A comparative study of three ventilation systems supplying air to a typical Canadian indoor ice rink illustrates the power, energy and operating cost savings which can be achieved by using the relatively warm air from the air cooled condensers of the refrigeration system. The direct use of this warm air for ventilation results in a reduction of energy consumption during the winter amounting to 24.2% of the yearly consumption of the heating system. On the other hand, the use of a heat exchanger to heat the ventilation air results in energy consumption reductions throughout the year. Depending on the size of the heat exchanger these gains can be as high as 60.8% of the heating energy consumption by the existing system. Based on actual prices of electricity and the heat exchanger it is established that the cost savings over the life of the equipment are at least three times higher than the cost of the heat exchanger.  相似文献

Molecular techniques have been applied to study the evolution of wine-associated lactic acid bacteria from red wines produced in the absence and presence of antimicrobial phenolic extracts, eucalyptus leaves and almond skins, and to genetically characterize representative Oenococcus oeni strains. Monitoring microbial populations by PCR-DGGE targeting the rpoB gene revealed that O. oeni was, as expected, the species responsible for malolactic fermentation (MLF). Representative strains from both extract-treated and not-treated wines were isolated and all were identified as O. oeni species, by 16S rRNA sequencing. Typing of isolated O. oeni strains based on the mutation of the rpoB gene suggested a more favorable adaptation of L strains (n = 63) than H strains (n = 3) to MLF. Moreover, PFGE analysis of the isolated O. oeni strains revealed 27 different genetic profiles, which indicates a rich biodiversity of indigenous O. oeni species in the winery. Finally, a higher number of genetic markers were shown in the genome of strains from control wines than strains from wines elaborated with phenolic extracts. These results provide a basis for further investigation of the molecular and evolutionary mechanisms leading to the prevalence of O. oeni in wines treated with polyphenols as inhibitor compounds.  相似文献

The reaction sequences during calcination of oxide mixtures were studied for the PbMg1/3Nb2/3O3─PbTiO3 (PMN-PT) system. The effect of reactivity and composition of the starting mixtures was investigated. In the present study, a B-site-deficient, cubic pyrochlore phase in the PbO-Nb2O5 system was formed at 500°C. The perovskite phase of PMN was formed at 7007deg;C through the diffusion of MgO into the pyrochlore phase. The lattice parameter of the pyrochlore phase decreased as this transformation to perovskite progressed.  相似文献

Core‐shell polyurea microcapsules with a 40% fragrance load were prepared by interfacial polymerization of guanidine and a technical polyisocyanate prepolymer containing mainly the biuret trimer derived from hexamethylene di‐isocyanate (HDI). Residual free polyisocyanates were still present at a level slightly above 100 mg NCO functional group per kg as determined by liquid chromatography hyphenated with tandem mass spectrometry of HDI and of its biuret trimer. This level was decreased by a factor of about 10 when the polymerization process was allowed to proceed for a longer time and by a factor of about 500 when guanidine or NaOH were added to the microcapsule suspension to act as scavengers. In these cases, polyisocyanate conversion was observed to proceed for about one month when the microcapsules were stored at room temperature before reaching a plateau at a level below 1 mg NCO/kg. Overall, ammonia was the most efficient polyisocyanate scavenger as no residual HDI biuret trimer and only less than 2 μg NCO/kg as HDI were detected at the end of the process, a level which had dropped below the limit of detection of 0.25 μg NCO/kg after about 40 days of aging at room temperature. © 2009 Wiley Periodicals, Inc. The dielectric properties of two grades of bi‐oriented isotactic polypropylene were studied with a variety of techniques: breakdown field measurements, dielectric spectroscopy, thermally stimulated depolarization currents (Is), and direct‐current (dc) conduction I values. Standard polypropylene (STPP) and high‐crystallinity polypropylene (HCPP) films were investigated. Measurements were carried out over a wide temperature range (?150°C/+125°C). The breakdown fields in both materials showed a very small difference. On the other hand, the dielectric losses and dc conduction I values were significantly lower in HCPP. Both materials showed a decrease in the dielectric loss versus temperature in the range 20–90°C; this is favorable for application in alternating‐current power capacitors. The analysis of the dc I value allowed us to find evidence of two main conduction mechanisms: (1) below 80°C in both materials, a hopping mechanism due to the motion of electrons occurred in the amorphous phase, and (2) above 80°C, ionic conduction occurred in HCPP, and hopping conduction occurred in STPP. © 2015 Wiley Periodicals, Inc. Microbial transglutaminase (MTG) was stably solid‐phase immobilized on glass microbeads by using a second‐generation dendronized polymer. Immobilized MTG enabled the efficient generation of site‐specifically conjugated proteins, including antibody fragments, as well as whole antibodies through distinct glutamines and, unprecedentedly, also through lysines with various bifunctional substrates with defined stoichiometries. With this method, we generated dual, site‐specifically modified antibodies comprising a fluorescent probe and a metal chelator for radiolabeling—a strategy anticipated to design antibodies for imaging and simultaneous therapy. Furthermore, we provide evidence that immobilized MTG features higher siteselectivity than soluble MTG.  相似文献

A chemical sensor array (consisting of 8 conducting polymers) was used to continuously monitor for the presence or absence of industrial pollutants in the headspace of wastewater generated from an on-line flow-cell. A domestic wastewater (Cranfield University sewage works) was dosed with diesel to stimulate the presence of an intermittent discharge in a wastewater influent. Response patterns between the sensors were used to detect for the presence of organic compounds in the wastewater. Correlations between the sensor response patterns or fingerprints were also analysed using principal component analysis. The results clearly demonstrate that a chemical sensor array can rapidly identify the presence of organic compounds (such as diesel) in a wastewater matrix and could be further developed to monitor for industrial pollutants at the inlet of a sewage works.  相似文献

Aminophenoxazinone dyes with variable water solubilities were assayed for the first time in a live‐cell imaging application. Among a library of ten sulfonylated chromophores, one compound gave excellent results as an endocytic marker, showing a precise subcellular distribution. The compound was compared to four commercial vital tracers, including Lucifer Yellow. The first laccase‐mediated regioselective synthesis of a diphosphorylated 2‐aminophenoxazinone dye was also described. This compound, water‐soluble at 10?2 M , displayed modest fluorescence properties and the ability to complex Mg2+ and Ca2+ cations, therefore giving fluorescence quenching.  相似文献
