In recent years a great deal of attention is focussed on the efficient utilization of energy resources with minimum heat loss. There is a growing interest on second law analysis to minimize the entropy generation in various thermal units and thereby to improve and optimize the design and performance. In the present work, a waste heat recovery steam generator is considered, which consists of an economizer, an evaporator and a super heater. The unit produces superheated steam by absorbing heat from the hot flue gases. A general equation for the entropy generation has been proposed, which incorporates all the irreversibilities associated with the process. By using suitable non-dimensional operating parameters, an equation for entropy generation number is derived. The effect of various non-dimensional operating parameters, on the entropy generation number are investigated. The role of gas specific heat, non-dimensional inlet gas temperature difference ratio (τ), heat exchanger unit sizes (NTUB, NTUS, NTUE) on entropy generation number are also reported. The results will help to understand the influence of different non-dimensional operating parameters on entropy generation number, which in turn will be useful to optimize the performance of the unit. 相似文献

An experimental investigation has been made to study the effect of pressure and other relevant operating parameters on bed hydrodynamics and bed-to-wall heat transfer in a pressurized circulating fluidized bed (PCFB) riser column of 37.5 mm internal diameter and 1940 mm height. The experiments have been conducted with and without bed material for the consideration of frictional pressure drop due to gas density at elevated pressures. The pressure drop measured without sand particles is assumed as the pressure drop due to gas density for the calculation of bed voidage and suspension density profiles. The specially designed heat transfer probe is used to measure the bed-to-wall heat transfer coefficient. The experimental results have been compared with the published literature and good agreement has been observed. The axial bed voidage is less in the bottom zone of the riser column and is increasing along the height of the bed. With the increase in system pressure, the bed voidage is found to be increasing in the bottom zone and decreasing in the top zone. The heat transfer coefficient increases with the increase in system pressure as well as with the gas superficial velocity. The heat transfer coefficient is also observed to be increasing with the increase in average suspension density. 相似文献

A textured calcium phosphate based bio-ceramic coating was synthesized by continuous wave Nd:YAG laser induced direct melting
of hydroxyapatite precursor on Ti–6Al–4V substrate. Two different micro-textured patterns (100 μm and 200 μm line spacing)
of Ca–P based phases were fabricated by this technique to understand the alignment and focal adhesion of the bone forming
cells on these surfaces. X-ray diffraction studies of the coated samples indicated the presence of CaTiO3, α-Ca3(PO4)2, Ca(OH)2, TiO2 (anatase) and TiO2 (rutile) phases as a result of the intermixing between the precursor and substrate material during laser processing. A two
dimensional elemental mapping of the cross-section of the coated samples exhibited the presence of higher phosphorous concentration
within the coating and a thin layer of calcium concentration only at the top of the coating. Improved in vitro bioactivity

Theoretical investigations on the micellization of mixtures of (i) amino acid-based anionic surfactants [AAS: N-dodecyl derivatives of aminomalonate, −aspartate, and -glutamate] and (ii) hexadecyltrimethylammonium bromide (HTAB), were carried out at different mole ratios. Variation in the theoretical values of critical micelle concentration (CMC), mole fraction of surfactants in the micellar phase (X), at the interface (Xσ), interaction parameters at the bulk/interface (βR/βσ), ideality/nonideality of the mixing processes, and activity coefficients (f) were evaluated using Rubingh, Rosen, Motomora, and Sarmoria-Puvvada-Blankschtein models. CMC values significantly deviate from the theroretically calculated values, indicating associative interaction. With increasing mole fraction of AAS (αAAS), the magnitude of the (βR/βσ) values gradually decreased, considered to attributable to hydrophobic interactions. With increasing αAAS, the micellar mole fraction of HTAB (X2) decreased insignificantly and X2 values were higher than those compared to AAS for all combinations, due to the dominance of HTAB in micelles. Micellar mole fraction at the ideal state of AAS () differed from micellar mole fraction of AAS (X1), indicating nonideality in the mixed micellization process. Gibbs free energy of micellization ( ∆Gm ) values are more negative than the free energy of micellization for ideal mixing (), indicating the micellization process is spontaneous. With increasing αAAS, the enthalpy of micellization (ΔHm) and entropy of micellization (ΔSm) values gradually increased, which indicates micellization is exothermic. The different physicochemical parameters of the mixed micelles are correlated with the variation in the spacer length between the two carboxylate groups of AAS. 相似文献

Recent demand for thermoelectric materials for power harvesting from automobile and industrial waste heat requires oxide materials because of their potential advantages over intermetallic alloys in terms of chemical and thermal stability at high temperatures. Achievement of thermoelectric figure of merit equivalent to unity (ZT ≈ 1) for transition-metal oxides necessitates a second look at the fundamental theory on the basis of the structure–property relationship giving rise to electron correlation accompanied by spin fluctuation. Promising transition-metal oxides based on wide-bandgap semiconductors, perovskite and layered oxides have been studied as potential candidate n- and p-type materials. This paper reviews the correlation between the crystal structure and thermoelectric properties of transition-metal oxides. The crystal-site-dependent electronic configuration and spin degeneracy to control the thermopower and electron–phonon interaction leading to polaron hopping to control electrical conductivity is discussed. Crystal structure tailoring leading to phonon scattering at interfaces and nanograin domains to achieve low thermal conductivity is also highlighted. 相似文献

The essential role of G-protein coupled receptors (GPCRs) in tumor growth is recognized, yet a GPCR based drug in cancer is rare. Understanding the molecular path of a tumor driver gene may lead to the design and development of an effective drug. For example, in members of protease-activated receptor (PAR) family (e.g., PAR1 and PAR2), a novel PH-binding motif is allocated as critical for tumor growth. Animal models have indicated the generation of large tumors in the presence of PAR1 or PAR2 oncogenes. These tumors showed effective inhibition when the PH-binding motif was either modified or were inhibited by a specific inhibitor targeted to the PH-binding motif. In the second part of the review we discuss several aspects of some cardinal GPCRs in tumor angiogenesis. 相似文献
