Polystyrene latexes were prepared in the presence of an amino‐containing functional comonomer, N‐(3‐aminopropyl)methacrylamide hydrochloride (APMH), via soap‐free batch emulsion polymerization initiated by the cationic initiator 2,2′‐azobis(2‐amidinopropane) dihydrochloride. These latexes were characterized by studying the influence of the ionic comonomers on the polymerization kinetics, particle size, surface charge density and colloidal properties. The synthesized latexes were monodisperse with a final size between 100 and 600 nm depending on the APMH concentration. The initial polymerization rate and the particle number increased in accordance with the Smith–Ewart theory for soap‐free styrene emulsion polymerization with a hydrophilic functional comonomer. The final functionalization rate of the particles has been particularly studied with the intention of fitting the prepared latexes to be used in the immobilization of biological molecules for biological sample preparation and diagnostic applications. © 2020 Society of Chemical Industry 相似文献

An antibacterial peptide (AMP), i.e., nisin, was covalently bound to gelatin through a protein–protein coupling. Various reaction conditions were tested to study and optimize parameters of grafting e.g., orientation and density of AMP, which could impact the final antibacterial activity of the modified biopolymer. Modification was investigated by Fourier transform infrared (FT‐IR) spectroscopy and zeta potential. The antibacterial activity of the nisin‐enriched gelatin was evaluated against two staphylococci bacterial strains, i.e., Staphylococus epidermidis and Staphylococcus aureus. A higher activity was found for gelatin modified at pH = 7.4 revealing an influence of the nisin orientation on the protein antibacterial property. © 2014 Wiley Periodicals, Inc. J. Appl. Polym. A fast method is proposed for determining the oxygen gas‐liquid diffusion coefficient from measurements of the fluorescence quenching behind a bubble. The approach consists of capturing pictures of the concentration field at micro‐scale in the laminar bubble wake. The Gaussian concentration profiles measured in the wake are demonstrated to be systematically equivalent to an instantaneous plane diffusion case. The approach permits to accurately evaluate the gas‐liquid diffusivity in a very short time of around one second. 相似文献

Ferrociphenols have been found to have high antiproliferative activity against estrogen‐independent breast cancer cells. The rat and human liver microsome‐mediated metabolism of three compounds of the ferrocifen ( FC ) family, 1,1‐bis(4‐hydroxyphenyl)‐2‐ferrocenyl‐but‐1‐ene ( FC1 ), 1‐(4‐hydroxyphenyl)‐1‐(phenyl)‐2‐ferrocenyl‐but‐1‐ene ( FC2 ), and 1‐[4‐(3‐dimethylaminopropoxy)phenyl]‐1‐(4‐hydroxyphenyl)‐2‐ferrocenyl‐but‐1‐ene ( FC3 ), was studied. Three main metabolite classes were identified: quinone methides ( QM s) deriving from two‐electron oxidation of FC s, cyclic indene products ( CP s) deriving from acid‐catalyzed cyclization of QM s, and allylic alcohols ( AA s) deriving from hydroxylation of FC s. These metabolites are generated by cytochromes P450 (P450s), as shown by experiments with either N‐benzylimidazole as a P450 inhibitor or recombinant human P450s. Such P450‐dependent oxidation of the phenol function and hydroxylation of the allylic CH2 group of FC s leads to the formation of QM and AA metabolites, respectively. Some of the new ferrociphenols obtained in this study were found to exhibit remarkable antiproliferative effects toward MDA‐MB‐231 hormone‐independent breast cancer cells. 相似文献

Peptide dendrimers are a class of molecules of high interest in the search for new antibiotics. We used microwave‐assisted, copper(I)‐catalyzed alkyne–azide cycloaddition (CuAAC; “click” chemistry) for the simple and versatile synthesis of a new class of multivalent antimicrobial peptides (AMPs) containing solely arginine and tryptophan residues. To investigate the influence of multivalency on antibacterial activity, short solid‐phase‐ synthesized azide‐modified Arg‐Trp‐containing peptides were “clicked” to three different alkyne‐modified benzene scaffolds to access scaffolds with one, two, or three peptides. The antibacterial activity of 15 new AMPs was investigated by minimal inhibitory concentration (MIC) assays on five different bacterial strains, including a multidrug‐resistant Staphylococcus aureus (MRSA) strain. With ultrashort (2–3 residues) peptides, a clear synergistic effect of the trivalent display was observed, whereas this effect was not apparent with longer peptides. The best candidates showed activities in the low‐micromolar range against Gram‐positive MRSA. Surprisingly, the best activity against Gram‐negative Acinetobacter baumannii was observed with an ultrashort dipeptide on the trivalent scaffold (MIC: 7.5 μM ). The hemolytic activity was explored for the three most active peptides. At concentrations ten times the MIC values, <1 % hemolysis of red blood cells was observed. 相似文献

The purpose of this work was to study the role of cesium in sodium‐based geopolymer and its thermal stability for nuclear waste management. A series of mixed sodium and cesium geopolymer samples (Na1?x Cs x )2O·Al2O3·SiO2·12H2O (referred to as (Na1? x Cs x )‐GP, where x = 0, 0.08, 0.15, 0.42, 1) have been prepared. All geopolymer samples were heated at 1100°C for 24 h. Pollucite (CsAlSi2O6) and feldspathoid (CsAlSiO4) were crystallized from Cs‐GP. Nepheline (NaAlSiO4) and a small amount of crystallized silica were obtained from Na‐GP. The other geopolymers (Na1? x Cs x )‐GP (x = 0.08, 0.15, 0.42) led to pollucite and nepheline main phases. Amorphous silica phase was observed in all the geopolymer samples with various amounts. Phase quantification and scanning electron microscope revealed that higher Cs concentrations in Na‐GP tend to decrease the amorphous phase while improving pollucite and nepheline phase quantification. The amorphous geopolymers have also been studied by pair distribution function analysis. Tetrahedral chains formed by T–O bonding (with T = Si, Al) were shown to be more tighten around Cs+ than around Na+. It led to shorter Cs–T bond than Na–T bond matching the higher solvation property of Na+. Furthermore, thermal study analysis pointed out the fact that geopolymer samples (Na1? x Cs x )‐GP, can be considered as solid solutions. 相似文献

Copper amine–treated wood flour was added to PVC [poly(vinyl chloride)] matrix in order to manufacture PVC/wood‐flour composites. Effects of copper treatments on the mechanical properties of PVC‐wood composites were evaluated. Unnotched impact strength, flexural strength, and flexural toughness of the composites were significantly improved by the wood‐flour copper treatment. The optimum copper concentration range was 0.2 to 0.6 wt% of wood flour. Fractured surfaces were examined by using scanning electron microscopy (SEM) combined with energy‐dispersive spectroscopy (EDS). PVC/wood interfacial debonding was the main fracture mode of untreated wood‐flour composites, whereas wood‐particle pullout and breakage dominating the fractured surfaces of copper‐treated wood‐flour composites. On the fractured surfaces, more PVC could be found on the exposed copper‐treated wood particles than on untreated wood, a result suggesting improved PVC‐wood interfacial adhesion after copper treatments. Tetrabenzoylgermane 1 and various substituted tetrabenzoylgermanes 2 – 7 were investigated as visible light (VL) photoinitiators (PIs) for dental dimethacrylate resins and dimethacrylate‐based composites. The tetrabenzoylgermanes 1 – 7 show a very strong VL absorption between 400 and 450 nm. Substituents on the benzoyl chromophore strongly influence their properties such as melting point, solubility, absorption behavior, or PI reactivity. A good photobleaching behavior and a very high reactivity as VL PI was found in photo‐differential scanning calorimeter experiments for selected tetrabenzoylgermanes. Composite pastes containing only ~0.1 wt % of Ge‐PI exhibited a sufficient photocuring due to the high PI‐reactivity of the tetraacylgermanes. Among the investigated germane PIs, tetrakis(2‐methylbenzoyl)germane 2 shows the best performance as VL PI for restorative composites and enables the composites to be photocured using an LED with an emission maximum of 500 nm. © 2017 Wiley Periodicals, Inc. Compounds that simultaneously activate peroxisome proliferator‐activated receptor (PPAR) subtypes α and γ have the potential to effectively treat dyslipidemia and type 2 diabetes (T2D) in a single pharmaceutically active molecule. The frequently observed side effects of selective PPARγ agonists, such as edema and weight gain, were expected to be overcome by using additive PPARα activity, leading to dual PPARα/γ agonists with balanced activity for both subtypes. Herein we report the discovery, synthesis, and optimization of a new series of α‐ethoxyphenylpropionic acid bearing 5‐ or 6‐substituted indoles. The incorporation of oxime ethers on the carbonyl portion of the benzoyl group can bring the PPARα/γ potency ratio equal to or slightly greater than one, as is the case for compounds 20 c and 21 a . Compound 20 c shows high efficacy in an ob/ob mouse model of T2D and dyslipidemia, similar to that of rosiglitazone and tesaglitazar, but with a significant increase in body weight gain. In contrast, compound 21 a , less potent as a dual PPARα/γ activator than 20 c , showed an interesting pharmacological profile, as it elicits a decrease in body weight relative to reference compounds. 相似文献
