Local heat-transfer coefficients along a flat plate in natural convection in air were measured using Boelter-Schmidt type heat flux meters. Experiments were carried out for different temperature differences in heating and cooling, and with inclinations varying from the horizontal “facing upwards” position, through the vertical position, to the horizontal “facing downwards” position.
The results are presented in terms of local Nusselt number as a function of the local Grashof number “tangential component”. All runs were in the range accepted as that of laminar boundary layer flow. However, under certain conditions when the normal velocity component of the air is directed away from the surface, separated flow is indicated along the trailing part of the surface, well before turbulence sets in in the boundary layer. Separation starts at a certain point along the surface. This point is nearer to the leading edge the higher the temperature difference, and the larger the inclination of the surface to the vertical.
In a separation region, the flux density is uniform. In all other regions the results agreed closely with established theories of laminar boundary layer flow.
A leading adiabatic section, used in some of the experiments, did not affect the results. An appendix gives relations recommended for engineering calculations. 相似文献
This paper reports a discrimination study based on the physico‐chemical characteristics, fatty acids and profile of volatile compounds of the seeds from seven date palm varieties (Phoenix dactylifera L.) grown in Tunisia. Date seeds contained 10.49–14.76% moisture; 6.28–11.2% fat (on a dry weight basis); 2.67–12.85% protein; 0.91–6.06% reducing sugar; 0.61–2.98% sucrose and 0.97–1.17% ash. Gas liquid chromatography revealed that the oil fraction of the date palm seeds contained eighteen fatty acids, with oleic acid (30.77–42.50%) and lauric acid (18.51–27.48%) as the main unsaturated and saturated ones. Volatile profile showed differences among varieties. In total, forty‐five compounds were identified, mainly alcohols, aldehydes and unsaturated hydrocarbons ones. This study provides evidence that the seeds of date may be a potential source of valuable nutrients with interesting functionality. 相似文献
Supercharged diesel engines are a key element in diesel powertrains that have been extensively modelled yet often without explainable mathematical trends. The present paper demonstrates the analytical modelling of in-cylinder gas speed dynamics and engine brake power. These analytical models provide explainable mathematical trends. In addition, they provide gear-shifting-based modeling because the model parameters can be adjusted to reflect different driving conditions without the need for gathering field data. An unprecedented sensitivity analysis was conducted on these developed models for simplifying them. They were validated using experimental data and the relative error of the developed model of the in-cylinder gas speed dynamics was 9.8%. The study demonstrates with 73% coefficient of determination that the average percentage of deviation of the simulated results from the corresponding field data on the engine brake power is 6.9%. The relative error of the developed model of the engine brake power is 7%. These values of relative error are an order of magnitude of deviation that is less than that of widely recognized models in the field of vehicle powertrain modeling such as the CMEM and GT-Power. These analytically developed models serve as widely valid models. Having addressed and corrected flaws in the corresponding models, such as the model of the in-cylinder gas speed dynamics presented in a key reference in this research area, these developed models can help in better analyzing and assessing the performance of diesel engines.
Photoinitiated Polymerization with Dialkoxy Thiocarbonyl Disulfides – a Polymerization Reaction with Primary Radical Termination The photoinduced free radical polymerization of methyl methacrylate (MMA) and some other vinyl monomers using dialkoxy thiocarbonyl disulfides ( 1 – 4 ) as photoinitiators was studied. The photolysis of these initiators leads to cleavage of the S S bond, which was determined by spin trapping experiments with phenyl tert-butyl nitrone. No evidence was found for a further thermal decomposition of the primary alkoxy thiocarbonyl sulfide radicals (R·) at room temperature. In the absence of scavengers the primary radicals react back exclusively to the initial compounds, due to a strong cage effect. By means of UV spectroscopic measurements and in the presence of MMA the quantum yields of the initiator decomposition were detected to be 0.8. The polymerization of acrylic and methacrylic derivatives can be initiated by the R·, contrary to the situation with fumarates and maleates. The mechanism of MMA polymerization depends on the light intensity absorbed by the initiators. At high intensities the combination of primary and polymer radicals terminates the chain reaction. This follows from the measured monomer exponent of α = 2, the light intensity exponent of β = 0,2 and the number of thiocarbonyl end groups of 2 in the polymers isolated. Contrary to this, in the low intensity region the experimental data obey the ideal kinetic equation. Kinetic modelling gives evidence for an interaction of the monomer with the cage radicals. 相似文献
In the attempt to reduce surface free energy of silica to improve interaction of silica with silver, silica was doped by different amounts of low surface energy lanthanum, La_2O_3, through impregnation. The doped and undoped silica were used as supports for preparation of Na/Ag/Mo/La_2O_3-SiO_2 catalysts. Catalytic performances of the catalysts were evaluated in direct epoxidation of propylene(DPO) using molecular oxygen under atmospheric pressure and without adding hydrogen. Adding 5 wt%La to the Na/Ag/Mo/SiO_2 catalyst improves both the catalysts electivity in DPO and its stability over 20h of time-on-stream.The characterization results show that La_2O_3 species interact strongly with silver particles on the silica surface which result in significant improvement in the dispersion profile of silver and marked decrease in the size of silver nanoparticles(AgNPs). The estimated mean diameter of AgNPs is ca. 4.0 nm in Na/Ag/Mo/5 wt%La_2O_3-SiO_2, which is smaller than that(53.9 nm) found in Na/Ag/SiO_2. The presence of subnanometer AgNPs on Ag/La_2O_3-SiO_2 prior addition of MoO_3 and NaCl to the sample can enhance the mutual electronic synergism between Ag, MoO_3 and Na for selective production of propylene oxide. 相似文献
The stratified squamous ruminal epithelium is the main site for absorption of key nutrients (e.g., short-chain fatty acids; SCFA) and electrolytes (e.g., sodium and magnesium). The absorptive function has to be highly selective to prevent simultaneous entry of microbes and toxins from the rumen into the blood. As such, epithelial absorption is primarily transcellular, whereas the paracellular pathway appears rather tightly sealed. A network of tight junction (claudin-1, claudin-4, and occludin) and tight junction-associated proteins (e.g., zonula occludens) accomplishes the latter. When microbial fermentation activity is high such as with highly fermentable diets, rumen epithelial functions are often challenged by acidity, high osmolarity, toxins (e.g., endotoxin and histamine), and immune mediators (inflammatory mediators and cytokines) released during local and systemic inflammation. Epithelial damage by low pH in combination with high luminal SCFA concentrations is not immediately reversible and may initially aggravate upon return to physiological pH. In contrast, barrier opening upon hyperosmolarity is acutely transient. The initial insults set by luminal acidity and SCFA and the increasing concentrations of microbial-associated molecular patterns such as lipopolysaccharides are key factors that trigger inflammation not only in the rumen but also in the hindgut (cecum and colon), which reach out to the liver and other organs, causing systemic inflammation. Low feed intake during parturition, transportation, heat stress, or disease is the second most relevant challenge for the ruminal epithelial barrier. The barrier opening is usually only transient and quickly restored upon refeeding. Due to a rapid, dose-dependent, and prolonged decrease in absorption capacity for SCFA, however, any feed restriction increases the odds for postrestriction subacute ruminal acidosis. Inflammation due to acidosis can be alleviated by supplemental thiamine, yeasts, and plant bioactive (phytogenic) compounds. Butyrate is used in weaning calves to support ruminal barrier development; however, excess butyrate may promote hyperkeratosis, parakeratosis, and epithelial injury in the fully developed rumen of adult cows. Further research is needed to enhance the understanding of the various factors that counteract barrier impairment and help barrier restoration during acidogenic feeding, especially when concurring with unavoidable periods of feed restriction. 相似文献

Lithium fluoride (LiF) doped with proper activators is a highly sensitive phosphor commonly used for radiation dosimetry using thermoluminescence (TL) technique. Nanorods of this material activated with Cu, Mg and P as single dopants are synthesized in our laboratory and exposed to gamma-rays for their thermoluminescence (TL) properties. The induced TL glow curves of the Cu, Mg and P doped samples are similar with a single peak at 410 K. Copper doped sample is found to be the most sensitive sample with TL intensity around 65, 7 and 8 times of those of LiF:Mg, LiF:P and LiF:Mg,Cu,P, respectively, indicating that Cu is the luminescence center in the host of LiF nanorods, while Mg and P act as TL quencher particularly when used as codopants. These observations on the nanostructured form of LiF doped with these activators are entirely different from those of the widely studied LiF:Mg,Cu,P and LiF:Mg,Ti single crystals. The nanorods of LiF:Cu might be used for heavy doses measurement as they are sensitive to gamma-rays and have a linear TL response curve in a long span of exposures. 相似文献
