This study investigated the effect of solubility of amphiphilic compounds of acidic crude oil in water on the surface and interfacial tension (IFT) with NaCl, MgCl2, CaCl2, and Na2SO4 salts. Accordingly, distilled water, along with the salts mentioned in zero ionic strength up to 2 mol were put in contact with crude oil to become saturated with amphiphilic compounds. The effects of these compounds were investigated on the properties of contact water by pH, total organic carbon (TOC), FTIR (Fourier transform infrared spectroscopy), water-air surface tension (ST), and water-n-decane IFT tests. The results showed that some of the organic components of crude oil, especially acidic and basic compounds, are present or soluble in water, which have a significant effect on reducing the surface and IFT. The IFT reduction of water-n-decane was greater than the water-air ST system. Also, the observations showed that for both NaCl and Na2SO4 salt water, with increasing ionic strength of water, there was an optimum salinity within the range of 0.1-0.25 mol/L for both salts with the amount of surface and IFT minimized at this point. In the other two salts, this point was delayed upon elevation of ionic strength and was observed at high salinity. In this case, divalent cations reduce tension rate compared to monovalent cations. Due to solubility of acidic and basic groups in water, pH of salt water illustrates an acidic trend. Results of the FTIR test confirmed solubility of these compounds as well.  相似文献

Oxygen enrichment of the combustion air in pulverised coal combustion for power plant is seen as a possible retrofit measure to improve CO2 scrubbing and capture. This technique produces a reduced volume of flue gas with higher CO2 concentration than normal air combustion that will contributes to the enhancement of amine scrubbing plant efficiencies. We report in this article the results of a study at the small pilot scale into the effect of these combustion modifications on the formation of NOx and associated carbon burnout changes. Experiments were performed using a Russian coal, typical of that used in some UK power stations with shea meal and Pakistani cotton stalk as biomass fuels co-fired at a fraction of 15%th. The down-fired pulverised coal combustor was operated at 20 kWth under air-staged conditions for NOx control and the secondary and over-fire air flows were both enriched by up to 79% (100% O2) for a range of splits giving a 35% overall O2 concentration for full enrichment. When the same enrichment process was applied to biomass/coal combustion different behaviour was observed with respect to NOx formation. We have shown that oxygen enrichment can achieve benefits of improved carbon burnout with a positive impact on NOx emissions over and above the primary aim of increasing CO2 concentration in the flue gas for enhanced capture efficiencies. With all other conditions of overall stoichiometry, OFA levels and O2 enrichment levels remaining the same, NOx levels at 22% OFA initially increased over the range of secondary air enrichment, particularly for shea meal/coal co-firing. At 31% OFA the trends were to lower NOx at high enrichment levels. However, co-firing with shea meal initially showed an increase in NOx emission at lower levels of enrichment (up to 40% O2) followed by overall lower NOx emissions at 100% O2 in the secondary air. The results show that NOx emissions can either increase or decrease depending on the operating conditions. The differences in behaviour are attributed, not only to the effects of enrichment on the stoichiometry of the near-burner zone, but also on the flame dynamics and intensity of combustion related to the associated reductions in gas velocity and swirl intensity by the transition from air to pure O2 in the secondary oxidant stream.  相似文献

The family Cactaceae is the diversified group of angiosperm plants whose pollen statistics has been used for taxonomic identification. In this article, we present the pollen morphology of eight species belong to seven taxonomically complex genera of Cactaceae including Astrophytum, Cylindropuntia, Echinocereus, Echinopsis, Mammillaria, Opuntia, and Thelocactus using light and scanning electron microscopy. The pollen grains were acetolyzed, measured, described, and electron photomicrographs were taken. Cactaceae can be characterized by presenting different palynomorphological features including pollen type, sculpturing, polar and equatorial diameter, aperture orientation, exine thickness, P/E ratio, and echini features. Four types of pollen shapes, that is, prolate spheroidal (three species), subprolate (two species), prolate (two species), and oblate spheroidal in Echinocereus reichenbachii were observed. The polar and equatorial diameter observed maximum in O. ficus indica 116.95 and 112.27 μm while minimum in M. compressa 38.42 and 21.05 μm. Pollen of two types, tricolpate in members of subfamily Cactioideae and pantoporate in the Opuntioideae were examined. The fertility percentage has been observed maximum in Opuntia macrocentra (83.84%) and minimum in Opuntia ficus‐indica (57.89%). Exine sculpturing showing great variations such as granulate, reticulate, granulate perforate and micro‐echinate foveolate ornamentation was examined only in Echinopsis eyriesii. A key to species, based on pollen micromorphological attributes, has been constructed for correct identification of complex cactus species.  相似文献

Abstract: The Precast Concrete Industry (PCI) is one of the major contributors to the national economy and can be categorized as labor‐intensive industry. It is currently experiencing shortcomings in terms of delivery products at a competitive cost and time. This is mainly due to the inefficiencies associate with planning and scheduling of skilled operators within crew configurations. This article presents a new strategy for efficient allocation of crews of workers in the precast concrete industry using Genetic Algorithms‐based simulation modeling. The aim of this study is to develop a crew allocation system that can efficiently allocate possible crews of workers to precast concrete labor‐intensive repetitive processes. Genetic algorithms (GAs) have been developed to solve this type of problem. Process mapping methodologies were used to identify and document the processes involved in producing precast components. Then process simulation was used to model and simulate all these processes and GAs were tailored to be embedded with the simulation model for a better search of promising solutions. GA operators were designed to suit this type of allocation problem. “Class Interval” selection strategy was developed to give a greater opportunity for the promising chromosomes to be chosen for further investigation. Dynamic crossover and mutation operators were developed to add more randomness to the search mechanism. The results showed that adopting different combinations of crews of workers had a substantial impact on reducing the process throughput time, minimizing resources cost, and achieving the required operatives utilization.  相似文献

We address a pre-disaster planning problem that seeks to strengthen a highway network whose links are subject to random failures due to a disaster. Each link may be either operational or non-functional after the disaster. The link failure probabilities are assumed to be known a priori, and investment decreases the likelihood of failure. The planning problem seeks connectivity for first responders between various origin–destination (O–D) pairs and hence focuses on uncapacitated road conditions. The decision-maker's goal is to select the links to invest in under a limited budget with the objective of maximizing the post-disaster connectivity and minimizing traversal costs between the origin and destination nodes. The problem is modeled as a two-stage stochastic program in which the investment decisions in the first stage alter the survival probabilities of the corresponding links. We restructure the objective function into a monotonic non-increasing multilinear function and show that using the first order terms of this function leads to a knapsack problem whose solution is a local optimum to the original problem. Numerical experiments on real-world data related to strengthening Istanbul's urban highway system against earthquake risk illustrate the tractability of the method and provide practical insights for decision-makers.  相似文献

Abstract

Water is a finite resource, and with the considerable upsurge in population, urbanization, and industrialization, it is also becoming an increasingly scarce resource. Many countries in the world rely on river waters, and many of those rivers are shared by two or more countries. Dams on those rivers have been a major source of tensions, disputes, and, in some cases, even conflict between riparian countries because dams could result in massive diversion of river flows. Those developments have, inter alia, highlighted the relevance and importance of the principles of international water law, as reflected in the United Nations Convention on the Law of the Non-Navigational Uses of International Watercourses. The World Commission on Dams has also underscored the importance of, and elaborated on, those principles with regard to dams on shared rivers. This article discusses and analyzes the recommendations of the Commission in this area, and compares them with the principles of international water law as enunciated in the United Nations Convention  相似文献

A profile of respiratory complications has been associated with the onset and development of obesity in humans. Similar phenotypes have been routinely demonstrated in genetic animal models of obesity such as the ob mouse (C57BL/6J-Lepob). The objective of the present study was to test the hypothesis that a constellation of respiratory complications are attenuated with leptin (i.e., protein product of the ob gene) replacement. Daily leptin administration during a 6-wk period was conducted to control body weight of mutant ob mice similar to genotypic control groups. During the treatment period, repeated baseline ventilatory measurements were assessed by using whole body plethysmography while quasistatic pressure-volume curves were performed to further explore the role of leptin in improving lung mechanics. Diaphragmatic myosin heavy chain (MHC) isoform phenotype was examined to determine proportional changes in MHC composition. In room air, breathing frequency and minute ventilation were significantly (P < 0.01) different among ob treatment groups, suggesting that leptin opposed the development of a rapid breathing pattern observed in vehicle-treated ob mice. Quasistatic deflation curves indicated that the lung volume of leptin-treated ob mice was significantly (P < 0.05) greater relative to vehicle-treated ob mice at airway pressures between 0 and 30 cmH2O. Diaphragm MHC composition of leptin-treated ob mice was restored significantly (P < 0.05) to resemble the control phenotype. In this genetic mouse model of obesity, the results suggested that respiratory complications associated with the obese phenotype, including rapid breathing pattern at baseline, diminished lung compliance, and abnormal respiratory muscle adaptations, are attenuated with prolonged leptin treatment.  相似文献
