The flow and agglomeration of wet particles in a bladed mixer was studied experimentally using particle image velocimetry and computationally using the discrete element method. The experimental and computational work showed that particle beds at low moisture contents are characterized by enhanced convective and diffusive particle motion as well as enhanced mixing kinetics when compared to dry particle beds. This behavior is attributed to the development of small particle agglomerates which behave like rough, nonspherical particles and enable the transfer of energy from the blades to the particle bed. At higher moisture contents, a different behavior was observed. Particle convective and diffusive motion was hindered by the presence of moisture at higher levels leading to a decrease in mixing performance. This occurs as large agglomerates are formed and are not broken apart by shear leading to poor mixing. Pressure and shear stress profiles were shown to be affected by the amount of moisture in the system. The extent of agglomeration at different moisture contents was quantified via the discrete element simulations. In this paper, a simple model is presented. It allows to give an approximation of the thermal contact resistance for a solid-solid contact showing several levels of defects (flatness, roughness, …) and including therefore several scales in the constriction of the flux lines. According to this approach, the thermal contact is modeled using three intrinsic resistances (interstitial fluid resistance, resistance of asperities, constriction resistance). This allows a direct calculation, only valid for low levels of the ratio of the local contact over non-contact areas. Then the assumption is made that the constriction phenomena are independent from the resistance scale. Finally, a periodic distribution is considered for the surface defects. 相似文献

A simple technique for the fast sampling of biological tissues for electron paramagnetic resonance (EPR) spectroscopy is described. By using tube-like stainless steel cutter, a cylindrical piece of tissue is dissected free; while holding the sample and cutter on a silicone rubber cutting base, the sample is transferred directly into the EPR test tube by pushing the tube into the instrument. The main features of the technique are its simplicity, speed, elimination of the necessity to manipulate frozen tissue (e.g., breaking, chopping, etc.), precise information on the sample volume, the ability to adjust sample size according to need, and avoidance of the use any foreign compounds (such as spin traps). The technique has been successfully applied to the EPR detection of free radicals in rabbit spinal cord exposed to ischemia. This paper presents a statement of the works performed in L.E.M.T.A by the members of the thermal and mechanical heterogeneous
media research group during the last six years concerning the solving of coupled conductive and radiative heat transfers within
a multilayer and semi-transparent “wall”. Out of the authors, this paper allows to take inspiration from the works of D. Maillet,
M. Lazard and V. Manias[19, 20, 21]. The aim of these works is to represent in a macroscopic way, with the minimum number of thermophysical parameters, the heat
transfers in a plane system composed of semi-transparent media. The approach we propose is semi-analytic (Kernel substitution
technique, Laplace transformation) and allow to obtain in the Laplace domain an analytical solution that can be easily used.
This method can be applied in two main scopes of applications: the estimation of thermophysical properties (phononic conductivity,
optical thickness, Planck number for instance) of semi-transparent materials (glasses, crystals, glass wool, semi-conductors,
synthetic diamonds, vitroceramics and so on) and the modelling of processes with semitransparent walls (for instance bottles
forming, flat glass production, drying of paper). The method will be first presented and validated and two examples of applications
will be then given. This method can be applied to semitransparent walls that emit, absorb and scatter the radiant energy (participating
medium). It appears from the principle of a Kernel substitution technique applied to the radiative flux expression and initially
introduced by Lick[1] that allows to change the character of the governing heat equation from the integro-differential form to a purely differential
one. In the case of limiting cases of purely scattering and purely absorbing media, the solution of the radiative transfer
equation is exact. In the general case, we make a two-flux approximation. In all cases, we assume a linear transfer and use
the Laplace transform. The method can be applied to grey or grey by bands media, with isotropic or anisotropic scattering.

Abstract: Strawberry guava (Psidium cattleianum Sabine) is a native fruit of Brazil widely consumed fresh and used in the food industry. In this context, the present study deals with the chemical characterization and the antioxidant activity of the red (Psidium cattleianum) and yellow (P. cattleianum var. lucidum Hort.) strawberry guava fruits, cultivars Irapuã and Ya‐Cy, respectively. Knowledge of chemical composition is fundamental to human nutrition, contributing to the quality of foods. Phenolic compounds in both fruits were analyzed by HPLC–DAD and the total flavonoid content was determined by the Folin–Ciocalteu assay. The antioxidant activity was evaluated by the total reactive antioxidant (TRAP) method. Psidium cattleianum presented a higher content of polyphenolic compounds than P. cattleianum var. lucidum (501.33 and 292.03 mg/100 g, respectively), with hyperoside being one of the major flavonoids identified for both cultivars. In addition to flavonoids, P. cattleianum presented an anthocyanin, identified as cyanidin. The antioxidant activity varied in a concentration‐dependent manner for both strawberry guava species. The volatile oils in fruits and fatty acids in seeds were quantified by GC‐EM. The analysis of the essential oil of yellow strawberry guava was compared with a previous study on the red cultivar, revealing β‐caryophyllene as the main component in both oils. The fatty acid composition was also quite similar and was especially characterized by the presence of unsaturated fatty acids (86.25% and 76%, respectively), among which linoleic acid as the most abundant. Practical Application: In this study, the chemical characterization and the antioxidant activity of the red (Psidium cattleianum) and yellow (P. cattleianum var. lucidum Hort.) strawberry guava fruits were investigated.
