The removal of Cu(II) by adsorption on fly ash has been found to be concentration, pH and temperature dependent. The kinetics of adsorption indicates the process to be diffusion controlled. The Langmuir constants have been calculated at different temperatures, and the adsorption has been found to be endothermic (ΔH = 15.652 kcal mol?1). The maximum removal is observed at pH 8.0, and variation in adsorption with pH has been explained on the basis of surface ionisation and complexation.  相似文献

Registries of excimer laser coronary angioplasty have reported good results in the treatment of complex coronary artery disease, including total or subtotal coronary occlusions. One hundred three patients (103 lesions) with a functional or total coronary occlusion were included in a randomized trial (Amsterdam-Rotterdam [AMRO] trial, total of 308 patients), 49 patients were allocated to laser angioplasty and 54 patients to balloon angioplasty. The primary clinical end points were death, myocardial infarction, coronary bypass surgery, or repeated coronary angioplasty of the randomized segment during a 6-month follow-up period. The primary angiographic end point was the minimal lumen diameter at follow-up in relation to the baseline value (net gain), as determined by an automated contour-detection algorithm. Laser angioplasty was followed by balloon angioplasty in all procedures. The angiographic success rate was 65% in patients treated with excimer laser-assisted balloon angioplasty compared with 61% in patients treated with balloon angioplasty alone. No deaths occurred. There were no significant differences between the laser angioplasty group and the balloon angioplasty group in the incidence of myocardial infarctions (1 patient vs 3, respectively, p = 0.36), coronary bypass surgery (4 patients vs 2, respectively, p = 0.34), repeat angioplasty (10 patients vs 8, respectively, p = 0.46) or primary clinical end point (15 patients vs 12, respectively, p = 0.34). The net gain in minimal lumen diameter and restenosis rate (>50% diameter stenosis at follow-up) were 0.81 +/- 0.74 mm and 66.7%, respectively, in patients treated with laser angioplasty compared with 1.04 +/- 0.68 mm and 48.5%, respectively, in patients treated with balloon angioplasty (p = 0.59 and p = 0.15, respectively). Excimer laser-assisted balloon angioplasty demonstrated no benefit over balloon angioplasty with respect to initial and long-term clinical and angiographic outcome in the treatment of patients with functional or total coronary occlusions of >10 mm in length.  相似文献

Hybridization experiments between normal Hb tetramers (Fe2+ Hb) and those with four metal-substituted hemes (i.e., replacement of Fe2+ by Co2+, Mg2+, Mn2+, Mn3+, Ni2+, or Zn2+) have revealed unexpected behavior. These homometallic Hbs have previously served as models that mimic the deoxy or oxy properties of normal Fe2+ Hb. In this study, hybrids were composed of one alpha 1 beta 1 dimer that is metal-substituted at both hemes, in association with a second dimer alpha 2 beta 2 that has normal Fe2+ hemes. Both metal-substituted subunits are unligated, whereas the two Fe2+ subunits either are both unligated or both ligated with O2, CO, or CN. It was found that four of the metal-substituted Hbs (Mg2+ Hb, Mn2+ Hb, Ni2+ Hb, and Zn2+ Hb) did not form detectable amounts of heterometallic hybrids with normal Fe2+ Hb even though (i) their homometallic parents formed tight tetrameric complexes with stabilities similar to that of Fe2+ Hb and (ii) hybrids with metal substitution at both alpha sites or both beta sites are known to form readily. This striking positional effect was independent of whether the normal Fe2+ hemes were ligated and of which ligand was used. These findings indicate that surprisingly large changes in tetramer behavior can arise from small and subtle perturbations at the heme sites. Possible origins of these effects are considered.  相似文献

BACKGROUND AND OBJECTIVE: Mydriatics and antiprostaglandins are routinely applied preoperatively to facilitate the aspiration of cortical material during extracapsular cataract surgery and to prevent intraoperative miosis. Unfortunately, the ideal antiprostaglandin has yet to be introduced. This study represents the first prospective, case-controlled, randomized, masked, clinical trial comparing the efficacy of oral ketorolac tromethamine (KT) with the efficacy of topical flurbiprofen sodium (FS) and a placebo (normal saline) in maintaining intraoperative mydriasis without adrenaline in the irrigation solution. PATIENTS AND METHODS: Sixty-three patients, undergoing extracapsular cataract extraction with posterior chamber intraocular lens implantation, were randomly divided into three equal groups. Group 1 received 20 mg of oral KT 2 hours prior to surgery, group 2 received 0.03% FS topical solution at the recommended dosage, and group 3 received topical normal saline in a regimen identical to that of group 2. Identical mydriatics were used in both groups. The patients' pupils were measured at five stages of surgery. RESULTS: The mean pupillary diameters at each surgical stage were greater in group 1 than in group 2; however, the difference was not statistically significant. The pupils in group 3 were significantly smaller than those of group 1 or group 2 (P < .05). No systemic toxicity to KT was observed. Moreover, the need for additional postoperative analgesics was significantly greater in groups 2 and 3. CONCLUSIONS: Oral KT is safe, convenient, and as effective as topical FS, and has the added advantage of reducing postoperative pain.  相似文献

PURPOSE: To study of the effect of silicone intraocular lens (IOL) implantation using a 3.0 mm tunnel incision with that of implantation though a 6.0 mm corneoscleral incision after phacoemulsification in human eyes. SETTING: Department of Ophthalmology, University of K?ln, Germany. METHODS: In a prospective, randomized clinical study, 50 patients with senile cataract had phacoemulsification and IOL implantation through a 3.0 mm tunnel or a 6.0 mm corneoscleral incision. To assess blood-aqueous barrier (BAB) disruption, preoperative and postoperative sodium fluorescein concentrations in the anterior chamber were measured with the Fluorotron Master II. Diclofenac sodium 0.1% was applied to the operative eyes five times a day for 5 days. The contralateral eyes served as controls. RESULTS: There was no significant between-group difference in sodium fluorescein concentrations in the 5 days after surgery. CONCLUSION: The findings underline our clinical impression that BAB disruption 5 days after surgery does not differ significantly with the type and length of scleral incision used for IOL implantation.  相似文献

The efficacy of Zr in removing Fe from molten Mg‐X binary alloys was studied experimentally and using calculated phase diagrams. Zr is effective in reducing the Fe content from the Mg melt for Mg‐X binary alloys, X = Y, Si, Sn, Ca, Sr, Ce, Gd, Nd, Li, La, Mn, and Zn. Purification occurs by the precipitation from the melt of Fe rich precipitates, and the settling of the precipitates to the bottom of the melt. Any desired Fe content down to 1 ppm can be achieved by appropriate melt treatment.  相似文献

Crosslinked and uncrosslinked ethylene-vinyl acetate copolymer membranes were prepared. The permeation characteristics in the pervaporation process were examined using carbon tetrachloride-acetone mixtures. Modified membranes exhibit carbon tetrachloride permselectivity, but unmodified membranes did not display the permselectivity of crosslinked polymer. Furthermore, membranes modified with dicumyl peroxide (DCP) showed a higher flux and selectivity than those of benzoyl peroxide (BP) modified ones. The effects of feed concentration, molecular size, and polarity of the permeating species on pervaporation were analyzed. The influence of crosslinking density of the membranes on pervaporation was also analyzed. The maximum separation and flux were found to be associated with an optimum amount of crosslinking agent in the membrane. A mixture of chloroform and acetone having a composition near the azeotropic region was also separated by the pervaporation technique. © 1996 John Wiley & Sons, Inc.  相似文献

Blends of low density polyethylene (LDPE) and linear low density polyethylene (LLDPE) are widely used for blown film applications. An accurate and rapid test scheme to identify the type and composition of α-olefin in LDPE/LLDPE blends has been developed that utilizes differential scanning calorimetery (DSC) and Fourier transform infrared (FTIR) spectroscopy techniques. The melting point of LDPE varies with density and usually is in the range of 106°C to 112°C for film grade resins. The DSC thermogram of LLDPE is characterized by a broad range of melting peaks with a lower melting peak around 106°C to 110°C and a higher one in the range of 120°C to 124°C. In a blend with LDPE, the ratio of the two endothermic peak heights changes. At a given weight percent of LDPE, this ratio depends on the type of LLDPE (i.e., the comonomer used). Separate calibrations for butene-1, hexene-1, and octene-1 LLDPEs have been developed to quantify the blend composition from DSC thermograms where the α-olefin type is successfully identified by FTIR over the entire blend composition range. The calibration curves are applicable to narrow melt index (MI) and density range conventional film grade LDPE and LLDPE resins and are not intended to be used for the metallocene type LLDPEs.  相似文献
