Cylindrical bulk amorphous samples with diameters up to 10 mm have been prepared by casting ZrTiAlCuNi alloys in a copper mould. In order to rank glass-forming ability as a function of alloy composition, alloys were also cast into wedge-shaped moulds; to a first approximation, the thickness of the amorphous region obtained can be taken as an indication of glass-forming ability. The compositions which lead to the production of bulk glasses all have reduced glass transition temperatures in excess of 0.65 and the extremely high glass-forming ability of these compositions is discussed. We suggest that both the Al and Ti contents are determining factors for the production of bulk amorphous samples and these are believed to reduce the driving force for, and hence the rate of, crystallisation. These amorphous alloys have been found to display high thermal stability and can be annealed for several minutes in the supercooled liquid region. Aluminum casting alloys exhibit creep behavior when the materials are exposed to high temperature and load. In this article,
the stress- and temperature-dependent creep behavior of a die casting A380-T5 aluminum alloy was simulated using a classical
constitutive model. The bolt-load retention behavior of the material was analyzed in a head bolt joint in an aluminum engine
under thermal cycle condition using the finite element method. In this simulation, transient thermal analysis was performed
first to calculate the metal temperature at the head bolt joint as a function of time during engine thermal cycling. This
temperature was then input as the thermal loading in the subsequent structural analysis to calculate its effect on the bolt-load
retention. The finite element analysis (FEA) model for the bolt-load retention simulation includes not only the plasticity
in all metal components but also the creep properties of head bolt threads in the cast aluminum engine block. The FEA model
was validated by good correlation between the predicted head bolt-load loss and the experimental measurement during engine
thermal cycling. The simulation results also indicated that creep in the head bolt threads of cast aluminum engine block was
mainly responsible for the load loss in the head bolt joint.

Fatigue properties of cast aluminum components are controlled by maximum defect size in the material. The larger the maximum
defect size, the lower the fatigue strength and life. In the presence of casting defects, crack initiation can be ignored
and fatigue life is mainly spent in crack propagation. Therefore, fatigue life of aluminum castings can be predicted by long
or short crack growth models. The main problem is defining a starting defect size from readily available data, such as twodimensional
(2-D) pore size measurements on metallographic sections. In this article, an extremevalue statistics (EVS) method was used
to estimate the maximum defect size in 319 castings from conventional metallographic data. The maximum defect size predicted
by EVS agrees quite well with the initiation defect sizes measured from fracture surfaces, and the predicted fatigue life

The possible hypocholesterolaemic properties of milk and fermented milk products have been investigated in groups of albino rats given a basal diet, basal diet plus cholesterol, and basal diet plus cholesterol together with whole milk or standard or bifidus yogurt. The yogurts were fortified with skim milk powder, condensed whey or lactose-hydrolysed condensed whey. After 30 d, triacylglycerols, total cholesterol, HDL-cholesterol and LDL-cholesterol were measured in serum. Whole milk and ordinary yogurt had no hypocholesterolaemic effect, but standard yogurt containing lactose-hydrolysed condensed whey and all bifidus yogurts lowered serum cholesterol. In general, yogurts changed HDL-cholesterol little, but tended to raise triacylglycerols. There was marked lowering of LDL-cholesterol in rats given either type of yogurt fortified with whey proteins. This study has demonstrated in a rat model that bifidus yogurts and yogurts fortified with whey proteins can reduce total and LDL-cholesterol, and suggests that if they have the same effect in human subjects they have potential value in cholesterol-lowering diets. 相似文献

A multilayer AIN-W cofired body has been developed using the pressless sintering technique. Effects of additives, such as Y2O3, CaO, La2O3, MgO, Al2O3 and SiO2, on the sheet resistance of W conductor were studied. The sheet resistance of the W conductor increases with increasing additives in the W paste. However, the oxides can be divided into two groups. The authors report a novel approach whereby transmission-line end effects can be assessed by numerical simulation without recourse to the evaluation of the propagation properties of the line interconnecting the termination and excitation signal launch planes. As an example of the new technique, a microstrip open-ended line termination simulated by the finite-difference time-domain method is reported. The simulated results are compared with those obtained for the same structure but by a conventional numerical de-embedding scheme.
