Nextel? 610 alumina fibers and alumina‐YAG (yttrium‐aluminum garnet) matrices were used to make oxide‐oxide ceramic matrix composites (CMCs) with and without monazite (LaPO4) fiber‐matrix interfaces. Twelve sequential aluminum oxychloride (AlOCl) infiltrations with 1 hour heat treatments at 1100°C and a final 1 hour heat treatment at 1200°C were used for matrix densification. This matrix processing sequence severely degraded CMC mechanical properties. CMC tensile strengths and interlaminar tensile (ILT) strengths were less than 10 MPa and 1 MPa, respectively. Axial fracture of Nextel? 610 fibers was observed after ILT testing, highlighting the extreme degradation of fiber strength. Extensive characterization was done to attempt to determine the responsible degradation mechanisms. Changes in Nextel? 610 fiber microstructure after CMC processing were characterized by optical microscopy, SEM, and extensively by TEM. In AlOCl degraded fibers, grain boundaries near the fiber surface were wetted with a glass that contained Y2O3/SiO2 or Y2O3/La2O3/P2O5/SiO2, and near‐surface pores were partially filled with Al2O3. This glass must also contain some Al2O3 and initially some chlorine. AlOCl decomposition products were predicted using the FactSage® Thermochemical code, and were characterized by mass spectrometry. Effects of AlOCl precursors on monazite coated and uncoated Nextel? 610 fibers tow and filament strength were evaluated. A mechanism for the severe degradation of the oxide‐oxide CMCs and Nextel? 610 fibers that involves subcritical crack growth promoted by release of chlorine containing species during breakdown of intergranular glasses in an anhydrous environment is proposed. 相似文献

The effect of pH on the competition between polyphosphate-accumulating organisms and glycogen-accumulating organisms 总被引:24,自引:0,他引:24
In enhanced biological phosphorus removal (EBPR) processes, glycogen-accumulating organisms (GAOs) may compete with polyphosphate-accumulating organisms (PAOs) for the often-limited carbon substrates, potentially resulting in disturbances to phosphorus removal. A detailed investigation of the effect of pH on the competition between PAOs and GAOs is reported in this study. The results show that a high external pH ( approximately 8) provided PAOs with an advantage over GAOs in EBPR systems. The phosphorus removal performance improved due to a population shift favouring PAOs over GAOs, which was shown through both chemical and microbiological methods. Two lab-scale reactors fed with propionate as the carbon source were subjected to an increase in pH from 7 to 8. The phosphorus removal and PAO population (as measured by quantitative fluorescence in situ hybridisation analysis of "Candidatus Accumulibacter phosphatis") increased in each system, where the PAOs appeared to out-compete a group of Alphaproteobacteria GAOs. A considerable improvement in the P removal was also observed in an acetate fed reactor, where the GAO population (primarily "Candidatus Competibacter phosphatis") decreased substantially after a similar increase in the pH. The results from this study suggest that pH could be used as a control parameter to reduce the undesirable proliferation of GAOs and improve phosphorus removal in EBPR systems. 相似文献

Variation of bulk properties of anaerobic granules with wastewater type 总被引:11,自引:0,他引:11
Development of a granular sludge with high strength, high biological activity and a narrow settling distribution is necessary for optimal operation of high-rate upflow anaerobic treatment systems. Several studies have compared granules produced from different wastewaters but these have largely been from laboratory-fed reactors or compared granules from full-scale reactors fed similar wastewater types. Though two authors have commented on the inferiority of granules produced by a protein-based feed, the properties of these granules have not been characterised. In this paper, granules from full-scale reactors treating fruit and vegetable cannery effluent, two brewery effluents and a pig abattoir (slaughterhouse) were compared in terms of basic composition, size distribution, density, settling velocity, shear strength, and EPS content. The results supported previous qualitative observations by other researchers that indicate granule properties depend more on wastewater type rather than reactor design or operating conditions such as pre-acidification level. The cannery-fed granules had excellent shear strength, settling distribution and density. Granules from the two brewery-fed reactors had statistically the same bulk properties, which were still acceptable for upflow applications. In this report, we conducted a secondary analysis of the Treatment of SSRI-Resistant Depression in Adolescents (TORDIA) study to explore the impact of specific cognitive–behavioral therapy (CBT) treatment components on outcome. In TORDIA, 334 youths (ages 12 to 18 years) with major depressive disorder who had failed to respond to an adequate course of selective serotonin reuptake inhibitor (SSRI) medication were randomized to a medication switch (either to an alternative SSRI or venlafaxine) with or without 12 weeks of adjunctive CBT. Participants who had more than 9 CBT sessions were 2.5 times more likely to have adequate treatment response than those who had 9 or fewer sessions. CBT participants who received problem-solving and social skills treatment components, controlling for number of sessions and other confounding variables, were 2.3 and 2.6 times, respectively, more likely to have a positive response. These preliminary findings underscore the importance of receiving an adequate number of sessions to attain an adequate clinical response. Finally, social skills and problem solving may be active elements in CBT for adolescent depression and should be considered in treatment by those working with seriously depressed youths. A thermomechanical model is presented for predicting the time-dependent deflections of cellular FRP slab elements subjected to mechanical loading and fire from one side. The model comprises temperature-dependent mechanical property sub-models for the Young’s modulus, viscosity and coefficient of thermal expansion. Two different thermal boundary conditions were investigated: with and without liquid-cooling of the slab elements in the cells. A finite difference method was used to calculate the deflection at each time step. Deflections resulting from stiffness degradation due to glass transition and decomposition of the resin dominated over those resulting from viscosity and thermal expansion. The predicted total deflections compared well with the measured results over a test period of up to 2 h. The failure mode of the non-cooled specimen could be explained. 相似文献

The Mars Odyssey Gamma Ray Spectrometer has yielded planetary data of global extent. Such remote-sensing missions usually
assign the value of a continuous-valued geospatial attribute to a uniform latitude-longitude grid of bins. Typical attributes
include elemental-mass fraction, areal fraction of a mineral type, areal fraction of rocks, thermal inertia, etc. The fineness
of the grid is chosen according to the spatial resolution of the orbiter and concomitant data processing. We describe methods
to maximize the information extracted from both bin and regional data. Rigorous use of statistical parameters and related
methods for inter- and intra- regional comparisons are also discussed. While we discuss results from the Mars Odyssey mission,
the techniques we describe are applicable whenever continuous-valued attributes of a planet’s surface are characterized with
bins and regions. Our goal is to distill the simplest statistical methods for regional comparisons that would be intuitively

Creating linguistic summaries of data has been a goal of the artificial and computational intelligence communities for many years. Summaries of written text have garnered the most attention. More recently, creating summaries of imagery and other sensed data has become important as a means of compressing large amounts of data and communicating with humans. In this paper, we consider the question of comparing sets of summaries generated from sensed data. In an earlier work, we developed a metric between individual protoform‐based summaries; and here, as a next step, we propose aggregation methods to fuse these individual distances. The impacts of the availability of low-carbon technologies on the regional distribution of mitigation costs are analyzed in a global multi-regional integrated assessment model. Three effects on regional consumption losses are distinguished: domestic measures, trade of fossil energy carriers and trade of emission permits. Key results are: (i) GDP losses and a redirection of investments in the energy system towards capital-intensive technologies are major contributions to regional consumption losses. (ii) A devaluation of tradable fossil energy endowments contributes largely to the mitigation costs of fossil fuel exporters. (iii) In case of reduced availability of low-carbon technologies, the permit market volume and associated monetary redistributions increase. The results suggest that the availability of a broad portfolio of low-carbon technologies could facilitate negotiations on the permit allocation scheme in a global cap-and-trade system. 相似文献
