Abstract

Combustion sources have been shown to directly emit particles smaller than 10?nm. The emission of 1-3?nm particles from biofuel or fossil fuel cookstoves has not been studied previously, nor have the radiative impacts of these emissions been investigated. In this work, emissions (number of particles) were measured during a water boiling test performed on five different cookstoves (three-stone fire, rocket elbow, gasifier, charcoal, and liquified petroleum gas [LPG]) for particle diameters between ~1 and ~1000?nm. We found significant emissions of particles smaller than 10?nm for all cookstoves (>5?×?1015 # kg-fuel?1). Furthermore, cleaner (e.g., LPG) cookstoves emitted a larger fraction of sub-10?nm particles (relative to the total particle counts) than traditional cookstoves (e.g., three-stone fire). Simulations performed with the global chemical transport model GEOS-Chem-TOMAS that were informed by emissions data from this work suggested that sub-10?nm particles were unlikely to significantly influence number concentrations of particles with diameters larger than 80?nm that can serve as cloud condensation nuclei (CCN) (<0.3%, globally averaged) or alter the cloud-albedo indirect effect (absolute value <0.005?W m?2, globally averaged). The largest, but still relatively minor, localized changes in CCN-relevant concentrations (<10%) and the cloud-albedo indirect effect (absolute value <0.5?W m?2) were found in large biofuel combustion source regions (e.g., Brazil, Tanzania, Southeast Asia) and in the Southern Ocean. Enhanced coagulation-related losses of these sub-10?nm particles at sub-grid scales will tend to further reduce their impact on particle number concentrations and the aerosol indirect effect, although they might still be of relevance for human health.

A new numerical method for calculating the singularity orders of V‐notches in Reissner's plate is proposed in this paper. By introducing the asymptotic expansion of the generalised displacement field at the notch tip into the equilibrium equations of a plate, a set of characteristic ordinary differential equations with respect to the singularity order are established. In addition, by adopting the variable substitution technique, the obtained non‐linear characteristic equations are transformed into linear ones, which are solved by the interpolating matrix method. The singularity orders of moments and shear forces can be obtained simultaneously and can be distinguished from the corresponding characteristic angular functions conveniently. Four types of boundary conditions are proposed to investigate the influence of boundary conditions on the singularity order values. The effect of the Poisson's ratio on the singularity orders of the V‐notch in Reissner's plate is discussed. The present method is versatile for the singularity analysis of single material V‐notches and bi‐material V‐notches, and can be easily extended to multi‐material V‐notches.  相似文献

Many mould strains, in particular Aspergillus and/or Penicillium, are able to develop on olive and produce ochratoxin A (OTA) and/or citrinin (CIT) and/or aflatoxin B (AFB) after harvest, during drying and storage of olives. The development of fungi on olives is responsible for the reduction of nutritional quality of olive because they can disturb the synthesis of the fatty acids. OTA, CIT and AFB are particularly dangerous for health, inducing cancer of urinary tracts or liver carcinoma. In this study, ten olive samples bought at retailer and at supermarket in Morocco were analyzed for their OTA, CIT and AFB contents. These three mycotoxins were extracted simultaneously by a method based on solvent partition validated in-house, then separated by HPLC coupled to a fluorescence detector. All olive samples contain OTA ranging from LOQ to 1.02 microg/kg. Respectively, 50 and 25% from retailer and supermarket samples were contaminated by more than 0.65 microg/kg. In addition, 80% of olive samples contained CIT above LOD, and 100% of olive tested contained AFB above 0.5 microg/kg. As simultaneous presence of these toxins increases toxic risks, it is thus essential to have a good control of the conservation of olives after harvest.  相似文献

In this work, thermal catalytic systems were used for CO2 reduction in the presence of H2S. The thermal reduction products were mainly methane and hydrogen, traces of ethane were also detected. The efficiency of CdSe in production of methane thermally was found to be higher than CdTe and this was even higher than CdS. The kinetics of the chemical reactions catalyzed were utilized to elucidate the reaction mechanisms of the carbon dioxide methanation processes.  相似文献

The Belavkin filter for the H-P Schrödinger equation is derived when the measurement process consists of a mixture of quantum Brownian motions and conservation/Poisson process. Higher-order powers of the measurement noise differentials appear in the Belavkin dynamics. For simulation, we use a second-order truncation. Control of the Belavkin filtered state by infinitesimal unitary operators is achieved in order to reduce the noise effects in the Belavkin filter equation. This is carried out along the lines of Luc Bouten. Various optimization criteria for control are described like state tracking and Lindblad noise removal.  相似文献

    This paper deals with real-time implementation of visual-motor control of a 7 degree of freedom (DOF) robot manipulator using self-organized map (SOM) based learning approach. The robot manipulator considered here is a 7 DOF PowerCube manipulator from Amtec Robotics. The primary objective is to reach a target point in the task space using only a single step movement from any arbitrary initial configuration of the robot manipulator. A new clustering algorithm using Kohonen SOM lattice has been proposed that maintains the fidelity of training data. Two different approaches have been proposed to find an inverse kinematic solution without using any orientation feedback. In the first approach, the inverse Jacobian matrices are learnt from the training data using function decomposition. It is shown that function decomposition leads to significant improvement in accuracy of inverse kinematic solution. In the second approach, a concept called sub-clustering in configuration space is suggested to provide multiple solutions for the inverse kinematic problem. Redundancy is resolved at position level using several criteria. A redundant manipulator is dexterous owing to the availability of multiple configurations for a given end-effector position. However, existing visual motor coordination schemes provide only one inverse kinematic solution for every target position even when the manipulator is kinematically redundant. Thus, the second approach provides a learning architecture that can capture redundancy from the training data. The training data are generated using explicit kinematic model of the combined robot manipulator and camera configuration. The training is carried out off-line and the trained network is used on-line to compute the joint angle vector to reach a target position in a single step only. The accuracy attained is better than the current state of art.  相似文献

    A hybrid convolutional neural network (CNN)-based model is proposed in the article for accurate detection of COVID-19, pneumonia, and normal patients using chest X-ray images. The input images are first pre-processed to tackle problems associated with the formation of the dataset from different sources, image quality issues, and imbalances in the dataset. The literature suggests that several abnormalities can be found with limited medical image datasets by using transfer learning. Hence, various pre-trained CNN models: VGG-19, InceptionV3, MobileNetV2, and DenseNet are adopted in the present work. Finally, with the help of these models, four hybrid models: VID (VGG-19, Inception, and DenseNet), VMI(VGG-19, MobileNet, and Inception), VMD (VGG-19, MobileNet, and DenseNet), and IMD(Inception, MobileNet, and DenseNet) are proposed. The model outcome is also tested using five-fold cross-validation. The best-performing hybrid model is the VMD model with an overall testing accuracy of 97.3%. Thus, a new hybrid model architecture is presented in the work that combines three individual base CNN models in a parallel configuration to counterbalance the shortcomings of individual models. The experimentation result reveals that the proposed hybrid model outperforms most of the previously suggested models. This model can also be used in the identification of diseases, especially in rural areas where limited laboratory facilities are available.  相似文献

    Recolonization by native species following reintroduction can affect resident species through a variety of processes. We examined the effects of natural recolonization by coho salmon Oncorhynchus kisutch on sculpin (Cottus rhotus and Cottus gulosus), small benthic fishes, in a small forest stream in Western Washington, USA. Provision fish passage around a small dam allowed coho access to habitat, which had been inaccessible for over 100 years. We found that density (g m?2 and number m?2) was unchanged, and body condition (the slope of the relationship between length and weight) of sculpin tended to increase from before relative to a 5‐year period following recolonization. The proportion of sculpin comprising the total fish assemblage decreased after coho colonization relative to before but remained stable for a 5‐year period after coho reintroduction, whereas coho density increased over fivefold. Additionally, we used Akaike's information criteria to evaluate the relative importance of physical and biological variables to predict sculpin density in pool habitats during the initial coho recolonization period. Physical microhabitat variables had little support for predicting sculpin density, whereas there was a significant support for stream temperature; cutthroat trout (Oncorhynchus clarkii) density and year were the most important predictors of sculpin density. Coho density was not significant in any model. Our results indicate coho introduction and subsequent recolonization have to date had minimal individual or population level effects on sculpin, therefore demonstrating that species reintroductions into their native range can have no measurable effect on resident organisms.
