The Craig VanLaanen Treehouse and Woodland Retreat is for children requiring ventilator assistance and who often need wheelchairs. The unique parameters considered in designing a space for these children gave rise to the concept of super-mobility. Working together with a team of volunteer professionals, the designers developed the concept of super-mobility and its relation to the sensory experience of the retreat. A means of measuring the amplitude of force fluctuations during texture tests is described. A maximum-minimum module added to the electronic force recording system gives a direct readout of amplitude. The method has potential applications in research and quality control The technique is demonstrated with the back extrusion test applied to tomato juice. The results show that the maximum amplitude of the force fluctuations during extrusion is related to the graininess of the juice.  相似文献

The dynamic air-water pressure method for texture analysis after Žagar is described. The method allows determination of the permeable porosity of refractories and of the size and the size distribution of the permeable pores. Several factors which characterize the texture of the material are obtained from these measurements. Data are presented for a variety of refractories. The behavior of chemically bonded basic brick after different heat treatments is studied on the basis of texture analysis and is compared with other fired basic products.  相似文献

The optical absorption of 3d transition elements in fused silica was studied. A series of high-quality silica glasses doped with 0.01 to 0.1 wt% of each transition element (V through Cu) was prepared by a vapor hydrolysis technique. Their optical spectra were measured, and their practical absorptivities were calculated between 200 and 2000 nm. In the proposed waveguide use range (∼ 850 nm), V and Cr appear to absorb most (apract= 2.6 and 1.2 dB/km ppbw−1 (metal), respectively) and Cu the least (apract≃0). Comparisons are made with data for conventional glasses.  相似文献

In order to resolve conflicting reports on the cholesterol concentration in chicken skin, we have assayed cholesterol in skin by gas-liquid chromatography. The mean content for six chickens was 71 mg/100g raw skin. Thus the suggestion that chicken skin is particularly high in cholesterol is probably not correct.  相似文献

Shear compression cells were manufactured to have dimensions 0.75, 0.5 and 0.25% that of the standard cell and used to test a range of foods. Maximum force and energy increased nonlinearly with increasing cell size and sample weight. The results demonstrate that cells of various sizes are practical for testing foods.
Friction in the cell is dependent on alignment of the cell components in the test machine. To obtain comparable readings the cell body must be oriented in the machine the same way for every test.  相似文献

Crystal Control In Processed Liquid Honey   总被引:4,自引:0,他引:4  
Liquid processed honeys produced in the province of Alberta, Canada, were studied to identify controllable factors to delay glucose crystallization. Individual producer honeys were analyzed for glucose and fructose using a new HPLC procedure. Selective use of producer honeys for liquid processed honey was of no advantage since the samples were all supersaturated in glucose (>30% glucose) and contained unexpectedly consistent fructose/glucose ratios of about 1.12. Crystallization could be delayed by filling retail containers at 45 °C or above. Moisture losses noted at well over 1% a year in plastic containers could also contribute to an increase in crystallization for stored honey.  相似文献
