This study investigated the impact of thermoplastic extrusion on the nutritive quality of bovine rumen protein. Proximal composition, amino acid profile and in vivo true protein digestibility among rats were determined in raw (RBR) and extruded (EBR) rumen. Raw and extruded bovine rumen presented high percentages of protein (more than 95% on dry basis). Neither raw nor extruded proteins had any limiting amino acid, and the RBR and EBR amino acid scores were, respectively, 1.28 (leucine) and 1.25 (methionine plus cystine). Extrusion reduced significantly true protein digestibility from 97.7% to 93.1% (p < 0.001), but protein digestibility-corrected amino acid scores for both proteins (RBR and EBR) were 100%. Animal growth presented comparable profiles using raw and extruded rumen. In conclusion, thermoplastic extrusion did not affect the protein quality of bovine rumen, and this does not hinder the use of this material as a food ingredient.  相似文献

This paper reports on findings from a study of teamwork in primary care in one family health services authority in England. It is based on interviews using a semi-structured questionnaire with practice nurses, district nurses, health visitors and midwives in 20 practices. Six topics emerged as important in relation to the views of nurses, midwives and health visitors and their experiences of teamwork: team identity; leadership; access to general practitioners; philosophies of care; understanding of team members' roles and responsibilities; and, disagreement regarding roles and responsibilities. Differences in the various views and experiences of teamwork were identified. Midwives and health visitors emerged as the least integrated members of the primary health care team. Recent changes to the organization of primary health care services, as well as professional changes, are seen as accounting for the different experiences of the nursing groups. The potential for teamwork in the future is discussed.  相似文献

Research is a basic element of good sanctuary management. The kinds of research necessary to deal with management problems include: survey and assessment, characterization, monitoring, experimental work, and modeling. The Monterey Bay National Marine Sanctuary is the largest, deepest, and ecologically speaking, perhaps the most complex region for which NOAA's Marine Sanctuary Program has research and management responsibilities. Monterey Bay is also home to a unique grouping of institutions, which taken together, comprise a powerful and growing synergy for the evolution of research technology and methods. The Bay's proximity to Silicon Valley and its long tradition of classical marine research are both strongly evident factors in this evolutionary process. Examples of new technologies that have significant applicability to sanctuary research requirements everywhere are outlined  相似文献

The present study was designed to compare direct health service expenditures, for the treatment of depression, among patients enrolled in a health maintenance organization, and prescribed one of three selective serotonin reuptake inhibitors, fluoxetine, paroxetine or sertraline. Information regarding depression-related health service use was derived from the computer archive of a network-model health maintenance organization system serving 700,000 beneficiaries. A total of 744 health maintenance organization beneficiaries were found to satisfy the study selection criteria. Multivariate regression analysis was used to determine the incremental influence of selected demographic, clinical, financial and provider characteristics on health service expenditures related to the treatment of depression (ICD-9-CM, or DSM-IV code 296.2) 1 year after the start of antidepressant pharmacotherapy. Multivariate findings indicate that treatment with paroxetine increases average expenditures for physician visits ($31.93; P < or = 0.05), psychiatric visits ($19.33; NS), laboratory tests ($2.35; P < or = 0.05), hospitalizations ($85.33; P < or = 0.05), psychiatric hospitalizations ($82.01; P < or = 0.05), and antidepressant pharmacotherapy ($63.72; P < or = 0.05), for a total per capita increase in health service use of $284.68 (P < or = 0.05), compared with treatment with fluoxetine. Sertraline treatment increases average expenditures for physician visits ($21.74; P < or = 0.05), psychiatric visits ($56.79; P < or = 0.05), laboratory tests ($1.21; P < or = 0.05), hospitalizations ($70.59; P < or = 0.05), psychiatric hospitalizations ($95.75; P < or = 0.05), and antidepressant pharmacotherapy ($69.85; P < or = 0.05), for a total per capita increase in health service use of $315.96 (P < or = 0.05), compared with treatment with fluoxetine. Economic comparisons between paroxetine and sertraline did not demonstrate any significant differences in expenditures for the health services examined.  相似文献

Three water‐soluble polymers incorporating increasing levels of 2,3‐dihydroxy propyl attached to polyethylenimine (PEI) backbone were synthesized, characterized by NMR, and investigated for their ability to bind boric acid (BA). 11B NMR spectroscopy showed that BA interacted with the polymeric 2,3‐dihydroxy propyls by forming borate monoester and borate diesters in the boron concentration range of 100–1000 ppm and at 0.0775M polymer. Borate monoester species predominated for low functionalization levels (33% of the PEI amines functionalized), whereas borate diester species dominated for the higher functionalized polymers (66–100% of the PEI amines functionalized). All three polymers showed that 100% of the BA was bound as a mixture of borate mono‐ and diesters at 100‐ppm boron. The overall best performer based on total borate ester formation was the 2/3‐PEI, with a binding Kd of 631 at 200 ppm boron. Borate ion concentration was measured from the 11B NMR chemical shift of the BA/borate peak and it decreased as 1/3‐PEI > 2/3‐PEI > 3/3‐PEI. Variable temperature 11B NMR showed drastic reduction of borate ester species at 65°C. Thus, PEI polymers, as the ones investigated in this work, are reasonable candidates for the selective recovery and recycle of BA. © 2006 Wiley Periodicals, Inc. Nanofluids have been introduced as new-generation fluids able to improve energy efficiency in heat exchangers. However, stability problems related to both agglomeration and sedimentation of nanoparticles have limited industrial-level scaling. A fractional factorial experimental 2k?1 design was applied in order to evaluate the effects of nanoparticle concentration, surfactant type and concentration, ultrasonic amplitude as well as ultrasonic time on the stability of alumina (Al2O3) nanofluids. Commercial alumina nanoparticles (particle diameter <50 nm) were dispersed in deionized water using ultrasonic probe dispersion equipment. Sodium dodecylbenzenesulfonate (SDBS) and cetyltrimethylammonium bromide (CTAB) were used as surfactants. The stability of the nanofluids in static mode was monitored by visual inspection and UV visible spectroscopy. The results of the experimental design showed that the coupled effects between surfactant type and surfactant concentration and between ultrasonication tip amplitude and ultrasonication time had the most pronounced effects on nanofluid stability. The experimental conditions providing the best stability were 0.5 wt% of Al2O3, CTAB, critical micelle surfactant concentration, 30% ultrasonic amplitude and 30 min of ultrasonication.  相似文献
