Fractal geometry is finding its application in the nondestructive evaluation (NDE) of corrosion by characterizing the corrosion surface with fractal dimensions. It was found that corrosion surfaces can be well described by multifractals. Two algorithms were used to obtain the fractal dimensions of a corroded aluminum alloy surface, one being box-counting and another being coherent light scattering. Fractal dimensions were related with the damage caused by corrosion and fatigue.  相似文献

As a consequence of the phasing out of CFCs, sorption systems appear to be potential candidates to replace vapour compression systems. Amongst sorption systems there exists a choice between several systems, such as liquid absorption, solid adsorption and chemical reaction heat pumps. Nevertheless, few comparative studies between these systems have been undertaken so far. It is the aim of this paper to present such a study based on combined first and second law thermodynamical analysis of the different cycles. Simple entropy generation processes explain why the basic cycles for these systems yield performances much lower than the Carnot efficiency. The possibility of operating regenerative cycles with internal heat recovery and higher efficiencies has also been considered for typical common base conditions. Different entropy generation considerations have been visualised, such as thermal coupling (external/internal), non-uniform temperature component entropy production and other irreversible processes for the COP degradation in these systems. It is found that thermal coupling irreversibilities in solid sorption systems and other internal irreversibilities in liquid sorption systems with solution heat exchanger are dominant in the actual COP degradation with respect to the reversible Carnot COP.  相似文献

A cryo-specimen storage system for low-temperature scanning electron microscopy (LTSEM) specimens is described, which: liberates multi-specimen experiments from sampling restrictions imposed by the rate at which LTSEM specimens can be examined in the SEM; provides security against experiment loss resulting from breakdown of the SEM or cryo-system; enables collection of specimens in the field or in laboratories remote from the SEM laboratory; and facilitates international air transport of LTSEM specimens. The components of the system, which has a capacity of 98 stub-mounted specimens, are readily made in a laboratory workshop. The details of the design may be altered to suit particular specimen types or experimental approaches.  相似文献

A BiCMOS dynamic carry lookahead circuit that is free from race problems is presented. A 16 b full-adder test circuit, which has been designed based on a 2 μm BiCMOS technology, shows a more than five times improvement in speed as compared to the CMOS Manchester carry lookahead (MCLA) circuit. Numerical methods for solving integral equations of an axisymmetric problem of torsion of an elastic space with cracks on the surface of revolution are suggested for the cases of cracks crossing the axis of symmetry and cracks that have no common points with this axis. We also present relations for calculating the stress intensity factors at crack tips. Numerical results are obtained for a conic or paraboloidal simply connected crack and for a doubly connected crack lying on a surface formed by the revolution of an arbitrarily oriented straight segment or a parabolic arc. High-statistics (>4 × 108 counts), room-temperature measurements of the electron-positron momentum density of La2?x Sr x CuO4 have been performed for samples with Sr concentrations of x=0.0, 0.1, 0.13, and 0.2. These spectra have been analyzed in conjunction with theoretical calculations of the electron-positron momentum density. The metallic samples show features consistent with the presence of a Fermi surface, but its evolution with increasing Sr concentration does not follow the predictions of band theory. These results may indicate the effects of electron-electron correlation on the electron momentum distribution in the Cu-O plane.  相似文献

A wideband low-noise pseudomorphic HEMT MMIC variable-gain amplifier has been designed and fabricated. The amplifier has a nominal gain of 13 dB across the band 2-20 GHz, with gain flatness better than ±0.4 dB. The noise figure is less than 3 dB across the band 6-16 GHz. An on-chip temperature-sensing diode is used to provide a linear temperature correction which has been used to reduce the gain variation of the amplifier by a factor of 2 across the temperature range -50°C to +95°C  相似文献
