The present work sets out to investigate the structure and chemistry of surface treated oxides (either aged in boiling water or air-heated) with improved dissolution resistance compared to conventionally passivated surfaces. X-ray photoelectron spectroscopy (XPS) has demonstrated a significant reduction in oxidized aluminium associated with an ageing-based surface treatment. Angle-dependent XPS has revealed an increase in amphoteric-OH surface sites for the thermal treatments. Atomic force microscopy (AFM) investigation suggests that these sites play a role in the improved proteinadsorption properties of these surfaces. These observations form the basis of a model which describes the influence of surface oxide on the kinetics of metal ion dissolution. 相似文献

A technique combining semiconductor processing and fiber-optic technology has been developed to micromachine a 1-cm2 silicon die that rolls on two wheels above a flat substrate. Each wheel consists of a glass capillary surrounding a fixed solid glass fiber axle. A 100-silicon die is anisotropically etched to create two variable width v-grooves. Each v-groove has a wide center section and two narrow ends, which is schematically illustrated as -==-. The capillary is free to rotate about the axle in the wide v-groove section while the axle is anodically bonded into the narrow v-groove ends. The gap between the die and the substrate is determined by the narrow v-groove width, fiber diameter, and capillary wall thickness. Several rolling die have been fabricated with 210-120 μm gaps. The coefficient of static friction (μS) has been investigated on several substrates as a function of the load on the die. Values for μS are compared to an unetched die with a silicon nitride coating. Abstract: This paper describes a system of shallow and deep knowledge acquisition and representation for diagnostic expert systems. The acquisition system is integrated into a diagnostic expert system shell. Shallow knowledge is represented in a failure model as a set of cause-effect relations among the possible faults, while deep knowledge is represented in three deep models: a functional, a deep causal and a taxonomic model. The acquisition and the representation of all the models are fully integrated. This experiment was designed to use the graded dose-related amnesia produced by the benzodiazepine lorazepam (1.0, 2.0 mg/70 kg, oral) and the anticholinergic scopolamine (0.3, 0.6 mg/70 kg, subcutaneous) as a tool to explore the cognitive and neurochemical mechanisms underlying metamemory in the judgment of learning paradigm, with a placebo-controlled independent groups design in healthy volunteers (n=12/group). Results provide evidence for a pharmacological dissociation between effects on memory versus metamemory (relative accuracy of item-by-item monitoring) across a range of levels of memory performance and suggest that the drugs selectively impair those aspects of metamnemonic monitoring that require participants' awareness of their overall current state of functioning (absolute accuracy of prospective item-by-item monitoring, prospective global monitoring) but not those that rely solely on assessment of individual item characteristics (relative accuracy of item-by-item monitoring). A simplified method for the preparation of particles from liquid suspensions has been developed. Particles are deposited directly on carbon planchets for rapid analysis by environmental scanning electron microscopy or by conventional scanning electron microscopy after an additional drying step. This is accomplished by filtering the liquid through thin carbon planchets. Three different grades of graphite were investigated for their suitability as the source material for these planchets. The high quality isomolded graphite is recommended for the filtration and direct observation of particles by electron microscopy. A pulse sequence generator for NMR relaxometer is described. The operation mode is loaded into the internal memory of the device by a program from a personal computer via a PCI bus. The project is realized on two MAX7000S and Cyclone (Altera) chips using the Qartus II 4.0 software. The basic parameters of the device are as follows: the minimal pulse length is 50 ns, the time resolution is 10 ns, the maximum number of pulses is 1024, and the number of controlled output channels is 8. Due to the reduction of the ozone layer, there is an increasing need of effective UV protection systems with minimized side-effects. Trans-2-ethylhexyl- p -methoxycinnamate ( trans -EHMC) represents one of the most widely used sunscreen compound. Several studies demonstrated that trans -EHMC is unstable following UV irradiation both in solution and in emulsion formulations. Moreover, various reports of photocontact sensitization induced by trans -EHMC have appeared in the literature. Consequently, in order to ensure adequate efficacy and safety for this sunscreen agent, there is a need for new carrier systems to enhance trans -EHMC photostability. In the present study the photostability of the filter in different formulation types (emulsion–gel, gel and emulsion) with various ingredients is evaluated. In addition, nanoparticles based on poly- D , L -lactide-co-glycolide (PLGA) as carrier for trans -EHMC are investigated. The influence of nanoparticle matrix on the photochemical stability of the sunscreen agent is also presented. The results obtained demonstrated that PLGA nanoparticles are effective in reducing the light-induced degradation of the sunscreen agent. Moreover, the choice of formulation type and the excipients used play an important role in order to obtain a stable cosmetic product containing trans -EHMC. 相似文献
