Boron nitride (BN) nanohorns were synthesized by an arc-melting method, and atomic structure models for BN nanohorns with tetragonal BN rings were proposed from high-resolution electron microscopy. Stability and electronic structures of the BN nanohorns were investigated by molecular orbital/mechanics calculations. The calculation showed that multiwalled BN nanohorns would be stabilized by stacking of BN nanohorns. The energy gap of BN nanohorn was calculated to be 0.8 eV, which is lower compared to those of BN clusters and nanotubes.  相似文献

We investigated the potential role of intercellular-adhesion molecule-1 (ICAM-1) in allergen-induced bronchial hyperresponsiveness (BHR) and inflammation in sensitised Brown-Norway rats. Rats were sensitised with ovalbumin (OA) intraperitoneally and 21 days later they were either exposed to 0.9% NaCl or 1% OA aerosol for 15 min. Rats exposed to OA aerosol were pretreated either with ICAM-1 antibody (3 mg/kg i.p. and i.v., 45 min prior to OA exposure) or with the diluent for the antibody. Eighteen to twenty-four hours after OA or 0.9% NaCl exposure, rats were anaesthetised, tracheostomised and mechanically ventilated, and airway responsiveness to acetylcholine (ACh) aerosol was measured as the provocative concentration of ACh needed to increase pulmorary resistance by 100% (PC100). Mean -log PC100 was increased in rats exposed to OA but pretreated with diluent (2.75 +/- 0.06) compared to rats treated with ICAM-1 antibody (2.51 +/- 0.08; < 0.05). However, only the former group showed significantly higher mean -log PC100 compared to the sensitised group exposed to 0.9% NaCl alone (2.22 +/- 0.12; p < 0.01). There was a significant increase in eosinophil and lymphocyte counts in bronchoalveolar lavage fluid at 24 h in rats pretreated with diluent compared to saline exposed rats. However, in ICAM-1 antibody-pretreated rats, eosinophil and lymphocyte counts were significantly different from diluent-treated ones. We conclude that ICAM-1 antibody inhibits BHR without reducing the influx of inflammatory cells.  相似文献

A 22-year-old woman diagnosed as AML (M3) received myeloablative chemotherapy followed by autologous peripheral stem cell transplantation (PBSCT). Rapid hematopoietic reconstitution occurred. By day 10, the neutrophil count was > 0.5 x 10(9)/l and the platelet count > 50 x 10(9)/l. The platelet count was 145 x 10(9)/l on day 20. Purpura developed on the anterior chest and legs on day 50, at which time the platelet count fell to 17 x 10(9)/l. The BM was hypocellular with an increase in megakaryocytes. Platelet-associated IgG (PAIgG) was 88.1 ng/10(7) platelets (normal range 9-25 ng/10(7)); a diagnosis of idiopathic thrombocytopenic purpura (ITP) was made. Prednisolone administration led to an increase in the platelet count and a decrease in PAIgG. Analysis of lymphocyte subsets revealed an increased number of CD3+ gamma/delta T cells. It is postulated that the thrombocytopenia in this case was due to an autoimmune mechanism such as ITP.  相似文献

The electronic structures of lanthunum (La) incorporated hafnium (Hf)-based oxides (HfLaO) and their silicate (HfLaSiO) films were investigated by the Near Edge X-ray Absorption Fine Structure (NEXAFS) technique. The oxygen (O) K-edge spectra, which reflected the hybridized Hf 5d state with the O 2p orbital, were found to reveal features of the unoccupied state of the metal oxides, as well as the conduction-band edge. We also found that, while La incorporation into the Hf-based oxides simply changed the features of the conduction-band structure, subsequent thermal annealing of the La-incorporated films led to a conduction-band edge shift due to an interface silicate reaction and/or local bond rearrangement depending on the La concentration and annealing temperature. The impact of La incorporation into the Hf-based high-k materials on the electronic structure is discussed by taking into account the intrinsic nature of these metal oxides.  相似文献

We studied the formation dynamics of low-molecular-weight organic semiconducting molecules of N,N′-bis[4-[bis(3-methylphenyl)amino]phenyl]-N,N′-diphenylbenzidine (DNTPD) during solvent evaporation. We dropped the DNTPD–toluene solution on a glass substrate and performed in situ measurements of mass, temperature, scattered light intensity, and photoluminescence (PL). We found that both light scattering and PL measurements were able to detect the onset of solid film formation from dissolved organic semiconducting materials. When a solid thin film forms during drying, sudden changes in scattered light and PL are observed. Furthermore, we also found that a period of time after the onset was necessary for completion of thin solid film formation. Observations and in situ PL measurement during thin-film formation by spin coating revealed that this period of time affected the optical properties of the film. This result indicates that quantitative information on the film formation process is quite important to obtain thin films with desired properties by coating and drying. Our in situ measurements were simple and practical approaches to monitor the formation dynamics of organic thin films during drying.  相似文献

Tauopathies are neurodegenerative diseases characterized by abnormal metabolism of misfolded tau proteins and are progressive. Pathological phosphorylation of tau occurs in the retinal ganglion cells (RGCs) after optic nerve injuries. Cyclin-dependent kinase-5 (Cdk5) causes hyperphosphorylation of tau. To determine the roles played by Cdk5 in retinal degeneration, roscovitine, a Cdk5 inhibitor, was injected intravitreally after optic nerve crush (ONC). The neuroprotective effect of roscovitine was determined by the number of Tuj-1-stained RGCs on day 7. The change in the levels of phosphorylated tau, calpain-1, and cleaved α-fodrin was determined by immunoblots on day 3. The expression of P35/P25, a Cdk5 activator, in the RGCs was determined by immunohistochemistry. The results showed that roscovitine reduced the level of phosphorylated tau by 3.5- to 1.6-fold. Calpain-1 (2.1-fold) and cleaved α-fodrin (1.5-fold) were increased on day 3, suggesting that the calpain signaling pathway was activated. P35/P25 was accumulated in the RGCs that were poorly stained by Tuj-1. Calpain inhibition also reduced the increase in phosphorylated tau. The number of RGCs decreased from 2191 ± 178 (sham) to 1216 ± 122 cells/mm2 on day 7, and roscovitine preserved the level at 1622 ± 130 cells/mm2. We conclude that the calpain-mediated activation of Cdk5 is associated with the pathologic phosphorylation of tau.  相似文献

A method for the chemical recycling of poly(carbonate) (PC) plastic wastes in the forms of bisphenol A (BPA) and 1,3-dimethyl-2-imidazolidinone (DMI) was investigated. Treatment with N,N′-dimethyl-1,2-diaminoethane (DMDAE) of PC pellets or PC wastes, derived from compact discs, in dioxane with/without a catalytic amount of base (e.g. Na2CO3 0.5 mol%) for a short period at 100 °C produced DMI and BPA, both in nearly quantitative yields. The aminolysis reaction can be carried out also in DMI, thus saving the use of conventional solvents. A sequential profile of this reaction was verified by examining two model reactions of diphenyl carbonate with N-methylbutylamine and DMDAE, respectively, both proceeded through low-activation energy processes.  相似文献

The CW operation of square-shaped semiconductor ring lasers is demonstrated with a threshold current as low as 6 mA. The ring resonator consists of straight waveguides and four total reflection mirrors. The lasers are fabricated using Br/sub 2/ dry etching on an InGaAs/GaAs strained single-quantum-well graded-index separate-confinement heterostructure wafer. The low-threshold CW operation is due to the high differential gain of the wafer and the low-loss total reflection mirror.<>  相似文献
