In this paper we propose and compare different distributed video coding (DVC) schemes based on the use of the wavelet transform,
which naturally allows for spatial and other forms of scalability. In particular, we propose a hybrid encoder which utilizes
channel codes, and evaluate its performance in the absence of a feedback channel. The proposed scheme uses statistical models
for the estimation of the required bitrate at the encoder. We also propose a scheme that is based on a modulo reduction procedure
and does not use channel codes at the receiver/transmitter. These schemes are compared with more conventional coders that
do not or only partially exploit the distributed coding paradigm. Experimental results show that the considered schemes have
good performance when compared with similar asymmetric video compression schemes, and that DVC can be an interesting option

Without the definition of a mandatory scheduling algorithm for channel resource assignment, WiMAX is open to Quality of Service (QoS) enhancements by research groups and developers, at the aim of managing heterogeneous flows with different QoS requirements. Furthermore, besides performance enhancement, another key issue arises for QoS delivery: it is known as multi-rate fairness and it deals with efficient resource allocation for providing sufficient bandwidth to high rate flows, without penalizing low rate ones. In this paper, uplink scheduling algorithms are studied and an innovative solution is proposed to achieve performance enhancement, multi-rate fairness and improved QoS management. After an overview of the state of the art, two scheduling algorithms based on Deficit Round Robin are studied, implemented and tested in NS2 simulator. The schedulers are validated and compared through exhaustive simulations, showing the benefits coming from the adoption of the proposed scheduling mechanism. 相似文献

Methods for the manipulation of single magnetic particles have become very interesting, in particular for in vitro biological studies. Most of these studies require an external microscope to provide the operator with feedback for controlling the particle motion, thus preventing the use of magnetic particles in high‐throughput experiments. In this paper, a simple and compact system with integrated electrical feedback is presented, implementing in the very same device both the manipulation and detection of the transit of single particles. The proposed platform is based on zig‐zag shaped magnetic nanostructures, where transverse magnetic domain walls are pinned at the corners and attract magnetic particles in suspension. By applying suitable external magnetic fields, the domain walls move to the nearest corner, thus causing the step by step displacement of the particles along the nanostructure. The very same structure is also employed for detecting the bead transit. Indeed, the presence of the magnetic particle in suspension over the domain wall affects the depinning field required for its displacement. This characteristic field can be monitored through anisotropic magnetoresistance measurements, thus implementing an integrated electrical feedback of the bead transit. In particular, the individual manipulation and detection of single 1‐μm sized beads is demonstrated. 相似文献

A new family of 9,9-bisalkylfluorene (F)/thiophene (T)/benzothiadiazole (B) π-conjugated copolymers for organic solar cells
is reported. The structure of the reported copolymers is pseudorandom: in turn each F, T, B monomer unit is alternated to
the other randomly distributed two units. Voltammetric, UV–visible, and photoluminescence measurements have been carried out
to assess the optical and electronic properties of the synthesized materials. The occurring of photoinduced charge transfer
towards a fullerene electron acceptor was investigated by photoluminescence quenching and light-induced electron spin resonance
experiments. The copolymer having alternating thiophene monomer units and randomly distributed fluorene and benzothiadiazole
units exhibits the most promising characteristics; the photophysic study shows that such polymer/fullerene blend could represent

Structural disambiguation is acknowledged as a very real and frequent problem for many semantic-aware applications. In this paper, we propose a unified answer to sense disambiguation on a large variety of structures both at data and metadata level such as relational schemas, XML data and schemas, taxonomies, and ontologies. Our knowledge-based approach achieves a general applicability by converting the input structures into a common format and by allowing users to tailor the extraction of the context to the specific application needs and structure characteristics. Flexibility is ensured by supporting the combination of different disambiguation methods together with different information extracted from different sources of knowledge. Further, we support both assisted and completely automatic semantic annotation tasks, while several novel feedback techniques allow us to improve the initial disambiguation results without necessarily requiring user intervention. An extensive evaluation of the obtained results shows the good effectiveness of the proposed solutions on a large variety of structure-based information and disambiguation requirements. 相似文献

Colorization refers to an image processing task which recovers color in grayscale images when only small regions with color are given. We propose a couple of variational models using chromaticity color components to colorize black and white images. We first consider total variation minimizing (TV) colorization which is an extension from TV inpainting to color using chromaticity model. Second, we further modify our model to weighted harmonic maps for colorization. This model adds edge information from the brightness data, while it reconstructs smooth color values for each homogeneous region. We introduce penalized versions of the variational models, we analyze their convergence properties, and we present numerical results including extension to texture colorization. 相似文献

The use of model predictive control (MPC) in middle-vessel continuous distillation column (MVCC) is discussed. It is shown that using a 5 × 5 MPC implementation (where all levels are included in MPC as integral process variables) allows using a smaller middle-vessel, particularly when disturbances can be measured: a good performance is ensured without having the middle vessel drained or overfilled. Also, it is shown that MPC practically circumvents the issue of tuning the middle-vessel level controller. Recent evidence suggests that the human sleep electroencephalogram (EEG) shows regional differences over both the sagittal and coronal planes. In the present study, in a group of 10 right-handers, the authors investigated the presence of hemispheric asymmetries in the homeostatic regulation of human sleep EEG power during and after selective slow-wave sleep (SWS) deprivation. The SWS deprivation was slightly more effective over the right hemisphere, but the left hemisphere showed a markedly larger increase of EEG power in the 1.00-24.75 Hz range during recovery-night non-REM sleep, and a larger increase of EEG power during both deprivation-night and recovery-night REM sleep. These results support the greater need for sleep recuperative processes of the left hemisphere, suggesting that local sleep regulation processes may also act during REM sleep.
