inhibition of ROS/NF-κB pathway by inducing HO-1 and eNOS expression mediated by Nrf2, thereby suggesting that Prunella vulgaris may be a possible therapeutic approach to the inhibition of diabetic vascular diseases.  相似文献

Ln2B2O7 (Ln=Sm, Eu, Gd and Tb; B=Zr or Ti) with pyrochlore structure was prepared by sol–gel method for the high-temperature catalytic combustion. The crystal structure of Ln2B2O7 was identified by XRD and their surface area was about 4 m2/g after calcinations at 1200 °C. Catalytic activity of methane combustion was observed for Ln2Zr2O7 series and the best catalyst was Sm2Zr2O7. Its relative reaction rate per unit surface area at 600 °C was 2 cm3/m2 min, which was twice higher than that of Mn-substituted Sr hexaaluminate. From surface analysis by XPS, the low binding energy of each Ln element of Ln2Zr2O7 compared to that of Ln2Ti2O7, gave the catalytic activity of methane combustion.  相似文献

A polystyrene (PS)/poly(butyl acrylate) (PBA) composite emulsion was produced by seeded emulsion polymerization of butyl acrylate (BA) with PS seed particles which were prepared by emulsifier‐free polymerization of styrene with potassium persulfate (KPS) under a nitrogen atmosphere at 70°C for 24 h with stirring at 60 rpm and swelled with the BA monomer in an ethanol/water medium. The structure of the PS/PBA composite particles was confirmed by the presence of the characteristic absorption band attributed to PS and PBA from FTIR spectra. The particles for pure PS and PS/PBA with a low content of the BA monomer were almost spherical and regular. As the BA monomer content was increased, the particle size of the PS/PBA composite particles became larger, and more golf ball‐like particles were produced. The surface morphology of the PS/PBA composite particles was investigated by AFM and SEM. The Tg's attributed to PS and PBA in the PS/PBA composite particles were found at 110 and ?49°C, respectively. The thermal degradation of the pure PS and PS/PBA composite particles occurred in one and two steps, respectively. With an increasing amount of PBA, the initial thermal decomposition temperature increased. The synergistic effects of boron nitride (BN) powder and die on the rheology and processability of metallocene‐catalyzed low density polyethylene (mLDPE) were investigated. The processability in the extrusion process is closely related to the interfacial properties between the polymer melts and the die wall. BN powder was added to mLDPE to reduce the friction coefficient and surface energy. Adding 0.5 wt% BN powder to mLDPE was very effective in improving the processability and the extrudate appearance. To study the effect of die surface property, three different dies were applied in capillary extrusion. One was conventional tungsten carbide (TC) die, and the others were hot‐pressed BN (hpBN) die and hot‐pressed BN composite (hpBNC) die. The applications of these BN dies were quite effective in delaying surface melt fracture (sharkskin) and postponing gross melt fracture to higher shear rate compared to the TC die. These improvements result from the fact that BN dies reduce the wall shear stress significantly and promote slip. The synergistic effect of processability could be obtained when both BN powder and hpBN die were used together.  相似文献

Evidence suggests that phytochemicals can safely modulate cancer cell biology and induce apoptosis. Here, we investigated the anti-cancer activity of morin, a flavone originally isolated from members of the Moraceae family in human leukemic cells, focusing on apoptosis. An anti-cancer effect of morin was screened with several human leukemic cell lines. U937 cells were most sensitive to morin, where it induced caspase-dependent apoptosis in a dose-dependent manner. It also induced loss of MMP (ΔΨm) along with cytochrome c release, down-regulated Bcl-2 protein, and up-regulated BAX proteins. The apoptotic activity of morin was significantly attenuated by Bcl-2 augmentation. In conclusion, morin induced caspase-dependent apoptosis through an intrinsic pathway by upregulating BAD proteins. In addition, Bcl-2 protein expression is also important in morin-induced apoptosis of U937 cells. This study provides evidence that morin might have anticancer properties in human leukemic cells.  相似文献

Characteristics of CO2 hydrogenation were investigated in a fluidized bed reactor (0.052 m IDxl.5 m in height). Coprecipitated Fe-Cu-K-Al catalyst (dρ=75–90 Μm) was used as a fluidized solid phase. It was found that the CO2 conversion decreases but the CO selectivity increases, whereas the space-time-yield attains maximum values with increasing gas velocity. The CO2 conversion has increased, but CO selectivity has decreased with increasing hydrogenation temperature, pressure or H2/CO2 ratio in the fluidized bed reactor. Also, the CO, conversion and olefin selectivity appeared to be higher in the fluidized bed reactor than those of the fixed bed reactor. Presented at the Int’l Symp. on Chem. Eng. We investigated nanoparticle generation from a natural plant extract using the aerosol technique of the nebulization-thermal drying process, and tested its usefulness for antimicrobial air filtration. Sophora flavescens Ait. ethanolic extract was prepared as an antimicrobial natural-product suspension. Suspension droplets were generated using a single-jet Collison nebulizer, passed through an active carbon absorber to remove ethanol, and mixed and dried with sheath air. For drying, natural-product particles were exposed to 200°C for ~1 s. Finally, particles were introduced into a scanning mobility particle sizer, and their size distribution and morphology were analyzed. For application of natural-product particles to antimicrobial air filtration, the nanosized particles generated were deposited continuously onto air filter medium at various times. Physical characteristics (filtration efficiency, pressure drop, and fiber morphology by scanning electron microscopy), and biological characteristics (antimicrobial tests against Staphylococcus epidermidis, Bacillus subtilis, and Escherichia coli bioaerosols) were then evaluated. We also analyzed the chemical composition of particles deposited on the filter surface. The results showed that the nanoparticles generated were spherical and demonstrated a polydisperse size distribution, ranging from several tens to several hundred nanometers. Although the filter pressure drop increased with the amount of nanoparticle on the filter, the bioaerosol filtration efficiency and antimicrobial activity were enhanced. In particular, the S. flavescens natural-product nanoparticle-deposited filters were more effective for removal of Gram-positive than Gram-negative bioaerosols. These results are promising for the implementation of this new technology for control of air quality against hazardous bioaerosols.  相似文献

Bi-component fibers typically combine multiple functions that arise from at least two distinct components. As a result, these fibers can incorporate carbon nanotubes, which impart specific and controllable mechanical, electrical, and thermal transport properties to the fibers. Using gel spinning, sheath-core polyacrylonitrile–polyacrylonitrile/carbon nanotube bi-component fibers with a diameter of less than 20 μm and carbon nanotube concentrations of up to 10 wt% were produced. In these fibers, the carbon nanotubes were well dispersed and aligned along the fiber axis. The fibers exhibited a tensile strength as high as 700 MPa, and a tensile modulus as high as 20 GPa, as well as enhanced electrical and thermal conductivities when compared to the fibers without carbon nanotubes.  相似文献

Cathode active materials with a composition of LiNi0.9Co0.1O2 were synthesized by a solid-state reaction method at 850 °C using Li2CO3, NiO or NiCO3, and CoCO3 or Co3O4, as the sources of Li, Ni, and Co, respectively. Electrochemical properties, structure, and microstructure of the synthesized LiNi0.9Co0.1O2 samples were analyzed. The curves of voltage vs. x in LixNi0.9Co0.1O2 for the first charge–discharge and the intercalated and deintercalated Li quantity Δx were studied. The destruction of unstable 3b sites and phase transitions were discussed from the first and second charge–discharge curves of voltage vs. x in LixNi0.9Co0.1O2. The LiNi0.9Co0.1O2 sample synthesized from Li2CO3, NiO, and Co3O4 had the largest first discharge capacity (151 mA h/g), with a discharge capacity deterioration rate of −0.8 mA h/g/cycle (that is, a discharge capacity increasing 0.8 mA h/g per cycle).  相似文献
