Fire performance of water‐based plaster systems containing acrylic copolymer binder and non‐flammable mineral and ceramic fillers intended for decorative coating application was determined by cone calorimetric method. The coatings were applied on common building substrate materials used in construction sector, namely, Medium Density Fibre (MDF) boards, Gypsum Boards (GIB) and Stainless Steel (SS), and the different plaster finishes attempted on these substrates were Tierrafino, Suave and Bone China respectively. Group numbers of the different test samples were also evaluated following the Kokkala method. Based on various measurements, especially heat release, smoke evolution, mass loss data and the Group number estimates, it is evident that these organic fire retardant free coatings can offer good fire safety if applied on appropriate substrates like GIB or SS. Aliquat-336-based strongly hydrophobic ionic liquid, tri-n-octylmethylammonium diglycolamate ([A336]+[DGA]?), was prepared and impregnated in Amberlite XAD-7 (abbreviated as [A336]+[DGA]?/XAD-7) for studying the extraction behavior of Am(III) and Eu(III) from nitric acid medium. The distribution ratio of Am(III) and Eu(III) in [A336]+[DGA]?/XAD-7 decreased with an increase in the concentration of nitric acid and the mechanism of trivalent metal ion extraction in the resin phase was elucidated. The uptake of Am(III) and Eu(III) in [A336]+[DGA]?/XAD-7 followed a second order and from the Langmuir adsorption model the apparent europium extraction capacity was determined. Sampling for culturable (e.g., viable) aerosolized microbes (bioaerosols) is a useful means to provide information for public health monitoring and studies. However, it is challenging to maintain microbe culturability when sampling at high flow rates (>12 L/min) and extended periods of time (≥4 h). We developed a first-generation, viable bioaerosol collection system (VBCS) utilizing temperature (T) and relative humidity (RH)–conditioned filtration at a flow rate of 25 L/min. A two-stage system of tube-in-shell Nafion? exchange units provides cooling to ≤10°C and RH conditioning to 80–95%. Aerosol particles are collected on a polyurethane nanofiber filter providing a physical collection efficiency of >95% for sizes 0.06–10 µm. The T and RH conditions at the collection filter are maintained, despite changes to ambient conditions. The initial testing of the VBCS was done under indoor, laboratory conditions with aerosolized, vegetative E. coli. A scenario of a 30-min challenge of bioaerosol followed by continued sampling of clean air for various times was used to judge culturability maintenance under extended-term sampling. An initial loss of culturability upon collection onto the filter was observed; 23 ± 13% relative to 4-mm all-glass impinger. However once collected, 98% of culturability was maintained for an additional 4.5 h of sampling. An exponential decay in culturability was observed from 8 h to 15 h of sampling. Also, 24-h cold storage of the filters collected was studied. The VBCS is based on the use of dry filter cassettes, needs minimal maintenance, and preserves culturability of vegetative bacteria for >4 h.© 2017 RTI International and Aerosol Dynamics Inc. 相似文献

Poly(lactide) (PLA) and poly(methyl methacrylate) (PMMA) are melt compounded with chopped glass fiber using laboratory scale twin‐screw extrusion. Physical properties are examined using differential scanning calorimetry (DSC), dynamic mechanical thermal analysis (DMTA), thermogravimetric analysis (TGA), tensile testing, impact testing, X‐ray computed tomography (CT) scanning, and field emission scanning electron microscopy (FE‐SEM). Molecular weight is determined using gel permeation chromatography (GPC). Miscibility of the blends is implied by the presence of a single glass transition temperature and homogeneous morphology. PLA/PMMA blends tend to show positive deviations from a simple linear mixing rule in their mechanical properties (e.g., tensile toughness, modulus, and stress at break). The addition of 40 wt % glass fiber to the system dramatically increases physical properties. Across all blend compositions, the tensile modulus increases from roughly 3 GPa to roughly 10 GPa. Estimated heat distortion temperatures (HDTs) are also greatly enhanced; the pure PLA sample HDT increases from 75 °C to 135 °C. Fiber filled polymer blends represent a sustainable class of earth abundant materials which should prove useful across a range of applications. © 2017 Wiley Periodicals, Inc. J. Appl. Polym. The oxidative dehydrogenation of a 1‐butene/trans‐butene (1:1) mixture to 1,3‐butadiene was carried out in a two‐zone fluidized bed reactor using a Mo‐V‐MgO and a γ‐Bi2MoO6 catalyst. The significant operating conditions temperature, oxygen/butene molar ratio, butene inlet height, and flow velocity were varied to gain high 1,3‐butadiene selectivity and yield. Furthermore, axial concentration profiles were measured inside the fluidized bed to gain insight into the reaction network in the two zones. For optimized conditions and with a suitable catalyst, the two‐zone fluidized bed reactor makes catalyst regeneration and catalytic reaction possible in a single vessel. In the lower part of the fluidized bed, the oxidation of coke deposits on the catalyst as well as the filling of oxygen vacancies in the lattice can occur. The oxidative dehydrogenation reaction takes place in the upper zone. Vitrectomy and pneumatic retinopexy are common surgical procedures used to treat retinal detachment. To reattach the retina, gases are used to inflate the vitreous space allowing the retina to attach by surface tension and buoyancy forces that are superior to the location of the bubble. These procedures require the injection of either a pure tamponade gas, such as C3F8 or SF6, or mixtures of these gases with air. The location of the retinal detachment, the anatomical spread of the retinal defect, and the length of time the defect has persisted, will determine the suggested volume and duration of the gas bubble to allow reattachment. After inflation, the gases are slowly absorbed by the blood allowing the vitreous to be refilled by aqueous. We have developed a model of the mass transfer dynamics of tamponade gases during pneumatic retinopexy or pars plana vitrectomy procedures. The model predicts the expansion and persistence of intraocular gases (C3F8, SF6), oxygen, nitrogen, and carbon dioxide, as well as the intraocular pressure. The model was validated using published literature in rabbits and humans. In addition to correlating the mass transfer dynamics by surface area, permeability, and partial pressure driving forces, the mass transfer dynamics are affected by the percentage of the tamponade gases. Rates were also correlated with the physical properties of the tamponade and blood gases. We use multiscale modeling to study how the molecular properties of a protein affect its adsorption and transport in ion exchange chromatography matrices with either open pores or charged polymers grafted into the pore structure. Coarse‐grained molecular dynamics (MD) simulations of lysozyme, bovine serum albumin, and immunoglobulin show that higher protein net charge leads to greater partitioning into the polymer‐grafted pore space but slower diffusion there due to favorable electrostatic interactions, while larger size decreases both pore space partitioning and diffusion due to steric effects of the polymers. Mass transfer simulations based on the MD results show that the polymer‐grafted systems can enhance the adsorption kinetics if pore space partitioning and diffusion are both sufficiently high. The simulations illustrate that to achieve fast adsorption kinetics, there is a tradeoff between favorable binding and rapid diffusion which largely depends on the charge and size of the protein. © 2017 American Institute of Chemical Engineers AIChE J, 63: 4564–4575, 2017 相似文献

Energy demand, decreasing fossil fuel reserves, and health-related issues about pollutants have led researchers to search for renewable alternative fuels to either partially or fully replace fossil fuels. Among many alternative fuels, biodiesel became one of the most popular choices due to similar properties to that of conventional diesel. Biodiesel produces slightly lower brake thermal efficiency compared to that of conventional biodiesel, but has an advantage of reduced emissions of CO2, CO, HC, and smoke. However, biodiesel shows higher NOx emission which, when used in increased biodiesel market, may become a serious problem. Various strategies were attempted by different researcher to reduce NOx emissions. In this paper, various strategies, adapted for reducing NOx emissions of biodiesel fuel used in diesel engines for automobile applications, are reviewed and discussed. The strategies are grouped into three major groups, namely combustion treatments, exhaust after-treatments, and fuel treatments. Among various strategies discussed, fuel treatments, such as low temperature combustion, mixing fuel additives and reformulating fuel composition, reduce NOx emission without compromising other emission and performance characteristics and they seem to be promising for future biodiesel fuel. 相似文献

The solubility of tri-iso-amyl phosphate (TiAP) in supercritical carbon dioxide (SCCO2) was determined at 313–333 K with pressure ranging from 10 to 25 MPa. The solubility data of TiAP in SCCO2 medium were correlated using four semi-empirical models. Selective extraction of uranium from simulated dissolver solution was demonstrated using SCCO2 modified with TiAP. The extraction efficiency of uranium was found to be 95 ± 5%. The influence of temperature, pressure and acidity on the extraction of uranium was studied. An attempt was made to explain the plausible extraction mechanism. 相似文献
