This study was undertaken to examine the osseous tissue compatibility of polylactic acid (PLA) with properties of bioabsorbability and plasticity. Two kinds of granular PLA with different molecular weight (PLA-H: 28 000 MW, PLA-L: 10 600 MW) were implanted into rat tibiae and light microscopic sections were prepared at 1, 2, 4, 8, 16, and 24 weeks following surgery. The tissue compatibility of the PLAs was compared with that of hydroxyapatite (HAP) which is a non-absorbable biocompatible material. After implantation, both PLAs were gradually absorbed and replaced by marrow tissue at 24 weeks. PLA-H degraded slower than PLA-L. New bone formation was observed around each PLA by 4 weeks, and a vast amount of bone deposited on PLA-H at 16 weeks. Phagocytic reactions to the PLAs were noted, however, severe inflammation was not seen. HAP was not absorbed and bone surrounded it throughout the experiment. These results indicate good tissue compatibility of PLA as a bioabsorbable material at the skeletal site.  相似文献

Serum p53 protein levels were measured in 36 patients with small cell lung cancer (SCLC) and 35 patients with benign lung diseases in order to evaluate the relationship of these levels to clinicopathological features of SCLC. Serum levels of p53 protein were measured by an enzyme-linked immunosorbent assay, p53 protein level was 23.92 +/- 6.78 pg/ml in patients with SCLC, and similar to that (17.47 +/- 2.86 pg/ml) in patients with benign lung diseases. By the clinical stage of SCLC, the mean level of p53 protein was 16.68 +/- 4.62 pg/ml in 21 patients with limited disease, and lower than that in 15 patients with extensive disease (34.05 +/- 14.84 pg/ml) (P = 0.23). The levels of p53 protein were not correlated with age, smoking index, or presence of cancer history for patients with SCLC. However, immunohistochemical examination disclosed a mild correlation between the expression of p53 protein by SCLC tumor and p53 protein serum level (r = 0.45, P = 0.02). Two patients with SCLC had an elevated serum level of p53 protein (> 2 S.D. above the mean for benign lung diseases). However, measurement of p53 protein serum level was not found to be clinically useful for detection of SCLC.  相似文献

Accumulating evidence has demonstrated that the pathogenesis of epilepsy is linked to neuroinflammation and cerebrovascular dysfunction. Peripheral immune cell invasion into the brain, along with these responses, is implicitly involved in epilepsy. This review explored the current literature on the association between the peripheral and central nervous systems in the pathogenesis of epilepsy, and highlights novel research directions for therapeutic interventions targeting these reactions. Previous experimental and human studies have demonstrated the activation of the innate and adaptive immune responses in the brain. The time required for monocytes (responsible for innate immunity) and T cells (involved in acquired immunity) to invade the central nervous system after a seizure varies. Moreover, the time between the leakage associated with blood–brain barrier (BBB) failure and the infiltration of these cells varies. This suggests that cell infiltration is not merely a secondary disruptive event associated with BBB failure, but also a non-disruptive event facilitated by various mediators produced by the neurovascular unit consisting of neurons, perivascular astrocytes, microglia, pericytes, and endothelial cells. Moreover, genetic manipulation has enabled the differentiation between peripheral monocytes and resident microglia, which was previously considered difficult. Thus, the evidence suggests that peripheral monocytes may contribute to the pathogenesis of seizures.  相似文献

Conformationally constrained peptides hold promise as molecular tools in chemical biology and as a new modality in drug discovery. The construction and screening of a target-focused library could be a promising approach for the generation of de novo ligands or inhibitors against target proteins. Here, we have prepared a protein kinase-focused library by chemically modifying helix-loop-helix (HLH) peptides displayed on phage and subsequently tethered to adenosine. The library was screened against aurora kinase A (AurA). The selected HLH peptide Bip - 3 retained the α-helical structure and bound to AurA with a KD value of 13.7 μM. Bip - 3 and the adenosine-tethered peptide Bip - 3 - Adc provided IC50 values of 103 μM and 7.7 μM, respectively, suggesting that Bip - 3 - Adc bivalently inhibited AurA. In addition, the selectivity of Bip - 3 - Adc to several protein kinases was tested, and was highest against AurA. These results demonstrate that chemical modification can enable the construction of a kinase-focused library of phage-displayed HLH peptides.  相似文献

The crystallization and polymorphic behavior of palm stearin (PS) in a bulk state and in oil-in-water (O/W) emulsion droplets (average diameter, 1.7±0.3 μm) was observed by using DSC, optical microscopy, and in situ X-ray diffraction with synchrotron radiation (SR-XRD). For the bulk sample the DSC measurements revealed three main exothermic peaks at approximately 31 (large), 21 (small) and 3°C (medium) on cooling, and broad endothermic peaks at approximate −3 (small), 8, 15 to 25 (medium), and 37 and 53°C upon heating. The SR-XRD patterns taken during cooling from 60 to −5°C clarified that the DSC exothermic peaks around 31 and 3°C corresponded to crystallization of the α form of high-melting and low-melting fractions, respectively, and that the occurrence of β′ corresponded to the small exothermic peak around 21°C. The XR-XRD patterns taken during heating from −5 to 60°C demonstrated that the DSC endothermic peaks corresponded to the following transformation processes: melting of α of the low-melting fraction (−3°C), melt-mediated transformation from α to ∇′ (15–25°C), melting of β′ (36°C), and melting of β (53°C) of the high-melting fraction. As for the O/W emulsion sample, the DSC and SR-XRD measurements during the cooling and heating processes exhibited basically the same behavior as that of PS in the bulk state, except that β′ did not crystallize during the cooling process, and the temperatures of crystallization of α, melt-mediated α→β′→β transformation, and melting of β were lower in the emulsion droplets than in the bulk state.  相似文献

The positive temperature coefficient of resistivity (PTCR) behavior of semiconductive BaTiO3 is well explained by the Heywang model, which predicts the resistivity behavior above the Curie point based on the acceptor state density at the grain boundaries, the charge carrier density, and the energy gap, E s, between the conduction band and the acceptor levels. However, the relationship between these parameters and the production parameters (sintering time, composition, and cooling rate) is not well understood. Recently, the present authors have found that E s can be increased by thorough oxidation. This increase is attributed to a change in the oxidation state of the acceptor. Based on this finding and results from the literature, a phenomenological PTCR model and an accompanying PTCR chart for acceptor–donor-codoped BaTiO3 are proposed to clarify this relationship. The PTCR chart clarifies that acceptor dopant concentrations, oxidation time, and oxygen partial pressure during oxidation or cooling can be optimized simultaneously to obtain optical PTCR properties.  相似文献

Experimental evidence shows that the acceptor-state levels in Sb-doped positive-temperature-coefficient-type BaTiO3 are compensated up to a critical acceptor-state density. Using the slope of the natural logarithm of the resistivity with respect to 1/ T , instead of maximum resistivity as a measure for the acceptor-state density, it is possible to estimate this critical value. The value obtained (4.2 × 1017 m−2) is believed to be the first reported estimate based on experimental data. It is in good agreement with the estimate of 6 × 1017 m−2 (first reported by Jonker) obtained from the spontaneous polarization of BaTiO3. This shows that the ferroelectric behavior of BaTiO3 is indeed a feasible explanation for the low resistivity below the Curie point, as proposed by Jonker.  相似文献

Two kinds of fly ash, discharged in the combustion of either refused derived fuel (RDF) or car shredder dust (SD), were examined for the emission of heavy metals in melting process under oxidizing and reducing conditions. The residual fractions of heavy metal in slag were experimentally estimated. As a result, it was confirmed that several volatile heavy metals were readily emitted during melting process. The type of atmosphere provided for the melting process was found to affect the emission of some volatile metals in RDF ash, but not in SD ash. The emission of volatile heavy metals in RDF ash under oxidizing conditions was lower than under any other conditions in this study. The emission behavior of iron and heavy metals in RDF ash under reducing conditions was similar to that in SD ash. These facts indicated that phosphorous in RDF ash had the property of fixing the volatile metals in the slag only under oxidizing conditions. Then the mixture of SD ash with phosphorous oxide powder was also tested in a melting process, and the result was consistent with the above inference of the effect of phosphorous.  相似文献

Sci. 88(2):191–229, 1991) showed that every m-multiple context-free language L is weakly 2m-iterative in the sense that either L is finite or L contains a subset of the form \(\{ u_{0} w_{1}^{i} u_{1} \cdots w_{2m}^{i} u_{2m} \mid i \in \mathbb {N}\}\) , where w 1?w 2n ε. Whether every m-multiple context-free language L is 2m-iterative, that is to say, whether all but finitely many elements z of L can be written as z=u 0 w 1 u 1?w 2m u 2m with w 1?w 2m ε and \(\{ u_{0} w_{1}^{i} u_{1} \cdots w_{2m}^{i} u_{2m} \mid i \in \mathbb {N}\} \subseteq L\) , has been open. The distribution of HAF carbon black in SBR was studied with the electron microscope and Fraunhofer diffraction. The interparticle distance between black aggregates is 8000 Å at 20 phr and 7000 Å at 40 phr, but above 60 phr it spreads broadly in the vicinity of 4000 Å. The size of black aggregates at 20 phr extends from 300 Å to 3000 Å, and the average diameter is 1200 Å. At 40 phr and 60 phr, black trends to aggregate more than at 20 phr and the average diameter is about 1500–1600 Å; the maximum diameter exceeds 5000 Å. In a black aggregate, there are about 40 spherical particles independently of filler concentration. From the relation between the size and interparticle distance, the connection of black aggregates initiates at 40 phr level and affects the physical properties of filled rubber.  相似文献
