In this work, a series of multi-constituent nonwovens possessing multi-modal fiber diameter distribution was prepared and the air permeability of such nonwoven structures was measured. This approach was extended to bi-constituent nonwovens consisting of fibers with bi-modal diameter distribution and mono-constituent nonwovens composed of fibers with mono-modal diameter distribution. The multi-constituent nonwovens exhibited highest air permeability, followed by the bi- and mono-constituent nonwovens for the same mean fiber diameter. This was explained in terms of the mean pore diameter of the multi-, bi-, and mono-constituent nonwoven structures. An analytical expression of mean fiber diameter of multi-constituent nonwoven structures was derived. The square of the mean fiber diameter in the multi-constituent nonwovens was found to be the harmonic mean of the volume-weighted square of the mean fiber diameter of the individual constituents. The mean fiber diameter coupled with Kozeny–Carman equation was found to predict the air permeability of the multi-, bi-, and mono-constituent nonwovens very well. ABSTRACTA new compact and wide-band erbium-doped fibre amplifier (EDFA) was demonstrated by combining Hafnia-bismuth Erbium co-doped fibre (HB-EDF) and zirconia–yttria–aluminum Erbium co-doped fibre (Zr-EDF) as a hybrid gain medium, in parallel double-pass configuration. The proposed amplifier comprises a 0.5?m long HB-EDF and 4?m long Zr-EDF optimized for C- and L-band operations, respectively. The HB-EDF and Zr-EDF has erbium ion concentration of 12,500?ppm and 2800?ppm, respectively. At -10 dBm input signal, a wide-band flat gain of 15.7?dB is achieved with gain fluctuation of less than 1.5?dB within a wavelength region from 1525 to 1600?nm. Compared to same configuration of HB-EDF and Zr-EDF amplifiers which are using two pieces of HB-EDF and Zr-EDF, respectively with the same total amount of erbium ions, the proposed EDFA with hybrid gain medium provides even better performances in term of flat gain, bandwidth and noise figure. 相似文献

A novel scheme for enhancing the bandwidth of optical parametric amplification using asymmetric Bragg reflection waveguides is presented. The unique dispersion characteristics exhibited by the Bragg reflection waveguides are exploited for countering the rapidly falling signal gain as one moves away from the phase-matching wavelength. The role of the periodic cladding on the gain and bandwidth of optical parametric amplification in a lithium niobate based Bragg reflection waveguide is analysed. Such an idea could be used in any nonlinear up conversion or down conversion process for enhancing the bandwidth significantly and for easing fabrication tolerances. 相似文献

The polycrystalline sample of (Bi0.8Gd0.2)FeO3 was prepared by a high-temperature solid-state reaction technique. Preliminary X-ray structural analysis of the sample confirms the formation of the desired compound with rhombohedral phase. The scanning electron micrograph of the sample showed uniform distribution of the plate- and rod-shaped grains. Studies of dielectric and electrical properties of the material were investigated within a wide range of temperature (25–400 °C) and frequency (1 kHz–1 MHz) using complex impedance spectroscopic method. The observation of hysteresis loop of the material confirmed that the material has a ferroelectric property at room temperature. The ac conductivity suggests that the sample obey Jonscher’s universal power law. The dc conductivity follows Arrhenius equation. Detailed studies of ac and dc conductivity show a negative temperature coefficient of resistance (NTCR) behavior of the sample. 相似文献

Solid solutions of BiFeO3 (BFO) and NaNbO3 [i.e., (Bi1?xNax) (Fe1?xNbx)O3] for x = 0.1, 0.2, 0.3 were prepared by a mixed-oxide method. X-ray diffraction analysis confirms the formation of a single-phase system within a certain limit of x, and indicates that with increase in concentration of NaNbO3 there is structural transformation of BFO from the rhombohedral to the tetragonal phase. The dielectric constant and loss-tangent of samples increase with rise in temperature. It is found that with increase of concentration of NaNbO3 in the solid solution, tangent loss of BFO is greatly reduced that can be useful for some industrial applications. The appearance of hysteresis loops of the samples at room temperature confirms the ferroelectric properties of the materials. As the electrical conductivity of the above system increases with rise in temperature, it follows the Arrhenius relation. The frequency and temperature dependence of conductivity of the above system obeys Joncher’s universal power law. Some voltage is induced with the application of magnetic field confirming the existence of multiferroics properties in the materials.
