An attempt has been made in this paper to estimate the reliability of an s-out-of-k system with non-identical component strengths when component strengths follow an exponential distribution. A further assumption is made that all the components are subjected to a common random stress which also follow an exponential distribution. Bayes and maximum likelihood estimators of such system reliability are considered. A Bayes estimate is obtained by using Lindley's approximation. This paper presents a collection of numerical simulation data which provides a reference for the assessment of various statistical/stochastic models in incompressible homogeneous particle-laden turbulent flows. Four different homogeneous flow configurations are studied, namely, homogeneous shear flow, homogeneous plane strain flow, homogeneous axisymmetric expansion and contraction. An Eulerian-Lagrangian formulation is used for the two-phase flow simulation. A Fourier pseudospectral method is used for the solution of the Eulerian carrier-phase equations without resorting to any turbulence model. The Lagrangian equations for the dispersed phase are integrated using a modified Stokes drag. For the shear flow, both monodispersed and polydispersed particles have been considered. In this paper, only the results that are relevant for assessment of various statistical models for both the fluid and dispersed phases are presented. 相似文献

We report the first determination of the impact of optical nonlinearities on the information capacity of a fiber optic transmission channel. By modeling interchannel interference in a nonlinear wavelength division multiplexing transmission system as multiplicative Gaussian noise, we show that the information capacity is reduced below the Shannon capacity of the linear communications channel. For systems of practical interest, this imposes a fundamental limitation on the spectral efficiency of optical data transmission. 相似文献

The partial intermixing of the well and barrier materials offers unique opportunities to shift locally the bandgap of quantum-well (QW) structures. We have demonstrated redshifting and broadening of the wavelength responses of bound-to-continuum GaAs and InP based quantum-well infrared photodetectors (QWIP's) after growth via impurity-free vacancy disordering (IFVD). A comprehensive set of experiments is conducted on QWIP's fabricated from both as-grown and multiple-quantum-well (MQW) structures. Compared to the as-grown detector, the peak spectral responses of the disordered detectors were shifted to longer wavelengths. The peak absolute response of the disordered GaAs based QWIP is lower by almost a factor of four. However, the responsivity characteristics of the disordered InP based QWIP show no major degradation. In general, with the spectral broadening taken into account, the overall performance of the disordered QWIP's has not dropped significantly. Thus, the postgrowth control of the QW composition profiles by impurity-free vacancy disordering offers unique opportunities to fine tune various aspects of a photodetector's response. The performance of a statistical multiplexer whose inputs consist of a superposition of voice packet streams is studied. The delay for such a system is analyzed by solving the ΣD i/ D /1 queue. The analytic method can be used to find the approximate mean delay for an arbitrarily large number of trunks and the approximate delay distribution when the number of trunks is less than 100. An efficient hybrid simulation of the packet voice multiplexer which can be used to find the delay distribution for a large number of trunks is presented. This paper presents a self-generating square/triangular wave generator using only the CMOS Operational Transconductance Amplifiers (OTAs) and a grounded capacitor. The output frequency and amplitude of the proposed circuit can be independently and electronically adjusted. The proposed circuit validates its advantage by consuming less amount of power, which is about 71.3 µW. The theoretical aspects are authentically showcased using the PSPICE simulation results. The performance of the proposed circuit is also verified through pre layout and post layout simulation results using the 90 nm GPDK CMOS parameters. A prototype of this circuit has been made using commercially available IC CA3080 for experimental verification. Experimentation also gives the similar output as per the theoretical proposition. In this paper, we have studied a number of algorithms for routing in all-optical wavelength routed networks. We have considered situations where a lightpath is dynamically created in response to a request for communication and the WDM channels constituting the lightpath are reclaimed when the communication is over. We have looked at two schemes for dynamic wavelength allocation. In the first scheme we have assumed the existence of a central agent to maintain a database of existing lightpaths where the central agent attempts to generate a new lightpath in response to a request for communication. In the second scheme, we attempt to generate a new lightpath using a distributed algorithm. In the first scheme we have exploited the existence of multiple paths between any pair of nodes in a network in order to reduce the blocking probability. For the second scheme, we have proposed three distributed strategies to determine, if possible, a lightpath when there is a request for communication. Each of these strategies have their advantages and disadvantages in terms of the expected blocking probability and the set-up time.
