Valve trays are becoming popular in the chemical process industries owing to their flexibility to handle a wide range of vapor
throughputs. Using the rigorous rate based model, the importance of the non-equilibrium approach is demonstrated for a typical
extractive distillation process in a Glitsch V-1 valve tray column. Simulation results based on an in-house developed code
indicated that the rate based model predictions for a valve tray column operation showed significant differences relative
to the equilibrium model. Even small errors in product purities translated into nonoptimal feed stage locations and inaccurate

Logistic regression is frequently used in many areas of applied statistics. The maximum likelihood estimates (MLE) of the logistic regression parameters are usually computed using the iterative Newton-Raphson method. It is well known that these estimates are biased. Several methods are proposed to correct the bias of these estimates. Among them Firth (1993) and Cordeiro and McCullagh (1991) proposed two promising methods. The conditional exact method (CMLE) is popular for small-sample estimates, and is available in many software packages. In this article we compare these methods in terms of their bias. In general, our extensive simulations show that the methods proposed by Cordeiro and McCullagh and by Firth work well, though Cordeiro and McCullagh is slightly better in our simulations. In case of separation, Firth or CMLE can be used; however, a judicious approach is required when there is a wide variation in results. Two real data analyses are given exhibiting these properties. Simple hydroxide precursors were used for the first time for the synthesis of a typical Aurivillius compound (SrBi2 Nb2 O9 (SBN)) at a low temperature. This method is very advantageous because it circumvents the use of SrCO3 in the case of conventional ceramics as well in the coprecipitation methods, thereby lowering the formation of the product phase. Commercially purchased strontium hydroxide is mixed thoroughly with freshly precipitated bismuth and niobium hydroxides in a stoichiometric ratio and heated at different temperatures ranging from 100°C to 750°C for 12 h. The sequence of the reaction and evolution of the product phase was monitored by X-ray diffraction (XRD) studies by recording the XRD for samples calcined at different temperatures. The incipient SBN phase begins to form at temperatures as low as 400°C, and phase formation was complete only at 650°C as revealed by the XRD observations. The differential thermal/thermogravimetric analyses) also corroborate this result. We fabricate dye-sensitized solar cells (DSSC) using vertically oriented, high density, and crystalline array of ZnO nanowires, which can be a suitable alternative to titanium dioxide nanoparticle films. The vertical nanowires provide fast routes or channels for electron transport to the substrate electrode. As an alternative to conventional ruthenium complex, we introduce Rose Bengal dye, which acts as a photosensitizer in the dye-sensitized solar cells. This article presents the design of a new high-speed multiplier architecture using Nikhilam Sutra of Vedic mathematics. The proposed multiplier architecture finds out the compliment of the large operand from its nearest base to perform the multiplication. The multiplication of two large operands is reduced to the multiplication of their compliments and addition. It is more efficient when the magnitudes of both operands are more than half of their maximum values. The carry save adder in the multiplier architecture increases the speed of addition of partial products. The multiplier circuit is synthesised and simulated using Xilinx ISE 10.1 software and implemented on Spartan 2 FPGA device XC2S30-5pq208. The output parameters such as propagation delay and device utilisation are calculated from synthesis results. The performance evaluation results in terms of speed and device utilisation are compared with earlier multiplier architecture. controllers for load frequency regulation of delayed interconnected power system (IPS) with parametric uncertainties.
Considering both state feedback control strategy and delayed feedback control strategy, two SMC laws are proposed.
The proposed control laws are designed to improve the stability and disturbance rejection performance of delayed
IPS, while stabilization criteria in the form of linear matrix inequality are derived by choosing a Lyapunov–Krasovskii

Bubble characteristics and gas hold-up were studied in a two phase (air-aqueous CMC solution) bubble column provided with helical coils and straight tubes as internals. The effects of superficial gas velocity, rheological properties, and volume fraction covered by the internals, on gas hold-up were studied. Hold-up values determined directly and by simultaneous pressure drop measurements matched well. Enhancement of gas hold-up values up to 55 per cent was achieved in systems using internals.
