An indigenously prepared, steam activated and chemically modified carbon from husk and pods of Moringa oleifera (M. oleifera), an agricultural waste, was comparatively examined as an adsorbent for the removal of lead from aqueous solutions. Studies were conducted as a function of contact time, initial metal concentration, dose of adsorbent, agitation speed, particle size and pH. Maximum uptake capacities were found to be, 98.89, 96.58, 91.8, 88.63, 79.43% for cetyltrimethyl ammonium bromide (CTAB), phosphoric, sulfuric, hydrochloric acid treated and untreated carbon adsorbents, respectively. Bangham, pseudo-first- and second-order, intra-particle diffusion equations were implemented to express the sorption mechanism by utilized adsorbents. Adsorption rate of lead ions was found to be considerably faster for chemically modified adsorbents than unmodified. The results of adsorption were fitted to both the Langmuir and Freundlich models. Satisfactory agreement between the metal uptake capacities by the adsorbents at different time intervals was expressed by the correlation coefficient (R(2)). Cassia fistula is a fast-growing, medium-sized, deciduous tree which is now widely cultivated worldwide as an ornamental tree for its beautiful showy yellow flowers. Methods are required to reuse fallen leaves, branches, stem bark and pods when they start getting all over lawn. This investigation studies the use of these non-useful parts of C. fistula as naturally occurring biosorbent for the batch removal of Ni(II) in a well stirred system under different experimental conditions. The data showed that the maximum pH (pHmax) for efficient sorption of Ni(II) was 6 at which evaluated biosorbent dosage, biosorbent particle size, initial concentrations of Ni(II) and sorption time were 0.1 g/100 mL, <0.255 mm, up to 200 mg/L and 720 min, respectively. The experimental results were analyzed in terms of Langmuir and Freundlich isotherms. The Langmuir isotherm model fitted well to data of Ni(II) biosorption by C. fistula biomass as compared to the model of Freundlich. The kinetic studies showed that the sorption rates could be described better by a second order expression than by a more commonly applied Lagergren equation. Excimer laser micromachining of thin metal films with a sacrificial polymer coating is a novel technique that produces features with smooth edges. Using this technique, oblique microchannels are fabricated by workpiece dragging and using a square laser spot, where the axis of traverse of the workpiece is not parallel to the edges of the square laser spot. The microchannels have serrated edges that are particular to the shape of the mask producing the spot. The edge roughness of the channels, machined with a square laser spot of side 100 μm, is found to be most affected by the fluence–spot overlap interaction, and the channel width by spot-overlap and the angle of tilt of the traversed path. Polymer coated metal films underwent close to ideal machining, aided by the clamping action of the polymer layer. Through this technique of machining post polymer coating, the edge roughnesses of the microchannels have been curtailed to less than 10 μm, and channel widths to 150 μm. This paper reports the effects of sintering temperature on structure, particle size and conductivity of electrodes (Sn0.2Zn0.8Fe0.2O & Sn0.8Zn0.2Fe0.2O). The electrode material was prepared by the chemical method combining a solid state reaction. Structural analyses were performed using X-ray diffraction and scanning electron microscopy. The particle size of the material obtained using Scherrer's formula was 50–60 nm and the nanostructure's surface was studied using electrochemical characterisations tools. Electrical conductivity was determined using the 4-probe DC method, which was compared with the 4-probe AC method. These results suggest a promising substitute for the conventional electrodes of solid oxide fuel cells (SOFCs). It is known that a sintering temperature above 1000 °C causes an increase in density and a reduction of porosity. Therefore, we optimised the sintering temperature at 1000 °C and obtained electrical conductivity of about 5 S cm−1. The present article focuses on the effect of different combinations of metal mordants on color characteristics and fastness properties of natural dye extracted from Juglan regia L bark powder. The influence of different types of mordant combinations such as alum + ferrous sulphate, alum + stannous chloride, ferrous sulphate + stannous chloride, and alum + ferrous sulphate + stannous chloride on color parameters has been investigated in terms of CIELab (L*, a*, b*, c*, and h°) and K/S values. The fastness properties with respect to light, washing, and crocking of developed shades were determined according to ISO and AATCC test methods. Based on the experimental results, it has been found that 96 shades with novel and fashionable hues were produced by the use of these metal salt combinations. It was also found that all mordanted samples had satisfactory light and wash fastness ratings. Dry rub fastness was found relatively better than wet rub fastness. 相似文献

In the present article, the heat transfer rate and the fluid flow of a micropolar fluid along with temperature‐dependent transport properties are scrutinized in the presence of heat generation. The variability in transport properties leads to a rise in the heat transfer and decreases the skin friction. Furthermore, Fourier's heat flux model is implemented in the analysis of heat transfer, employing a suitable transformation to convert the flow model into nonlinear ordinary differential equations. Numerical solutions are obtained by using the shooting method/bvp4c technique. Physical quantities of interest, such as local skin friction and Nusselt number, are discussed and computed. Skin friction decreases with the micropolar parameter but the Nusselt number shows the opposite behavior for the micropolar parameter. 相似文献
