The telecommunications planners for the North Carolina State Government recognising the potential of asynchronous transfer mode and synchronous optical network, asked BellSouth, Carolina Telephone, and GTE to develop a proposal for a network based on ATM and SONET to enable a multitude of high-speed data and video applications throughout the state. This B-ISDN, now known as the North Carolina Information Highway (NCIH), has become widely recognized as a model for the National Information Infrastructure (NII). Myoglobin (Mb) may facilitate O2 diffusion in muscle tissue, yet models of O2 transport are often simplified by ignoring the role of Mb. A recent analysis of O2 transport in hamster retractor muscle revealed a large discrepancy between the observed O2 diffusion from arterioles and that predicted by a mathematical model that did not include Mb. To establish whether this simplification was justified, we measured Mb content ([Mb]) in three hamster muscles that vary markedly in histochemical fiber type composition. [Mb] was determined spectrophotometrically using freshly excised tissues from hamsters of different ages (5-34 wk). [Mb] increased rapidly up to 15 wk of age and then rose more slowly. [Mb] in hamster muscles paralleled oxidative capacity. Our measurements of rat and dog muscles also show that [Mb] varies greatly among species and among muscles of a given species. The results indicate that in the hamster the variability in [Mb] with age and muscle should be taken into account when the potential role of Mb in studies on O2 transport is interpreted.  相似文献

NFB42 (neural F Box 42 kDa) is a novel gene product that is highly enriched in the nervous system. Its predicted protein contains an F box, a motif recently shown to couple cell cycle regulation to the proteasome pathway (Bai, C., Sen, P., Hofmann, K., Ma, L., Goebl, M., Harper, J. W., and Elledge, S. (1996) Cell 86, 263-274). NFB42 mRNA and protein are expressed in all major areas of the adult rat brain but are not detected in non-neural tissues. NFB42 protein is localized primarily to the cytoplasm of neurons and does not appear to be present in glia. The presence of an F box in NFB42 suggests that it may be involved in cell cycle regulation; however, its expression in postmitotic neurons indicates that it is not involved in regulating typical cell cycle events. In an initial attempt to characterize the function of this protein, NFB42 was transfected into N1E-115 neuroblastoma and Chinese hamster ovary cells. The expression of full-length NFB42, but not an F box deletion mutant, inhibits proliferation in both cell lines. Additional experiments demonstrate that NFB42 interacts with Skp1p, a component of the proteasome pathway, and deletion of the F box also inhibits this interaction. Overall, the expression pattern of NFB42, along with the presence of an F box domain and the ability to inhibit growth, suggests that it may play a role in maintaining neurons in a postmitotic state.  相似文献

The structure and properties of organic-inorganic hybrid nanocomposites prepared from a resole phenolic resin and a POSS mixture containing >95 wt% trisilanolphenyl POSS was investigated by POM (polarized optical microscopy), SEM, TEM, WAXD, FT-IR, DSC, and TGA techniques. Composites with 1.0-10.4 wt% of POSS were prepared by dissolving the POSS and the phenolic resin into THF, followed by solvent removal and curing. Both nano- and micro-sized POSS filler aggregates and particles were shown to be heterogeneously dispersed in the cured matrix by POM, TEM, SEM, and X-EDS. POSS was found everywhere, including in both dispersed phase domains and in the matrix. The nanocomposite morphology appears to form by a multi-step POSS aggregation during the process of phase separation. Both the matrix and dispersed ‘particulate’ phase domains are mixtures of phenolic resin and POSS. POSS micro-crystals act as the core of the dispersed phase. The bigger dispersed domains consist of smaller particles or aggregates of POSS molecules that exhibit some order but regions of matrix resin are interspersed. A WAXD peak at 2θ∼7.3° indicates crystalline order in the POSS aggregates. This characteristic peak's intensity increases with an increase in POSS loading, suggesting that more POSS molecules have aggregated or crystallized. FT-IR spectra confirm that hydrogen bonding exists between the phenolic resin and POSS Si-OH groups. This increases their mutual compatibility, but H-bonding does not prevent POSS aggregation and phase separation during curing. TGA measurements in air confirmed the temperature for 5% mass loss in increases with increase of POSS loading and at T>550° the thermal stability increases more sharply with POSS loading. The nanocomposite glass transition temperatures (Tg) are only slightly be affected by the POSS filler.  相似文献

通过反求迷宫型灌水器注塑产品的实物结构,建立其流量数值预测的物理模型,分别采用层、紊流模型对40~150 kPa压力下的灌水器流量进行数值计算,并相应开展该灌水器流量与压力关系的试验测试.试验结果验证了计算流体动力学(CFD)方法预测灌水器流量的可行性,同时对比发现紊流模型的计算值更接近于试验值.通过对迷宫流道内流场分布的研究表明,由于流道曲折度较大,其内流体流动状态的转折点大幅度提前,在雷诺数Re=250~300之间时,流动就开始过渡到紊流状态,从而导致灌水器内的流动在40~150 kPa压力测试范围内均处于一种紊流状态.  相似文献

A study has been carried out of the interactions of NH3 with TiO2, Nb2O5, and Nb2O5/TiO2. Raman spectroscopy was used to characterize the structure of the adsorbed NH3 and perturbations of species present at the surface of the adsorbent. On each oxide, NH3 adsorbs predominantly at Lewis acid sites. Hydrogen-bonding occurs between the adsorbed NH3 and OH groups present on the surface of TiO2. A small concentration of NH 4 + is observed, consistent with the relatively low concentration of Brønsted acid sites compared to Lewis acid sites on each of the samples investigated. Exposure of Nb2O5/TiO2 to NH3 at temperatures up to 500°C does not result in partial reduction of the supported niobia.  相似文献
