Optical packet assembly is a key function to support inter-working between TCP/IP networks and optical packet-switched networks. It is characterized by the assembly delay and by the segment aggregation needed to form an optical packet. These counter-balancing aspects depend on several environment variables, such as the TCP parameters, the access link speed, the optical packet size whose effects are studied in this paper. Performance evaluations are obtained by extensive simulations in terms of send rate of TCP flows, fairness, efficiency, and assembly delay. Some guidelines in the design of optical packets that take into account the results presented are given.  相似文献

A flexible and efficient technique for the analysis of transmission lines is described. The transmission line is considered as the union of « elementary waveguides », where the medium is uniformly stratified. The modes are determined by matching the field at the interfaces using a procedure that leads to a linear eigenvalue problem involving a limited number of variables.  相似文献

Fraglets represent an execution model for communication protocols that resembles the chemical reactions in living organisms. The strong connection between their way of transforming and reacting and formal rewriting systems makes a fraglet program amenable to automatic verification. Grounded on past work, this paper investigates feasibility of adopting fraglets as model for specifying security protocols and analysing their properties. In particular, we give concrete sample analyses over a secure RFID protocol, showing evolution of the protocol run as chemical dynamics and simulating an adversary trying to circumvent the intended steps. The results of our analysis confirm the effectiveness of the cryptofraglets framework for the model and analysis of security properties and eventually show its potential to identify and uncover protocol flaws.  相似文献

We describe a trainable system for analyzing videos of developing C. elegans embryos. The system automatically detects, segments, and locates cells and nuclei in microscopic images. The system was designed as the central component of a fully automated phenotyping system. The system contains three modules 1) a convolutional network trained to classify each pixel into five categories: cell wall, cytoplasm, nucleus membrane, nucleus, outside medium; 2) an energy-based model, which cleans up the output of the convolutional network by learning local consistency constraints that must be satisfied by label images; 3) a set of elastic models of the embryo at various stages of development that are matched to the label images.  相似文献

Microwave (MW) radiometry is proposed for passive monitoring of kidney temperature to detect vesicoureteral reflux (VUR) of urine that is externally heated by a MW hyperthermia device and thereafter reflows from the bladder to kidneys during reflux. Here, we characterize in tissue-mimicking phantoms the performance of a 1.375 GHz radiometry system connected to an electromagnetically (EM) shielded microstrip log spiral antenna optimized for VUR detection. Phantom EM properties are characterized using a coaxial dielectric probe and network analyzer (NA). Power reflection and receive patterns of the antenna are measured in layered tissue phantom. Receiver spectral measurements are used to assess EM shielding provided by a metal cup surrounding the antenna. Radiometer and fiberoptic temperature data are recorded for varying volumes (10-30 mL) and temperaturesg (40-46°C) of the urine phantom at 35 mm depth surrounded by 36.5°C muscle phantom. Directional receive pattern with about 5% power spectral density at 35 mm target depth and better than -10 dB return loss from tissue load are measured for the antenna. Antenna measurements demonstrate no deterioration in power reception and effective EM shielding in the presence of the metal cup. Radiometry power measurements are in excellent agreement with the temperature of the kidney phantom. Laboratory testing of the radiometry system in temperature-controlled phantoms supports the feasibility of passive kidney thermometry for VUR detection.  相似文献

In digital communication modems in which a very high rate system clock is used, it is necessary to use analog base-band shaping filters in the inphase (I) and quadrature (Q) paths of the modulator. However, this type of implementation inherently produces a mismatch of the I and Q paths. In the present paper, results of the analysis of the transmitter (TX) I/Q mismatch in an Orthogonal Frequency Division Multiplexing (OFDM) system with Differential Coherent Quadrature Phase Shift Keying (DQPSK) modulation is presented. Theoretical analysis shows that the Signal-to-Noise (SNR) degradation due to the I/Q mismatch can be represented by a mismatch transfer function on the basis of which one can compute the maximum affordable amplitude and phase mismatch of the TX filters transfer functions.  相似文献

The unprecedented growth in mobile data usage is posing significant challenges to cellular operators. One key challenge is how to provide quality of service to subscribers when their residing cell is experiencing a significant amount of traffic, i.e. becoming a traffic hotspot. In this paper, we perform an empirical study on data hotspots in today’s cellular networks using a 9-week cellular dataset with 734K+ users and 5327 cell sites. Our analysis examines in details static and dynamic characteristics, predictability, and causes of data hotspots, and their correlation with call hotspots. We show that using standard machine learning methods, future hotspots can be accurately predicted from past observations. We believe the understanding of these key issues will lead to more efficient and responsive resource management and thus better QoS provision in cellular networks. To the best of our knowledge, our work is the first to empirically characterize traffic hotspots in today’s cellular networks.  相似文献

Designers of radio-frequency inductively-degenerated CMOS low-noise-amplifiers have usually not followed the guidelines for achieving minimum noise figure. Nonetheless, state-of-the-art implementations display noise figure values very close to the theoretical minimum. In this paper, we point out that this is due to the effect of the parasitic overlap capacitances in the MOS device. In particular, we show that overlap capacitances lead to a significant induced-gate-noise reduction, especially when deep sub-micron CMOS processes are used.Paolo Rossi was born in Milan, Italy, in 1975. He received the Laurea degree (summa cum laude) in electrical engineering from the University of Pavia, Pavia, Italy, in 2000, where he is currently working toward the Ph.D. degree. His research interests are in the field of analog integrated circuits for wireless transceivers in CMOS and BiCMOS technology, with particular focus on the analysis and design of LNA and mixer for multi-standard applications.Francesco Svelto received the Laurea and Ph.D. degrees in electrical engineering from the University of Pavia, Pavia, Italy, in 1991 and 1995, respectively. From 1996 to 1997, he held a grant from STMicroelectronics to design CMOS RF circuits. In 1997, he was appointed Assistant Professor at the University of Bergamo, Italy, and in 2000, he joined the University of Pavia, where he is an Associate Professor. His current research interests are in the field of RF design and high-frequency integrated circuits for telecommunications. Dr. Svelto has been a member of the technical program committee of the IEEE Custom Integrated Circuits Conference since 2000 and the Bipolar/BiCMOS Circuits and Technology Meeting (BCTM) since 2003, and the European Solid State Circuits Conference in 2002. He served as Guest Editor of the March 2003 special issue of the IEEE Journal of Solid-State Circuits, of which he is currently an Associate Editor.Andrea Mazzanti was born in Modena (Italy) in 1976. He received the Laurea degree (summa cum Laude) in Electrical Engineering from the University of Modena and Reggio Emilia, Modena, Italy in 2001. Since 2001 he is pursuing his PhD in Electrical Engineering at University of Modena and Reggio Emilia, Italy. His major research interest are modelling of microwave semiconductor devices and design of CMOS RF integrated circuits, with particular focus on low noise oscillators and analog frequency dividers. During the summer of 2003 he was with Agere Systems, Allentown, PA as an internship student, working on the design of an highly integrated CMOS FM transmitter.Pietro Andreani received the M.S.E.E. from the University of Pisa, Italy, in 1988. He joined the Dept. of Applied Electronics, Lund University, Sweden, in 1990, where he contributed to the development of software tools for digital ASIC design. After working at the Dept. of Applied Electronics, University of Pisa, as a CMOS IC designer during 1994, he rejoined the Dept. of Applied Electronics in Lund as an Associate Professor, where he was responsible for the analog IC course package between 1995 and 2001, and where he received the Ph.D. degree in 1999. He is currently a Professor at the Center for Physical Electronics, ØrstedDTU, Technical University of Denmark, Kgs. Lyngby, Denmark, with analog/RF CMOS IC design as main research field.  相似文献
