Branched nanostructures are of great interest because of their promising optical and electronic properties. For successful and reliable integration in applications such as photovoltaic devices, the thermal stability of the nanostructures is of major importance. Here the different domains (CdSe cores, CdS pods) of the heterogeneous octapods are shown to have different thermal stabilities, and heating is shown to induce specific shape changes. The octapods are heated from room temperature to 700 °C, and investigated using (analytical and tomographic) transmission electron microscopy (TEM). At low annealing temperatures, pure Cd segregates in droplets at the outside of the octapods, indicating non-stochiometric composition of the octapods. Furthermore, the tips of the pods lose their faceting and become rounded. Further heating to temperatures just below the sublimation temperature induces growth of the zinc blende core at the expense of the wurtzite pods. At higher temperatures, (500-700 °C), sublimation of the octapods is observed in real time in the TEM. Three-dimensional tomographic reconstructions reveal that the four pods pointing into the vacuum have a lower thermal stability than the four pods that are in contact with the support.  相似文献

Kapton polyimde is extensively used in solar arrays, spacecraft thermal blankets, and space inflatable structures. Upon exposure to atomic oxygen in low Earth orbit (LEO), Kapton is severely eroded. An effective approach to prevent this erosion is to incorporate polyhedral oligomeric silsesquioxane (POSS) into the polyimide matrix by copolymerizing POSS monomers with the polyimide precursor. The copolymerization of POSS provides Si and O in the polymer matrix on the nano level. During exposure of POSS polyimide to atomic oxygen, organic material is degraded, and a silica passivation layer is formed. This silica layer protects the underlying polymer from further degradation. Laboratory and space-flight experiments have shown that POSS polyimides are highly resistant to atomic-oxygen attack, with erosion yields that may be as little as 1% those of Kapton. The results of all the studies indicate that POSS polyimide would be a space-survivable replacement for Kapton on spacecraft that operate in the LEO environment.  相似文献

The thermophilic bacilli, such as Anoxybacillus flavithermus and Geobacillus spp., are an important group of contaminants in the dairy industry. Although these bacilli are generally not pathogenic, their presence in dairy products is an indicator of poor hygiene and high numbers are unacceptable to customers. In addition, their growth may result in milk product defects caused by the production of acids or enzymes, potentially leading to off-flavours. Dairy thermophiles are usually selected for by the conditions during dairy manufacture. These bacteria are able to grow in sections of dairy manufacturing plants where temperatures reach 40-65 °C. Furthermore, because they are spore formers, they are difficult to eliminate. In addition, they exhibit a wide temperature growth range, exhibit a fast growth rate (generation time of approximately 15-20 min) and tend to readily form biofilms. Many strategies have been tested to remove, prevent and/or delay the formation of thermophilic bacilli biofilms in dairy manufacture, but with limited success. This is, in part, because little is known about the structure and composition of thermophilic bacilli biofilms in general and, more specifically, in milk processing environments. Therefore, new cleaning regimes often do not target the problem optimally. A greater understanding of the structure of thermophilic biofilms within the context of the milk processing environment and their link with spore formation is needed to develop better control measures. This review discusses the characteristics and food spoilage potential, enumeration and identification methods for the thermophilic bacilli, as well as their importance to dairy manufacture, with an emphasis on biofilm development and spore formation.  相似文献

Polycyclic aromatic hydrocarbon (PAH) air concentrations measured over the period 1992-2000 at the Canadian High Arctic station of Alert were subject to time-series analysis using dynamic harmonic regression (DHR). For most of the PAHs, the DHR model fit to the observed data was good, with DHR capable of interpolating over missing data points during periods when air concentrations were below detection limits. As expected, DHR identified seasonal increases in PAH air concentrations. However, it has also identified additional, subtler "seasonal" patterns as a series of harmonics with varying periodicity. For example, a regular summer high in air concentrations was apparent for many PAHs, particularly the lower molecular weight (two- to three-ringed) compounds, which may be attributed to summertime regional combustion events such as forestfires and/or revolatilization from surfaces (e.g., soil and oceans, as well as arctic surfaces). Comparison of wintertime PAH concentrations (where sigmaPAH ranged from 260 to 516 pg m(-3)) with an earlier arctic study did not reveal a reduction in PAH levels. However, removal of the seasonal components by DHR revealed a declining trend in PAH concentrations over the 1992-2000 period. For many lighter PAHs, this was typified by a linear decrease over the whole time series, although, for the higher molecular weight PAHs, a marked reduction was apparent in the first few years of sampling followed by a leveling off in concentrations by the mid/late-1990s. This behavior is similar to reported trends of other air pollutants in the Arctic, may be attributed to the decline in Soviet industry during the early 1990s, and has implications regarding the major PAH sources affecting the Arctic.  相似文献

Breeders are increasingly interested in improving the machine milkability of Sardinian dairy sheep by selection for udder morphology. Nine-point linear scales were developed to appraise teat placement, degree of suspension of the udder, udder depth, and degree of separation of the 2 halves. Repeatabilities within and across lactation were estimated on an experimental flock. Ewes were scored at least 3 times a year from 1999 to 2003. Within-lactation repeatabilities were greater than 0.70 for all linear traits, whereas across-lactation repeatabilities ranged from 0.59 to 0.66. The first linear combination of basic traits, obtained by principal component analysis, was highly correlated with teat placement, degree of suspension of the udder, and udder depth and showed an across-lactation repeatability of 0.76. These results indicate that an accurate evaluation of animals is possible by a single, early lifetime score. Genetic parameters of linear udder traits were estimated using a REML method applied to a sire model. Data were selected from 76,984 scores of Sardinian yearling ewes collected by 31 classifiers from 1999 to 2004. Two models were compared, one fitting the contemporary group effect as fixed and the other as random. Heritabilities of udder traits ranged from 0.19 to 0.31. The model with the random contemporary group effect produced slightly higher heritabilities and higher correlations between the sires’ estimated breeding values and the daughters’ average scores. As a whole, the genetic correlations between udder traits were favorable, indicating that selection for one trait will produce a positive evolution of the overall udder conformation. In particular, the degree of suspension of the udder was highly correlated with udder depth (0.82). Genetic correlations with milk yield were unfavorable but generally low, with the exception of udder depth (−0.48). Genetic trends were estimated using an animal model. Only udder depth showed a negative constant genetic trend. Overall results indicated that genetic improvement of the udder morphology of Sardinian ewes is feasible, with major emphasis on teat placement and degree of udder suspension, traits showing the highest heritabilities and low unfavorable genetic correlations with milk yield.  相似文献

Electrochemical oxidation of catechols (1a-d) has been studied in the presence of N,N-dimethylethylendiamine (3) as a nucleophile in aqueous solutions, using cyclic voltammetry, constant-current coulometry and controlled-potential coulometry. The results indicate that the quinones derived from catechols (2a-d) participate in Michael addition reactions with N,N′-dimethylethylendiamine (3) via the ECECE mechanism to form the corresponding quinoxalinedione derivatives (6a-c).  相似文献

Response surface methodology (RSM) was employed to investigate variations in powder characteristics with respect to spray drying operating parameters including both feed rates (L min?1) and inlet temperatures (°C). Inlet temperatures around 180 °C provided the lowest values for moisture. Powder recovery was significantly affected (P < 0.10) by inlet air temperature and feed rate, where a raise in inlet temperature and feed rate resulted in higher powder recovery. No significant difference (P > 0.05) was observed for water activity, solubility and hygroscopicity between treatments. Regarding oil retention, the results showed a significant (P < 0.05) interaction between the two studied factors. A tendency for higher values of oil retention was observed when using combinations of high inlet temperatures/low feed rates and low inlet temperatures/high feed rates. Particle size distribution averaged 2.0, 8.1 and 18.3 μm for D10, D50 and D90, respectively. The morphology of particles showed no cracks in most capsules. The results indicate that high temperature (185 °C) and moderated feed rate (0.63 L min?1) are the best spray drying conditions.  相似文献
